There was a radio station in CA and during the 80's they played a lot of her music... But I don't think it passed any farther into the states then those on the east/west coast.
i can not stand todays music it is absolute shite one direction, wanted ,buble xfactor all the songs sound the same and are about the same thing im 30 this year so was a small kid in the eightys but i remember songs like this and you never get bored of them todays songs make me cringe all commercial no heart and theres no characters anymore either like freddy mercury billy idol etc 90s did some good songs in the early years mid 90s onwards wow what the hell went wrong there boyzone, spice girls
@MsCHAMPAGNEcharlie I like them both, but the big difference in this case is that Adele was able to make the trans-oceanic jump and become very, very successful here in the States too. Alison was not able to do that, and that is quite unfortunate. When I lived in Germany the local radio stations would play Alison's music many times during the day, and that's how I came to appreciate her. Most people here in the States don't have a clue of who she is, and that's a shame.
@0JailBreak0 I completely agree, but I have to make an exception in Adele's case. She is really very talented, and she has earned her success. However, there's trash like the Black Eyed Peas, Justin Bieber, and most of the hip-hop/rap crap out there that does fall under the category you're talking about.
@znyggo What about Windmills of your mind (2004 voices for Darfur) that is so beautiful or her life version of Cry me a river, to be found here on YT. Sure, everyone has its favourite songs, but she has so many great songs, I would not know wich one to choose for my favourite......
I am American (and straight) and I really loved her then and love her now! The song Invisible made like top 20 here and put her on my radar......but the group Yaz (Yazoo) had some success here in the 80's as well!
Listening to her music now, I can say I enjoy it. But back in the 80s when Alf was released, I struggled to take a liking to it. Tastes change! Alison has a powerful, no-nonsense voice. For some reason, I appreciate it more now, all those years later.
Many in the gay circles and clubs here in the US followed her music back in the 80s and I loved it!
As she said in a recent interview, she cut way back on the music work due to raising her 3 children, so maybe no time for keeping up a presence across the pond.
yeh i get that but i thought a great song would be at least mildly successful in USA. so they really snub foreigners ?? some have been successful tho !
can any music industry experts explain why so many huge bands and performers fail in the USA when they have much better material than a lot of Yank stuff ???
just some examples, Alison, Kylie Minogue (huge in uk and europe but failed in usa) and split enz ???
@wildpanthera Just in general, I think it's a certain insularity coupled with a general underappreciation of things "foreign" that account for it. A big generalization, but there's some truth to it.
@AdlerChalk ~ Not 18 years since this song was a hit but on the day I wrote the comment was the Anniversay of.. 18 years that my Angel, Robby & I had been together...
So my answer was ...Yes to "Is This Love"...
You're never getting older only Wiser is the way I like to look @ it...

@vinceeverett2010 Can you compare the 80's with today?? There is no comparison.
90% of the new artists today will not be known, or survive without Internet and Youtube.
In the 80's artists only count on radio and they own quality. Nothing else... today you see artists without any quality have huge success.
