@wecamewithbroken125 The whole financing surrounding college is a ripoff indeed, especially all the money that taxpayers are forced to pay to support football teams, useless degrees in English and Ethnic Studies, grossly overpaid college presidents, etc.
@DontGoToCollege I cannot agree more. Except for engineering or other professional degrees (such as nursing or medical degrees), the rest of the programs such as sociology, literature, and philosophy are all trash. It's a shame that our tax dollars are used to support these programs.
Personally, I attended comm. college for 1 1/2 years for Criminal Justice. When I got out, I taught myself how to program Programmable Logic Controls for automated machinery and now I make 4x the amount I would have as a police officer with a degree. I don't underestimate the value of an education... just the value of that piece of paper that says I have one. Want an education? Go to amazon.com, rab some books, and give yourself one!

I'm a history major at UCLA- I want to be an educator myself- US History. I'd say 90 percent of the History majors I see here at UCLA are planning on going to law school- that seems to be the case with a lot of colleges, so I don't think its a useless major if you're going to college to make lots of money- average UCLA law school graduate makes $130,000 per year. I came to college to learn- if there aren't any jobs in education when I'm finished I'll join the Air Force or the Navy.
@Doriamos I just have to say that it's terrible that our nation has brought people to a desperate point that joining the military is the only "secure" option available. If the country was not led into this economic situation, I'm very sure little to no people would be joining the military right now. That's something to think about?
@shaostyle you're probably right about that, every branch of the military is overmanned now because of the recession. The military pays back a lot of student loan debt as well- up to $65,000 believe it or not. But I've always wanted to experience the military for myself, seems like a good time to do it. Looks like my worthless college degree could get me officer candidacy, with so many high school grads going in as enlisted because of the economy
@Doriamos As long as its something you truly are passionate about it's all good. I would still suggest you talking to people that are already enlisted or have returned from the military and see if it's really for you! Good luck
@Doriamos im in the army i been to iraq n afghanistan go to the air force or navy where it is safer at least they dont brain wash you like the army and making you believe every one is your enemy(nations) like libiya and shyt its nothing but a bunch of high degree masons that want more for them selves than any one else, they want obedience they demoted me 3 times just because i didnt follow stupid orders to basically kill myself lol doin silly shyt that could get you killed i do what i want!!!!
With all the jobs being outsourced, out of this country and with us importing literally millions of guest workers into this country every year on non-immigrant visa programs like H1B, L1, TN etc, etc visa programs is it any wonder that college degrees are rapidly becoming almost virtually worthless today? Why should companies hire a newly minted American graduate with a college degree when they can hire someone in India or China for 1/10th the price they would pay an American?
he is right. Ivanka Trump, daugther of billionaire Donald only has a BA Degree.
She was born here, speaks english perfectly and had all resources. She cited that she is too busy to go to college so she can run businesses.

Using one article from Forbes magazine doesn't prove anything or lend weight to your pre-concieved conclusion that colleges suck. Easy and meaningless is the eye and ear of the beholder.
For someone who decries the elitism and arrogance of college graduates, you hypocitically evince a spirit of arrogance in putting down college majors you find inferior.
Just because I don't mention every possible aspect of a debate in a short video does not mean I'm not cognizant of it.
Instead of rationally debating the topics in the video, you bring up things that are not mentioned in the video or you just say insulting things to me.
How hard is it for you to realize that every aspect of a debate cannot be mentioned in a brief video?
I have no intention of playing games with you. Nor do I think I have anything to lose.
1) Why is that a valid argument? What about the points in the Forbes article? Why won't you address them?

1) I don't have the FORBES article in front of me so therefore I cannot waste time criticizing it. Also, I attacked the fact that you take one article or one set of statistics and use that as proof positive of your point. That's like a lawyer using one eyewitness to a crime in court-a weak case.

