@bicepius ummm.....hello-o.....movie about the Revolutionary War here....during this era the British WERE nasty and evil tyrants that deserved the butt-kicking us Americans gave them....TWICE....so I find it actually quite realistic of Hollywood to portray the British as evil....seems to me like you labor under rather lackluster lessons in history
@josamen Read a history book, france faught most if not all your battles for you. You were the ones who portrayed your king. The british pulled out becuase they were fighting france, spain and russia at the same time, the british burnt down the whitehouse as they pulled back. The british could of deployed a scorched earth policy and butcher everybody but becuase you were our brethren it wasnt in our nature to be barbarians like this film portrays the British to be.
@bicepius don't know what history books you've been readin' there fella...probably ones written by irrational anti-liberty revisionist historians......we revolted because the king betrayed us....people have a natural right to taxation with representation...a natural right denied by the monarchy you apparently love so much....and so we had allies that helped us...so what? Russia was not one of them though....the Dutch Republic was though
One Tarleton "crime": Battle of Waxhaw, 29th May 1780,Tarleton with 150 horsemen attacked ca. 350 Virginia Continentals under Abraham Buford. The net result was 5 killed and 12 wounded Loyalists but 113 dead Patriots and 203 captured. 150 of them badly wounded. American and Loyalist sources agree that Tarleton’s horse was shot after Buford showed the white flag. That his men, who thougt the leader shot dead under a flag of truth, did not give easy quarter is hardly surprising.
Tavington is not based on Tarleton, just on the grotesque "Patriotic" propaganda There are many stories of Tarleton behaving uncivil in burning houses but none can be proofed. There is Andrew Jackson who wrote about Tarleton’s conduct at Monticello,Tarleton gave strict orders to Captain McLeod to suffer nothing to be injured. If the home of the principal author of the declaration of Independence was protected by Tarleton we can hardly believe the stories of the oger Tarleton
@TheGroundedAviator "Good" is a big word. I'm sure that he was not the oger of patriot's propaganda. The first victim in war is truth. He was hated because he won in many actions, his force was much more mobile than the average redcoat one. So he was a problem for the enemy. That "some" of the stuff is wrong is a nice understatement. Not one of his alleged war crimes is proofed. He (or his unit) killed many "rebels" in action, but took prisoners if they surrendered. And that's a soldiers job.
@crematio True, I'm not the best with words. He wa a professional them who fought the same way. Your right about the truth thing, the danger of patriotism for you.
I ment some in the sense that his crims were, not his combat skills that they would have menturned as well, like I said I'm bad with words. I agree with you all the way.
"Before this war is over, im going to kill you". Love Mel's expression when he says this, he says it so simply, but you can hear the promise and threat in his voice, classic, i would shit myself if i ever met him xD
Tavington's counter part Officially was named Banastre Tarelton who was 26 years old and just as ruthless in the real war, he at the Battle of Camden actually led a dragoon raid on the American forces fleeeing the battle field and did not give quarter to any of them begging for it. He was also known as Bloody Tarleton.
Peter Woodward was brilliant in this too....I remember him as Galen in the Babylon 5 spin-off series "Crusade"

And that my friends, is really the birth of Lucius Malfoy. I shouldn't love it as much as I do.
