  • So when he dies, is that blue stuff coming out of the pit force energy, or is it lightning, or did he break a plasma vent going down or what? If someone could answer that, my life's mystery will be solved.

  • NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

  • MAGICKA!

  • Best Scene in the Star Wars Saga

  • If Vader wasn't completely exhausted from having a tough fight with a guy 20+ years younger than him, he might have survived the flow of Force Lightning through his exo-suit. Would have been interesting to see how he would have adjusted to not being Darth Vader any longer.

  • 1:12 Welcome back Anakin Skywalker

  • This seen gives me the chills. One of the best scenes in film history. Only problem is Vader should have done this back in Revenge of the Sith.

  • @Munezfan30 how was that possible?

  • This is the greatest scene in the history of any movie ever made.

  • Here (and a couple of other channels) may be the only way now to watch an un-butchered version of RoTJ without anything needlessly added.

  • This is the reason why I like dual casting the Sparks spell in Skyrim

  • This scene starts with the Emperor's theme, and then when Anakin kills him we hear The Force theme. EPIC.

  • Glad I still got all my VHS tapes. Classic is king.

  • 1:06 "The chosen one" !

  • This is cut out from a video tape, isn't it??? Man , I would kill somebody for an original video tape!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I LOVE when Vader throws him into the pit "NO ONE EVER TOUCHES MY SON!" Love it :)

  • I am glad that Anakin finally redeemed himself and turned on Palpatine for all the hell he put himself through.

  • He lost his mother, lost his woman, and wasn't about to let his son be killed before him.

  • This is so much better than the NOOOOOOOOOOO version, you see the music does all the work, John Williams score is just completely perfect in this scene, putting NOOOOOOOOO over it ruins the effect.

  • R.I.P. Al Davis

  • Oh Yeah?! You and what lightning hands?! Yes i had to say it.

  • Why do the characters have such deep voices?

  • @8590810 How do you want them to sound?

  • I'm sorry, I never cared about this Han shot first business, or the other stuff fans complain about, but Lucas completely ruined the tension and feeling of this scene. I can live with all the other edits and changes but he just crossed the line. The NOOOOO takes the feeling away.

  • I love this scene. Vader didn't say one word, and you could see the conflict goin on inside him. Whether you'll admit it or not, when you saw this scene for the first time, you were thinking to yourself "Come on, Vader. Save Luke. Kill the Emperor." It was what the world wanted to see. Such an awesome moment. Vader has redeemed himself.

  • Nothing like watching your son get electrecuted to give you a change of heart

  • instead of being thrown by vader, he is a funny alternate

    *Luke Cuts Off Vader's arm*

"Your Hatred has made you powerful, now fulfill you destiny and take your fathers place at my side"

"No, i'll never turn to the dark side"

    *Activates and throws at Emperor*

  • If people look, there are major problems with the Original Trilogy, as well ... not just the Prequels. Look no further than this video. With as much lightning as Palpatine was blasting Luke with ... he didn't react nearly realistically enough. However worse was when Vader picked Palpatine up after Luke was supposed to be on his death bed, he props himself up with no difficulty when he should have been barely able to move.

  • @MystikWizard

There are problems in every film if you look close enough, the problem with the prequels was because Lucas doesn't understand the term ''Less is more''

Vader didn't say a word, yet this scene was so powerful just based on his blank stare in that mask. Yet now he changed him to saying ''NOOO'' again. Y? It wasn't needed, it ruins the entire scene basically.

What did in the prequels was the horribly written dialog, esp between Anakin an Padme. He should have let some1 else do it

  • @XxComablackxX1937 soooo right and it pisses me off! Throw off the magic for a second and realize when they filmed that scene there was no force lightning or music! By adding a totally unnecessary and totally LAME dialogue that I don't even think Jones would have recorded, Lucas raped the art of his actors, his cameraman and his composer. Stupid bastard destroyed one of the most globally respected 30 seconds of moviedom. For what?