No, you are not attacking the content because you have not commented on the content. You are attacking the "presentation" of the video by attacking the presenter of the video.
1) You can criticize the parts of the article that I quoted on the video. You don't have to have the article in front of you.
But you don't. Instead you say that I don't provide enough proof.
First of all, this is not a court of law. It's a discussion forum for a short video.
You have created a straw man by taking on parents and students who pay and go to college.
You have stated that they have been brainwashed by society.
However, you do not address the facts-which I have repeated consistently-that colleges raise tuition and fees every year thus causing student debt to spiral out of control.
Also, that employers demand BA or BS degrees for numerous jobs.
These are facts. I talk about not only what isn't in the video but what is.
Good point, Sallie Mae is not a truly private business. Since they depend on the force of government, fascist is a better word. Thanks for your comment.
Society tells us that student loan debt is "good debt". Quite the contrary, student loans are actually the worst kind of debt you can ever get yourself into because you cannot have them erased by filing for bankruptcy.
Honestly, if it weren't for the fact that I want to go to school for Dental Hygiene, I would not even be considering college. After I receive my A.A.S. I'm pretty sure I will not be going back for my bachelors in anything. I get people asking me, "Well, why not continue on to become a dentist?" No. No way. Too expensive and I don't have that kind of time.
I know someone that was making good money as a server in an upscale restaurant and decided to forsake her degree because of it. Plus she loved her job and wasn't sure if a degree would give her opportunities in another field.
I happened to see your videos while looking for a video on Sallie Mae. I have a master's, but can't find a job. Last year my employer got rid of college grads because they were too expensive. I can't find jobs in my field, or I'm being told I am under/overqualified and rejected. I'm not a recent grad. Not to mention being harassed by Sallie Mae to pay when I can't. My cousins never went to college and have better jobs than I'm finding. I wish I never attended college.
hmmm..... i once had a complaint on a teacher in my 5th year, and most students agreed with me, but the authorities distorted my draft, did not give me the fairness of judgment, and when i want to appeal saying the school procedures to (Provost) they admit there was fault but state its not severe enough for hearing. I think the best topic would be some sort of complaints students have. Try to find people, interview them, or report about it. But be careful schools will threaten by lawsuits.
guys check this out. i have a 45 year old friend. who claims to be a millionaire, lives with his mom and ASKS ME for money. Im 24, almost. and he ALWAYS would ask me every single day if i'm going back to school! he ain't my father lol!! he said i should take a painting class, maybe meet some girls, do some networking. said it will be good for me. What???? he is so close minded. I'm running a successful business, I'm not interested in hanging at the top of the hill with 18 year olds!
Taking classes to meet women is a horrible idea! You'll go in not caring about the activity you're doing and more than likely come off as anxious and needy to the women in the class.
I know it's off topic, but when you go looking for something specific in life that you think will complete you or make everything all better you usually never find what you're looking for!
And the most annoying thing is this. I make money, my friends who graduated all know i make more than them. and every single WEEK they still ask me like a parrot, are you going back to school? do you have a back up plan? You can meet GIRLS in school! it keeps you busy! It's like people just SHUT UP and mind your own business. even my 23 year old friend doesn't have a degree but says it's ok cuz he takes ONE class at community college. it's like what is this??
You make them insecure because you are successful. You are breaking the "rules" for success that the government schools have instilled in them. I got a video planned about how college is a religion to most people.
If you want to be successful at meeting women get VERY comfortable with yourself and then leave the house and do things you enjoy doing. MOST IMPORTANTLY, Let go off the idea that you are "hunting for a women" and if you aren't a total loser you will eventually meet and talk to nice people and then you can possibly get something started with them. I am not offering this as advice to you JLeeMagnetic. I just wanted to state my opinion on that advice your 45 year old friend gave you.
You know what i think? college is set up too late. when your 18 or 20 your the most ambitious to run a business or do your thing. College should start at like age 15 in my opinion. 25 year olds in school it's like what for?? your an adult. College should just be for doctors and things like that. what's up with dance classes and all this bull shit? grown ups going back for a paint class to feel better about themselves. Once your 20, i think your too old unless your like a doctor or something.
Notice how many teachers/professors CAN NOT STAND people who are successful in the real world and made a good life for themselves without going to school.
Prime example : My 12th grade economics class, back in 2005. Teacher: " You'll find that when you go to college, your professors will be...(blah, blah, blah) If you aren't going to college...(long awkward pause)..." Well, there's noting wrong with that."(Last part in a very hesitant tone. I hope young students read and learn from my posts.
I agree there are a lot of people in academia who think they are better than others - simply because they are good memorizers! They equate memorizing with intelligence. Albert Einstein was not a good memorizer and was a high school dropout.
The only way they would ever make a lot of money is if they were on Jeopardy!
Awesome! and well stated! Maybe a language teacher could possibly go on "Wheel of Fortune" or "Lingo" and win! That's interesting, I never knew that about Einstein. That old 2xL toy robot told me Einstein was also a poor speller. Hearing what you've said above it wouldn't surprise me!
That's all school teaches you to do is memorize and "follow." You're effectively reduced to parroting off information that is fed to you via "experts." They then tell you that you're clever for regurgitating someone else's information.
@Shehasnomorals That is not what my college or high school experience was like at all. I still feel there is no way to get the knowledge that I have obtained then by talking with people that study these topics for a living. If you actually talk to the professor you will find that they don't mind discussing topics that you may disagree with. Maybe they are right, Maybe they are wrong. In the end you will have a better understanding by conversing with someone who has that deep knowledge.
