There is no hope to offer new generation a decent music, because god is dead since ealry 90 and new genrations not have souls and soul is required to enjoy good music, movies and other form of good entertainent.
This song reminds me of a lot. The empty hours that fill the space where electrons and copper wire weave through the darkness of city streets, dimly lit with incandescent lights. Watching the cars and lights go by, looking out the window into midnight. It also reminds me of the movie Ghost in the Shell.
Listening to Kraftwerk is something special. Although I enjoy some of todays chart breakers, there is simply no comparison, listening to Kraftwerk feels like being touched by awesome ingenuity.
I couldn't remember the name of this, since my early teenage years till I am now 40 and still know the words.. Long live Kraftwerk, thanks for making the coolest music ever.
@Ograws When Lady Gaga will stop attempting to make music? That'll be when she run out of ideas of how to attract people's attention. After that i don't think people will remember her anymore. However you see Kraftwerk now... they are part of the music history itself.
Every note and sound is perfect. Like much better this version. Especially the broken english voice "The number you called is wrong - please call ein-formation". lol - why have they left this out in other versions?
Kraftwerk are known for pioneering synth-pop, among other EDM genres.
People say that synthpop is dead, but that kind of music absorbed itself into the mainstream pop world. All that stuff I said about mainstream music I don't care about. What I do care about is that Kraftwerk is very awesome band, period.
Synthpop is just commercially "dead", but there's a pretty huge underground scene. Especially here and in Germany the synth scene has a strong cult following and new music is being made.
You are however correct about the music being absorbed into the mainstream pop world.
When was the mainstream pop scene EVER innovative or groundbreaking? Often sounds heard in the underground and independent scene is heard YEARS before becoming popular enough to be played on radio. Nothing new.
3,985 views. That is completely unacceptable. These guys have been around longer than Miley Cyrus, Lady Gaga, and Justin Bieber(whatever the heck his name is which is stupid btw) COMBINED and they're getting more views than this video. Honestly that is just sad and fucked up. Kraftwerk are the first group to popularize electronic music and to put it simply. Younger generations are getting more fucked up to like them and not this. They need to change.
@Sylar482 Never mind the few views - I think it's because of the many versions of the song available on youtube (especially the video in which the Band mamber loock so overwhelming lovely und melancholy). I adore them!
@Sylar482 oh boy i hear you ... im 17 years old and i think im kinda the only one in my school for example who even knows kraftwerk ... stupid people ... fuck lady gaga ... kraftwerk are the gods of music !
I am so sad seeing they ommited this version from their latest 'Techno Pop' remaster in favour of two far more inferior versions of the song. I still cannot understand how on earth many people at the time considered 'Electric Cafe' a creative disappointment. On this album Kraftwerk reached their finest virtual creative peak. And what is left apart from four favourite severed heads floating in futuristic vacuum? This is the future. Listen to it. Still intact, still naive and fragile...
@Crijevo When you say the lastest 'Techno Pop' remastered, are you referring to the remaster of Electric Cafe that I understand came out last year? Was this version ever featured on Electric Cafe? I believe I heard this version on the radio a while ago and absolutely loded it, I love Kraftwerk so much.
@Lachlant1984 Yep, 'Techno Pop' now includes the single version of 'The Telephone Call' paired with 'House Phone' for new (and old) fans to enjoy. Personally I find this decision a bit off - as the original album version fits in with 'Electric Cafe' perfectly. Single version of 'The Telephone Call' sounds a bit rushed while 'House Phone' despite F. Kevorkian's gorgeous work is just an empty filler... I still love Kraftwerk so much as well :) cheers.
@Lachlant1984 ... oops. Sorry, I forgot to say - yes, this 8.04 version is the original album version of 'Electric Cafe'. It's a complete piece with stunning introduction, great simplistic lyric line addressing the problem of communication and the outro only Kraftwerk can come up with - leaving listeners in complete uncertainty :) the number you have reached had been disconnected. Amazing.
@Crijevo On another video I saw of this song I posted a comment asking if The Electric Cafe ever came out on CD, I understand The Electric Cafe came out in 1987 when people were just starting to adopt the CD format, and nobody told me for sure if TEC came out on CD at any point, I've only been hearing about Techno Pop as a CD. Does my question make sense? If I could I'd rather get TEC because it features the full version of Telephone Call as you say, but I'd get it on CD if possible.
@Crijevo I believe many feel " Cheated" like myself .If i had known earlier, i should had bought the UK Cd @ S$16 rather than the Remastered version. They are so mean that there is tracklisting on the cd that indicate the changes!!!
Absolutely agree on every word. EC is their best album and i just want to add that making an album like this after a time of so much new electronic music ,they still manage to reinvent the wheel once more, it´s just fantastic.
@Crijevo I am very surprised to hear that! I feel that this version is truly classic Kraftwerk! I'm glad I have the original CD of the album then! Kraftwerk to have a tendency to try and edit their own history, like the way they stubbornly refuse to ever release their first three albums on CD and pretty much pretend they don't exist
Soo good!

I remember when I bought the casette tape of this album in tower records back in the days. The clerk asked me, you listen to those kind of music?
roodyer 1 year ago
@roodyer
Annoying clerks is one of the reasons I started to buy all my music through mailorder, and later through the net.
It would be the same if some restaurant owner asked:"you eat that kind of food?" when you order something. A good way to loose customers.