  • @XxComablackxX1937 I agree, I wasn't a very big fan of the prequels except for Episode 3 but adding new dialogue just ruined the scene for me. I respect the additions Lucas did to the 1997 Original Trilogy reboot but adding other features in the Blu-Ray edition such as this was was not needed.

  • @XxComablackxX1937 Death to Lucas!

  • @MystikWizard That can be easily explained though... For example, the emperor may simply have chosen to use less energy in his force lightning to kill Luke slowly, or Luke maybe used a force technique to counter the worst effects... Same, afterwards he may have used a force technique to restore some energy to himself.

Besides, he did have injuries from the lightning afterwards (if you check the Extended Universe)

  • Now every time I watch this scene, I'm waiting for him to say NOOOO!!! Damn you George Lucas!!! DAMN YOU!!!!!

  • ...i have the MAD magazine from 1983 with the RotJ theme - in this scene they made me laugh very hard! empereor to luke: "if you don't die because the flashes so i send you the electricity bill...!" LOL

  • You know, Mace Windu didn't last this long against Sidious' lightning.

  • @sickle978 No he did palpatine just pick him up with the lightning and threw him out of the window unlike luke who was on the ground.

  • @chikenbak Luke lasted over 20 seconds against his lightning non-stop. 15 seconds after Windu is struck by the lightning, he stops screaming. Also if you look at his face, his eyes are wide open. Doesn't this mean that he was dead.

  • Guys, Vader gets way too much credit for this. Saying he turned good here is like saying Gaddafi turned good when he protected his family members at the end of his crumbling regime.

    Think about it.

  • and then the emperor went back in time temporarly controlling others to right the wrongs in their lives with the help of his dear friend Al that was also a robot that looked like a human. would he ever return to his own time? nobody knows

  • 1:21 Vader Bomb

  • "That was pretty wizard, wasn't it son?" "What?" "I'm bringing it baack!!"

  • Here are my beefs with this scene:

    1) Wouldn't the Emperor sense Vader's betrayal?

    2) The Emperor could use the Force to stop falling, levitate up and be fine

    3) The Emperor would have Force choked Vader and been done with him with Luke

  • @bhstone1

1: Nope Vader is corrupt! I can´t sense his betrayal...

2: Ofcourse i levitated upp but its difficult on a spaceship were the force is not that strong.

3: I like to use force lightning to brake down my enimies. Choking can be fun to thow.

    Best regards the emperor.

    I♥

  • Palpatine, an imperial officer and three stormtroopers got the internet.

  • now I can't unhear that godawful Blu Ray change, it's going to take years to forget that sound

  • AND THAT'S THE POWER OF PLEASE KIDS!!

  • I'd say Palpatine.....*puts on sunglasses* ...over-reacted.

    YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHH!!

  • What makes this scene great.... Luke's last plea to Vader at 1:06 instead of that dumb ass "NOOOOOOOOO!!" Oh and hearing the Emperor scream as he's falling into the main reactor of his very own Death Star, irony anyone?

  • luke gets electrocuted for like 2 whole minutes and lives but vader gets a zap for 6 seconds and dies?

  • @madrid4life7 Palpatine was clearly torturing Luke. He was about to fry him full-on before Vader grabbed him and took the brunt of the assault.

  • @madrid4life7 vader's almost full machine. his life support gets utterly wrecked. notice how his breathing sounds after tossing palpatine. he's getting barely any oxygen. not to mention his body was already messed up from volcanic ash and stuff from his friendly duel with Obi on Mustafar

  • @TheMonotonousBastard alright ill buy that. but bhstone1 does have a point. Emperor would have sensed vader's attack no?

  • @madrid4life7 Vader was already dying his suit was falling and the Emperor was trying to weaken vader to save his self. S that is why Vader dies shortly afterwards.