I know dude. I have this aunt who doesn't know me well. and i make good money in business im 24. but she is a teacher and has no idea how i work my business. every YEAr she sees me she asks me if I'm going to go to college. It's SO annoying. It's like why would i go to college when I am doing well? I'm not spending 50 grand on that shit.
I knew I wasn't the only one who noticed this about teachers! My family was the same way...except the people pushing me into college never went but knew everything about how essential it was to my future! Confusing, huh? They think they are trying to help, but really if your family wanted to help you they'd accept and support you fully in what you are doing, unless you're shooting heroin or you're going to kill or hurt yourself or someone else. Have a good life and keep doing what makes u happy!
I lost about $5000 out of my own pocket as opposed to having student loans to pay back, like the kids I knew who had loans with interest to pay back. When I quit, I still had $13,000 left in the bank and my future wasn't screwed because I already secured myself financially. Doing what I did was awesome even though I had tons of adults telling me waiting a year to go to school would never work. The moral? If someone gives you their opinion and not facts,do what you think and feel is best for you.
Did you know that many people with a college degree are actually DISCRIMINATED AGAINST IN THE WORK WORLD because employers consider those people to be overrated because of their lack of real-world experience, and too expensive (and possibly too pretentious and difficult to manage) to take a chance on?
The so-called "elites" have finally succeeded in shaping society so mercilessly that there is absolutely no way to get a job now, unless you are liked by the right people in the right cliques, which is itself largely determined by your sociocultural demographic. It is a system of perfect inductance, where merit, the sacred pillar of any sustainable and humane society, has finally been informally demonized and outlawed.
You can start expecting mass riots and FEMA crackdowns soon.
I am surprised mobs of people haven't flooded the buildings of insurance companies and torched them to the ground. Insurance in the US is such garbage. That part about "starting to expect mass riots soon" brought that to mind. Another thing. I was talking to the librarian at my old middle school. She told me," Her friend's son graduated from HARVARD LAW SCHOOL" and couldn't find a job! Harvard is a pretty high up there school from what I understand.
I have a friend who's mom has a business degree and applied for a job at Sheetz. They wouldn't hire her because they would've had to pay her more than they wanted to BECAUSE SHE HAD A DEGREE! I've also heard that if you have a degree and apply for say a job in a grocery store or something else low level, most people won't hire you because they think you'll work there and leave as soon as something in your degree field opens up.
But don't let that fool you into thinking that they want you around for a long time as a valued employee -- they usually don't. But they want to have the total power to control and drop you on a whim, rather than your having options for yourself.
I've heard of Wal-Mart pulling crap on a lot of its employees, as I am sure a lot of other companies do. But what I've heard is when Wal-Mart wants to save money, what they sometimes do is start picking on the employees that have been their for 5 years or longer and are making about $12 an hour or more. They look for the stupidest smallest things to write the employee up for so they can legally fire them and hire someone new at $8.00 an hour. It proves just what you've stated above.
Collage was not made to help you get more money, it is a learning tool. A private education facility that gives you access to large amounts of material, teachers, peers and drunk collage girls.
If you don't understand this, then don't come onto Youtube - stammering and pausing acuardly in a stupid video with 0 entertainment value and 0 additional research.
"Oh, this guy in this one magazine says collage is a con, it must be true!"
I meant, let that be proof that living comfortably can be down WITHOUT going to college. My bad. Good luck to the kids who are struggling with to go to college or not to go. Don't let adults in your life pressure you. It easy for them to pressure you, because they won't get stuck with the bill in the end.
I am CURRENTLY in that situation you just stated... I went to a community college to complete my general education requirements and now I just applied and was accepted to a university to transfer. I still need about 3 more years and I just checked my Financial Aid Package and I have to take in at least $15,000.... and I still need 3 years!! I am a Business Administration major with option in Accounting. WHAT SHOULD I DO??
Let that be proof that living comfortably can be done with going to college. Also, my monthly bills are currently around $900. It usually all comes down to how you spend your money. You don't always have to make $19 an hour to live comfortably. It just takes confidence and a little good judgment. And also, if you want to go to college you don't have to go right after high school like a lot of people say. U have the REST OF YOUR LIFE...About 65 years if you live to the normal life expetancy.
I applaud you for being so straight forward with your answers. And anyone wondering if this is true... I have my car paid off and bought a house at 21 with an interest rate of %5.88. After I pay off a few more thousand, my monthly mortgage with TAXES INCLUDED will be $592. You could pay that on a Wal-Mart salary. And I didn't go to college. I just worked crappy jobs, lived with my parents for a while, and didn't piss my money away on stupid stuff.
Hey thanks! Looking back on my short life, I am only 22, going to work right out of high school was probably one of the best decisions I've ever made. I would like to mention, I did attend nursing school a year after I graduated High School. About two months into the program, I realized Nursing sucked and the classes, homework, and professors reminded me of why I wanted to get out of high school so bad! BUT I saved up money from working while in HS and after HS, so when I quit
Investors need as many kids to come out of college paying interest on student loans. You see we make money selling college degrees, not obtaining them. A college degree is nothing more than a traded commodity on the stock market.
Excellent analysis. You're right its nothing more than a "product" that is sold to the masses. Many people don't realize that they are living in a "legal fiction." Corporations/Institutions are now the modern-day feudal lords of what many believe is "reality."
i will say this though: Whenever I look through the help wanted sections most jobs require a bachelors.

