  • They manage to make Rosa and Eva look like 14 years old girls...well , i dont care, pretty awesome video n_n

  • Pbffft... Of course Kanon chooses the Cleaver XP

  • I forgot... Where is Rokenjima(Whatever you spell it..) at? Is it part of Japan?

  • @HanakoFujita The island itself is not real, but the archipelago it's supposed to be part of, the Izu Islands, is real. As for the buildings, well, the guesthouse is based on a mansion in Kita, Tokyo, while I'm not too sure about the mansion itself.

  • umineko <3 i love motion graphics!

  • Is this an anime show or game? If so can someone tell me.....It looks Awsome!

  • @darkunlovedangel Well, it's a novel, but they made a Shitty anime. It's called Umineko no Naku koro ni, and a fan group called Witch-Hunt is translating it <3

  • Ok I'm guessing that these are just the newer version of the originals featuring new artwork probably alot of other new features and whatnot. That said, doesn't Rosa look too young? I swear she looks Maria's age, at least based off of this op she does.

  • may i know wat name of this song? n which singer sing this? OMG!! its amazing!! thanks!! ^^ its PC game right?

  • shinra etsuko - genyou no chou

  • million thanks!! ^^

  • the pic of jessica with the scorpion charm is very cute, so is the one of maria looking for her rose. i really love the art in these motion graphics

  • DANG! wats this about?!

  • The wealthy Ushiromiya family has gathered on the island they own to discuss the distribution of the inheritance after the family head dies. During the family conference, a typhoon strands everyone on the island, and people begin dying. The family head is said to have made a deal with a witch for a mountain of gold, and all the deaths follow a riddle that the witch left behind. The story is mainly told from Battler's POV in his attempt to deny all magical happenings on the island.

  • That's why it's so great :D They are always saying this and that about magic, but in the end they could be just fooling us xD! We have to wait for EP 5 now <3

  • Umineko isn't the final arc of Higurashi >_>

Reading it makes this very clear. Lambdadelta and Bern-chan talking about Higurashi is the only direct connection.

  • It's the final arc for Higurashi if you can tell. But it's the question arc of Umineko series. Can't really explain much, too much of a spoiler.

  • If I could control it, I would SO make this game into an anime!!

  • I've heard it's being made into one.

  • yah the anime is said to be..either in production or released after Higurashi Rei

  • Yes, that's what I thought.

Just another reason to anticipate the release of Rei ...

  • when are they releasing rei?

  • February.

  • What exactly is Rei gonna be about? I know The original cast is in it(Keichi, Rika...)

  • yea it is! I'm soooo excited!!!

  • HI ANNKIKAAAAAAAA!! :D lol xDD

  • upon opinion, (may contain spoilers)bernkastel and lambadelta were playing a game right? well, i read somewhere that bernkastel was in rika and lambadelta was in takano, since takano kept on winning, this meant that lambada was winning the game... but rika had a friend (which bernkastel did NOT know) whose name was hanyuu whom kept on restarting everything... so takano wins, but the game is restarted by hanyu so is not considered...

  • wait, so are you saying that Umineko is connected to Higurashi? If it is that'd make my day ^_^

  • I think it is only a theory. But I think it is connected also.

  • They are connected only in the matter that both worlds may exist in the same universe. If that's not the case, then the only connecting factor between them are the witches Bern and Lambdadelta.

  • Wow so this game was the basis for Higurashi or is this game an alternate universe oh Higurashi type game? Anyways the music is great and the visual isn't half bad either ^_^

  • This is a story that has nothing to do with Higurashi but are in some ways connected to Higurashi ^^

  • I LOVE it :3

  • I get chills watching this video....

  • Song name and artist plz?

  • Genyou no Chou - Shinra Etsuko

Check out RikkuKirasagi's account, there's download links on one of the videos there. :)

  • Umm... I think Maria's dad will appear later on in the series. Just a hunch though. ;)

  • It's a good hunch. I'd be really surprised if he didn't with all of the mystery surrounding Rosa's situation. At least, I think we'll find out what happened to him... I have this weird hunch that Rosa killed him or something. :p

I hope we find out more about Battler's mom as well.

  • I keep suspecting that Maria might not even be Rosa's daughter to begin with. A piece thrown in by a witch?

  • Ohhh, I like this theory too. XD

  • :O You know a possible site to download the game ;A;??? Please? Message me... DX I so wanna play!

  • hmm

are you sure about kokoro? wasn't that only koro?