  • My God, how can you look at this scene and tell that it's a 30 year old movie!! The special effects are utterly amazing! The Emperor's lightning is so damn realistic! Even more realistic than the one in Revenge of the Sith. However they ruined it in the edited editions of the film including the blu ray. It's somehow not so bright and looks fake because usually a lightning is blindingly bright. This is one of the many reasons why I prefer the absolute original version. I keep my dvds like gold.

  • 1:15

    Emperor : OH NOOOO

Vader : DAS RIGHT SON!! DAS RIGHT!

  • the scene is much more powerful without Vader saying anything

  • @Wittmann73 The intensity on vader is stronger, you can see his bones...I think the emperor was trying to make luke suffer longer.

  • Comment removed

  • I actually like the special editions version with Luke screaming "Father please" but I'd much rather have the original version in place of the incredibly stupid. NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO. The real shame is it's too late for Lucas to change it back, not that he would. He hates his fans.

  • It was so much more powerful without the added "nooooooooo"....can't believe this.

  • @amoergosum3

i can't believe you, where does Vader say "nooooo"?! oO

  • I'm not like a HUGE Star Wars fan. But when I see this I feel like Vader is having more of a hard time trying to decide instead of his "No..." thing.

    Anyway, that's just me.

  • they edited this scene again NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

  • A great scene from a great film. It's better than the mental spoilure of Darth Vader saying "Noooo!" as a result of later tweaking. Without him saying that, the viewers will have to pay attention to the visuals and conclude that Vader turned against Emperor and helped Luke. The 2 shouts of "no!" are more blatant, and thus more revealing, hence spoilure. I know George Lucas can do what he wants with his movie, but the true final cut was shown in 1983. Any changes thereafter are for what benefit?

  • The Good Old Days:

    Han shoots first.

Obi Wan looked back on Anakin with reverence and respect

Vader doesn't cry out "Noo!" at the end.

Hayden Christensen is not at the end of Return of the Jedi.

No 90's pop song in return of the Jedi

The force was more spiritual and mysterious, not based on mediclorians.

Jedi Knights fought with lightsabers like Knights, not anime ninja samurai super heroes.

    Now everything just sucks.

  • @SuspenseSmith don't you mean han's the only one to shoot

  • @SuspenseSmith seriosuly WTF IS THE OLD vhs version..

  • @SuspenseSmith a sith always betray each other unbelivable

  • @SuspenseSmith I think duel of the fates is one of the best star wars soundtracks, so we'll just have to agree about disagreeing.

  • @SuspenseSmith

WHAT? Dude, the lightsaber duels in the prequels were the best parts are the entire series!

  • @SuspenseSmith

Did you know that star wars is largely based off of samurai films?

  • @SuspenseSmith nostalgia much

  • @SuspenseSmith

Wow, troll if you will, but the way Obi-Wan fought Vader in the original trilogy was retarded, lightsabers cant be slow like normal swords because they weigh practically nothing, and jedi are much cooler when they can move faster and jump higher than normal people. I would prefer the new combat style over the old one any time.

  • @Riwillion You must LOVE Micheal Bay's Transformers then.

  • @thatdamnwetback

Actually I hate transformers. It´s a no-story, action-only piece of shit, on the very contrary to ANY episode of Star Wars.

  • @Riwillion @thatdamnwetback i loved the first Transformers which DID have a story, but the second one was a major disappointment and the third was passable. i know i wasn't asked, but that's just what i think. as for the Star Wars saga, the original trilogy is pitch perfect and the prequels are good, not great, but good. his death has more pleasure and significance now, thanks to all three prequels, not just Revenge of the Sith. psychopathic mastermind ruined lives and now he's paid the price.

  • @futuremovieactor

Agreed. I liked the first movie too, but the second ruined even that for me.

  • @SuspenseSmith Pop song in Return of the Jedi? Wait, Lucas added a pop song in the Blu Ray version (I'm assuming that's what you're referring too).

  • @SuspenseSmith Wait, a 90s pop song? Do I even want to know.. ?

  • @SuspenseSmith

The evloution of the fighting with lightsabre thing is explainable though. The jedis/siths from the old republic were actually a lot more skilled with both the force as well as the lightsabres than anyone who appeared in the movies.