Even though colleges advertise themselves as bastions of truth seeking, they spin bigger
lies than even Disneyland. You do not walk out of Disneyland thinking that you will
spend the rest of your life riding the tilt-a-whirl or hanging out with Mickey. You know it
is a fantasy getaway. College plays with much bigger stakes by creating a grand illusion
that is intended to last a lifetime.

As for the Forbes article, I don't need to put that down. I put down your methodology.

instead of calling sally may private can u call it lobbying or fascist? it's an insult to all private businesses. love your videos

ImNotYourFriend212 2 years ago
I know someone that was making good money as a server in an upscale restaurant and decided to forsake her degree because of it. Plus she loved her job and wasn't sure if a degree would give her opportunities in another field.
That's happening a lot.
Wytchfinde 2 years ago
Sallie Mae is not the enemy, the government is. They don't give loans to people who can't pay them back, that has to be Gov forced aka CRA.
deltapunk21 2 years ago
I happened to see your videos while looking for a video on Sallie Mae. I have a master's, but can't find a job. Last year my employer got rid of college grads because they were too expensive. I can't find jobs in my field, or I'm being told I am under/overqualified and rejected. I'm not a recent grad. Not to mention being harassed by Sallie Mae to pay when I can't. My cousins never went to college and have better jobs than I'm finding. I wish I never attended college.