  • THIS IS THE WAY IT WAS SUPPOSED TO BE!

  • TIME TO TAKE OUT THE TRASH 1:20 AHHHHHHHHH!!!!!

  • @inimical420 GARBAGE DAY :3

  • GEORGE LUCAS FUCKED UP THIS SCENE!

  • thats the power of please use it wizly

  • NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

  • Darth Vader Wanted to enjoy a little attack before he can save his son

  • It took 2 powerful Skywalkers to kill Palpatine for a while. It's true, his feeble skills were no match for the power of the darkside.

  • I never really caught it before, but after Luke says 'Father Please!' at around 0:26 he says 'Help me!' I must be deaf lol

  • Whats the name of the song?

  • Just before this clip begins, Luke calls the Emperor "your heiness." I thought that term was for a female ruler. Why would Luke use this term? Unless I'm wrong, which it sounds like I am.

  • @umbrella0326 'Highness' actually can refer to male or female of royalty or in this case, a ruler

  • @activenuke Good point.

  • Holy shit this is an awesome scene. I was downright scared of the Emperor as a kid.

  • Why didn't he force choke the emperor

  • @esathegreat

Darth Vader can't force choke, because he has two mechanic arms. And attacking the emperor while he casts force lightning with a lightsaber would have had the same effect: the force lightning from the emperor destroys the health-armour of Darth Vader.

  • @Xerkolador How can't he force choke, he just choked his own men in the first movie

  • @esathegreat

Vader would be dead long before he could accomplish killing the emperor with a force choke.

The Emperor would either use the force to crush his armor, force lighting his ass, hell even force choke Vader or cut him in half with a light saber is he still had one.

Vader while an awesome character was a bitch boy next to Darth Sidious after he got burned in Episode 3.

  • 1:17, Luke is beast. Lightning for 1minute and a half can't kill him or hurt him. Its like he only got tickled.

  • Whose bright idea was it to have the reactor core open to the Emporer's throne room?

  • @planeking6 It cant be more evil than to have an endless pit in the throne room!

  • thats the real sound of force lightening, fuck the 2004 dvd

  • What the hell are they doing up there?

  • SPOILERS!.Palpatine never truly died at the Death Star, his spirit was releassed and he needed a new body, but the power of the dark side was rejected by the clone bodies wich were produced, and he attempted to posses Luke's infant son Anakin Solo. But he failed, miserably =)

  • Sorry Palpatine, but BLOOD is thicker than WATER

  • How powerful! Very powerful scene. It shows that no matter how evil your father is, he will still save you from his other evil people with him.

  • If you can pause the video at the right moments, you can see the lightning electrifying Vader's skull inside the helmet as he collapses to the ground. It's incredibly creepy and sad knowing that the shattered, tortured remains of Anakin Skywalker suffer that kind of traumatic damage. Brilliant special effects, however.

  • vaders breathing as hes dying is sad

  • There is nothing better than a good story well told. The original Star Wars trilogy was a great story and it was told to us very well (though not perfectly). The Prequel fiasco was a mediocre story and it was told to us poorly from beginning to end.

  • @Wyrmwould i would have to disagree, i belive all episodes were very well written and acted, there were a few minor flaws but i think that my Lucas did extreamly well on all fronts.

  • @Wyrmwould that is not true at all. the prequel was great. it showed the rise of darth sidious as he manipulates everyone around him and it shows the fall of anakin skywalker. people who say the prequels suck are not true star war fans.

  • @parasiticlittletick They will pay the price for their lack of vision. *lightning*

  • Everything the emperor says is memorable. Then again, I do love the emperor.

  • 1:12 as soon as Vader picks up the Emperor and The Force music kicks in I just can't keep a straight face and become a gibbering wreck, it's that powerful.

  • @TheAnimeStop The reason fans of the original trilogy tend to dislike the prequels so much is because they're so different thematically. The prequels (barring parts of Revenge of the Sith, maybe) are primarily social/political, while the original trilogy is more of classic "war movies". It's just taste, but the prequels are so near-universally reviled because the fandom was already strongly established in favor of the war movie flavor.

  • @pumpkin0192 the prequels were awful, look up redlettermedia's reviews for them sometime

  • haha pinche pedawso de basura cara aguada

  • That is why you don't have a conveniently located reactor shaft for someone to throw you in

  • i dont undarstand why didnt darth vader just takes the sword and cut the emperor´s head? like he would just have to use the force to atract the sword and then bam!

  • @afferdum He lost his light saber a minute before when Luke severed his hand.....just as Luke lost his blue-colored light saber in "The Empire Strikes Back" when Vader cut his hand off.

  • My apprentice threw me into a 280 mile shaft directly into the main reactor of the Death Star!!!!!!!!

  • remember the force will be with you, always

  • This is why I hate the Jedi Luke bitches and moans for Vader to do everything for him. I'd laugh if Vader just killed Skywalker then and there.

  • how come luke can take like 40 seconds of sustained force lightning and like 5 seconds ultimately takes out vader?

I mean, I know he's old, but that suit looks like it should provide some insulation or something.

  • @ReddJedi 1. he took a direct blast from the Emperor, 2. his physical health was already in a degraded state from the combat with Luke, and finally 3. His suit was destroyed by the Emperor's force blast, and it was impossible to recover it as the death star was being destroyed etc,

Also I think it's fair to say at that point he had lost the will to live also.

    regards

  • @ReddJedi Vader's suit looks like it's designed to be fire proof and not lightening proof. After Vader lost the fight against Obi Wan and his body got all burned up, when the Emperor found Vader and put him back together, the Emperor said, "I think i'll make his suit fire retardent to protect his already burned body... just in case Vader falls into more fire or whatever. I'm not gonna be stupid and make it lightening proof though. I may wanna kill his ass someday. Thats how we evil siths roll."

  • @ReddJedi I believe the book said something about the Emperor's force lightning went out of control when he turned it away from Luke and on to Vader. Also, I think Vader was already so physically vulnerable after nearly burning to death 20 years prior (his biomechanical suit was the only thing that kept him alive) and the force lightning probably melted/destroyed key components of his life-sustaining suit.

  • @ReddJedi In the novel it was said Luke was using the Force to try to block the lightning. Vader's suit, life support, electronics, and all the apparatuses needed to sustain him was fried by it. And there was metal on the suit as well as his arm/leg prosthetics.

  • @fluffysushi well your obviously a homo, the original trilogy even looked better a little touched up because it looked far more realistic. And better duels? Are you fucking kidding me? The duels in the new movies have no emotion added to the fight. Did you feel the same way when qui gon or mace windu died as you did when obiwan died, I think fuckin not. And the old yoda was way cooler then the new one! Original Trilogy FUCK YEA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • the prequels were horrible the dialogue was way too corny. it was all outdated cgi. the fights were stupid because there was no tension and overall they butchered the classics by ruining the darth vader character. it was just lame and who can even remember the plot to phantom menace?? it was the most incoherent movie i have ever seen in my life and that goes for episode 2 and 3

  • This scene came to mind as how Israel could be put in its place by the USA regarding its crimes against the Palestinians. Even the colors sort of match!

  • 1:12

Vaders thoughts: Alright, that's it! C'mere you wrinkly old bastard!

  • I'm so glad Vader or Anakin finally saved Luke. I also wished Anakin wasn't in this horrible cyberborg wearing that terrible mask. I like him the way he was in Episode III before he turned to the dark side and was burned after Obi Wan defeated him. Luke would have known who he was in Episode V.

  • if my dad was vader he would say "KILL THE LITTLE BASTARD HE COSTS ME A FORTUNE!"

  • @Wyrmwould I have to disagree, I really liked the prequels. Star Wars in my opinion is a fantastic film, all 6. The ONLY thing wrong with Star Wars is Jar Jar Binks.