So which majors have "the money"?
Students are conditioned to believe that any college degree means a million more dollars over a working lifetime.

hmmm..... i once had a complaint on a teacher in my 5th year, and most students agreed with me, but the authorities distorted my draft, did not give me the fairness of judgment, and when i want to appeal saying the school procedures to (Provost) they admit there was fault but state its not severe enough for hearing. I think the best topic would be some sort of complaints students have. Try to find people, interview them, or report about it. But be careful schools will threaten by lawsuits.
dan020350 2 years ago
guys check this out. i have a 45 year old friend. who claims to be a millionaire, lives with his mom and ASKS ME for money.
JLeeMagnetic 2 years ago
Taking classes to meet women is a horrible idea! You'll go in not caring about the activity you're doing and more than likely come off as anxious and needy to the women in the class.
I know it's off topic, but when you go looking for something specific in life that you think will complete you or make everything all better you usually never find what you're looking for!
thetrophyone 2 years ago 3
And the most annoying thing is this. I make money, my friends who graduated all know i make more than them. and every single WEEK they still ask me like a parrot, are you going back to school? do you have a back up plan? You can meet GIRLS in school! it keeps you busy! It's like people just SHUT UP and mind your own business. even my 23 year old friend doesn't have a degree but says it's ok cuz he takes ONE class at community college. it's like what is this??
JLeeMagnetic 2 years ago 2
You make them insecure because you are successful. You are breaking the "rules" for success that the government schools have instilled in them. I got a video planned about how college is a religion to most people.
DontGoToCollege 2 years ago
If you want to be successful at meeting women get VERY comfortable with yourself and then leave the house and do things you enjoy doing. MOST IMPORTANTLY, Let go off the idea that you are "hunting for a women" and if you aren't a total loser you will eventually meet and talk to nice people and then you can possibly get something started with them. I am not offering this as advice to you JLeeMagnetic. I just wanted to state my opinion on that advice your 45 year old friend gave you.
thetrophyone 2 years ago
You know what i think? college is set up too late. when your 18 or 20 your the most ambitious to run a business or do your thing. College should start at like age 15 in my opinion. 25 year olds in school it's like what for?? your an adult. College should just be for doctors and things like that. what's up with dance classes and all this bull shit? grown ups going back for a paint class to feel better about themselves. Once your 20, i think your too old unless your like a doctor or something.
JLeeMagnetic 2 years ago

DontGoToCollege 2 years ago
Awesome! and well stated! Maybe a language teacher could possibly go on "Wheel of Fortune" or "Lingo" and win! That's interesting, I never knew that about Einstein. That old 2xL toy robot told me Einstein was also a poor speller. Hearing what you've said above it wouldn't surprise me!
thetrophyone 2 years ago
@DontGoToCollege
That's all school teaches you to do is memorize and "follow." You're effectively reduced to parroting off information that is fed to you via "experts." They then tell you that you're clever for regurgitating someone else's information.
Shehasnomorals 1 year ago