  • we can sympathize with vader, who hasn't wanted to throw their evil boss several thousand feet into a nuclear reactor?

  • It's incredible the conflict that must be happening within Darth Vader's mind...

  • "Your feeble skills are no match for the power of the Dark side!" - man, his voice is brutal! The perfect villain!

  • 5 people will pay the price for their lack of vision.

  • @97jsn .................................

  • That's the same way Bin Laden died

  • Man was I glad that happened when I was a kid! The Emperor is still creepy now, but back then he was nightmare fuel (I think it was the red around his eyes that really scared me). Plus it was a much more moving moment for Darth Vader than any of the prequels. Like other's have said, it's more intersting seeing him as a villain turning good, than the "tragic" story of a whiny pretty boy going bad. Also unlike modern villains the Emperor cuts his speech short rather than talk the hero to death.

  • If you blink, you'll miss it. But this is one of the best father-son moments in movie history.

  • How come The Emperor didn't use his lightsaber in ROTJ? Did he get rid of it because force lightning is a more powerful weapon for him? Or did he have no need to use it since Luke threw away his lightsaber? lol.

  • AFter viewing all the films, the death of the Emperor feels more satisfying and actually made me emotional. It was a long time coming

  • If I was Darth Vader, after throwing Palpatine I would have peed down the shaft!

  • It sucks when you get lightning in your robot suit.

  • i accidently removed my video respons from your video so i am posting it again thanks for the shering

  • Basically, when George Lucas hired mainly British actors in the role of the Evil Empire Seekers it is because he knew they are men and satan overkilling neoconservatives.

  • Palpatine: YOU SHALL DIE!!!! *zapzapzaaaaaaaaappp*

Vader: You know what, I'm just gonna pick you up and throw you off the ledge.

    Palpatine: lolwu- FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU

    *boom*

  • That old man's absolutely the cruelest....lol....

  • vader's evil and dark side rage and power came from his intense grief and guilt over his bad choices he reddemed himself and finally made peace with that by saving his son from his most hated enemy

  • A lot of credit to David Prowse in this scene. He makes Vader appear both sympathetic and pathetic while wearing that same scary mask.

  • @mcbain752 Its more the way the editor cut the video, as david prowse can only turn his head

  • この場面は何度見ても泣ける

  • STRIKE ME DOWN WITH ALL OF YOUR HATRED AND YOUR JOURNEY TOWARDS THE DARK SIDE WILL BE COMPLETE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • just realised the same guy plays the emperor in these films as in the prequals

  • new sith code : DONT TRY TO KILL YOUR APPRENTICES SON!!!!

  • A father's love for his son: what a powerful scene!

  • @nardsofgoat Yep. And it shows how Anakin came full circle. He tragically sided with Sidious against Windu (in ROTS) and converted to the dark side, but this time he made the wise choice.

The Emperor was a fool not to realize that Vader just might turn on him here. After losing both his mother and his wife, he sure as hell wasn't going to stand there and just let his son die. Also, the Emperor was so focused on Luke that he didn't even notice the Rebels were winning the battle outside!

  • @GeorgiaKev

it has nothing do being fool the force itself turned on sidious it blinded him from forseeing the real future and he forseen false visions that luke turned to the dark side.

    read the books

  • @undead4500 And yet it still does. He applied the Force mask to conceal a face that would show signs of degeneration due to overuse of the darkside. You're forgetting that was one of the driving factors for him to apply the mask and not only just to look benevolent in front of people.

  • 5 people joined the dark seeeeeed

  • 0:17 skip too 1:12 thats the power of please

  • 1:27

    FFFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU-

  • haha sucks to be you emperor palpatine XD

  • 4 people didnt like? i dont see a reason why at all =\

  • vader's helmet @ 1:22 is O_O

  • Fatherly Love

  • Still my favorite scene out of all of the saga. I can think of a few ppl i would like to chunk down an energy shaft.