JLeeMagnetic 2 years ago 3
I knew I wasn't the only one who noticed this about teachers! My family was the same way...except the people pushing me into college never went but knew everything about how essential it was to my future! Confusing, huh? They think they are trying to help, but really if your family wanted to help you they'd accept and support you fully in what you are doing, unless you're shooting heroin or you're going to kill or hurt yourself or someone else. Have a good life and keep doing what makes u happy!
thetrophyone 2 years ago
@thetrophyone
That's because the main goal of schools is standardization via indoctrination. Teachers had a huge hand in "dumbing down" the American public.
Shehasnomorals 1 year ago
I lost about $5000 out of my own pocket as opposed to having student loans to pay back, like the kids I knew who had loans with interest to pay back. When I quit, I still had $13,000 left in the bank and my future wasn't screwed because I already secured myself financially. Doing what I did was awesome even though I had tons of adults telling me waiting a year to go to school would never work. The moral? If someone gives you their opinion and not facts,do what you think and feel is best for you.
thetrophyone 2 years ago
...And it's even worse than that !
Did you know that many people with a college degree are actually DISCRIMINATED AGAINST IN THE WORK WORLD because employers consider those people to be overrated because of their lack of real-world experience, and too expensive (and possibly too pretentious and difficult to manage) to take a chance on?
TheLogicJunkie 2 years ago 2
I read an article years ago where Ph.d degree holders were not putting it on their resumes because they'd be passed over.
"In place of the bigotry of race has arisen a new bigotry of schooling." - George Gilder
DontGoToCollege 2 years ago
Yep.
TheLogicJunkie 2 years ago 3
I am surprised mobs of people haven't flooded the buildings of insurance companies and torched them to the ground. Insurance in the US is such garbage. That part about "starting to expect mass riots soon" brought that to mind. Another thing. I was talking to the librarian at my old middle school. She told me," Her friend's son graduated from HARVARD LAW SCHOOL" and couldn't find a job! Harvard is a pretty high up there school from what I understand.
thetrophyone 2 years ago
...And, speaking of George Gilder, I just got ahold of his old book "Microcosm" the other day.

I have a friend who's mom has a business degree and applied for a job at Sheetz. They wouldn't hire her because they would've had to pay her more than they wanted to BECAUSE SHE HAD A DEGREE! I've also heard that if you have a degree and apply for say a job in a grocery store or something else low level, most people won't hire you because they think you'll work there and leave as soon as something in your degree field opens up.
thetrophyone 2 years ago
YEP.
But don't let that fool you into thinking that they want you around for a long time as a valued employee -- they usually don't. But they want to have the total power to control and drop you on a whim, rather than your having options for yourself.
Life is a turd.
TheLogicJunkie 2 years ago

Fuck you, you're retarded
vagitoe 2 years ago
I don't know about "collage" but most people go to college with the idea that they will make more money.
Otherwise, why would people spend so much time and money when you can get the same information at a much lower cost?
If colleges were "private education facilities" that would be great. However, most colleges are public, taxpayer-funded facilities.
I suggest reading the entire article. It's not just "one guy" who says college is a con.
I apologize that I am not as eloquent as you.

No need to apologize. I agree with you completely, and so do countless others who got screwed.

I meant, let that be proof that living comfortably can be down WITHOUT going to college. My bad. Good luck to the kids who are struggling with to go to college or not to go. Don't let adults in your life pressure you. It easy for them to pressure you, because they won't get stuck with the bill in the end.
thetrophyone 2 years ago
I am CURRENTLY in that situation you just stated... I went to a community college to complete my general education requirements and now I just applied and was accepted to a university to transfer. I still need about 3 more years and I just checked my Financial Aid Package and I have to take in at least $15,000.... and I still need 3 years!! I am a Business Administration major with option in Accounting. WHAT SHOULD I DO??
lilgame34 2 years ago
I'm going to send you a message instead of posting a comment. Feel free to ask me anymore questions if anything else comes up.
thetrophyone 2 years ago
Let that be proof that living comfortably can be done with going to college. Also, my monthly bills are currently around $900. It usually all comes down to how you spend your money. You don't always have to make $19 an hour to live comfortably. It just takes confidence and a little good judgment. And also, if you want to go to college you don't have to go right after high school like a lot of people say. U have the REST OF YOUR LIFE...About 65 years if you live to the normal life expetancy.
thetrophyone 2 years ago 2
I applaud you for being so straight forward with your answers. And anyone wondering if this is true... I have my car paid off and bought a house at 21 with an interest rate of %5.88. After I pay off a few more thousand, my monthly mortgage with TAXES INCLUDED will be $592. You could pay that on a Wal-Mart salary. And I didn't go to college. I just worked crappy jobs, lived with my parents for a while, and didn't piss my money away on stupid stuff.
thetrophyone 2 years ago 2
You're way smarter than I was, and I went to Duke University. Big whoop there.