  • I think chewy101101 already said that it was koro in an earlier comment. :)

  • Alright i figured the whole series out.

It was professor Plum, in the library, with the candlestick.

  • ...

    Okay, you win. XD

  • H-How did you know?! Don't spoil it! D:

And it wasn't Professor Plum, it was Colonel Mustard :O

  • @Randugulf

DAMN!!! i thought it was Peacock... (>_^)

  • 2:55

    Rena-chan!!! xD

  • A few questions!! ^-^

Is George proposing to Shannon at 2:44? And was Natsuhi about to kill Eva or something? And was Maria the last one to disappear?

  • Yes. No. Maria, Battler, George and Jessica all "disappear" at the end of episode 1.

  • Oh thank you!! ^-^

  • Also, in the tea party for the first scenario, we see what happens to the characters after the disappearances... I won't spoil it here, except to say that in that case Maria goes second-to-last leaving Battler behind as the scenario "reboots" into the next episode.

The tea parties are weird. And, um, horribly freaky. :( They seem to take place in the Limbo that the witches live in? I don't know if what happens in them could be counted as what actually happens in the end of the episode...?

  • Er, what happened after the disappearence was at the very end of Episode 2. Munch munch? Also, check the Character List for Episode 1. Battler is listed as dead with all the others.

Anyway, the tea parties are strange. They definitely are in the realm of witches, and definitely happened. In a sense. I think it is important that ultimately, there should be a human criminal behind everything, so do not accept anything that happens during them as fact in the 'real' world.

  • But is what happened after the disappearence in ep1 the same as what happened in ep2? For example, Maria's situation is very each time.

I know they ultimately get wound up being "gnawed on by demons in Hell" every time, the end roll says as much, I was refering to what we were shown before that.

I totally agree with the "human criminal" idea. Things like curses played much less of a part in Higurashi than I expected, so I kind of expect the same thing here.

  • well the when they cry series is more of a sound novel rather than a visual novel so that means it concentrates more on BGMs ( I love the songs from the games and the fact that if you look at the data, more than half are BGM and sound effects) rather than the artist's skill. The story is cool anyway so I don't mind the drawing.

  • I wish it had english subs.@_@

  • I kinda wanted to see bernkastel in this drwing style.

  • 2分40秒辺りでうるうるきて嘉音君のとこで号泣です!!

    嘉音君も譲冶さんも・・・いい話だうみねこ、

    もう本当うみねこ大好きです!

  • Spoiler:

To make this song a little more mysterious, everyone take a look on the last few second's Maria's letter:

"When you have read this letter, I'm probably long dead..."

"Chances are that in the worst case scenario, the pieces of my body cannot be distinguished from the others'..."

"...So please, you, as the only one who knows this story..."

    "...Solve this mystery..."

"...and that, is my only wish..."

(I know I suck at japanese, but this is the best I can do)

  • Hey... Isn't that a bit like Keiichi's letter in Onikakushi-hen?

  • Thank you.

This is good. You have done well.

  • This really makes me think of Agatha Christie's And Then There Were None (except way freakier and totally on crack)

It's not just the obvious "everyone's stuck on an island and being picked off one by one" thing.

The message in the bottle is what really did it for me - that's how the killer confessed in ATTWN.

It makes me think there are less supernatural forces at work than it seems. (aside from the witches of course) Even in Higurashi, it wound up being an illness and not a curse.

  • that wasnt even wrote by Maria it was proven to be writed by ''Beatrice'' but no one knows yet who the ''beatrice'' is

  • Is there anything weird about Natsuhi? If I'm not wrong, her look seems to be a little.... Takano-ish.

  • Natsuhi is a great character and a loving mother who does everything in her power to keep her daughter safe. A large chunk of episode 1 is told from her perspective, so I think it is safe to say she isn't a villian.

  • Oh... ok.

Maybe I'm too used to Takano...

  • It's hard to say, because don't forget the twists in the question arcs:

-They all featured someone else as a murderer and focused on his/her killings, but ignored the true Villan

So I think that Natsuhi might got drove insane a little bit, and killed Kinzo by pushing him out the window. The real murderer came by and dragged his body into the boiler room. The conversation the two had might be just her hallucination

    Anyhow, this story is epic~

  • Comment removed

  • For the fisrt I wherent going to ruin anybody, And I AM A GIRL so dont call me him for the third sorry it where stated in red, Ushiromiya Kinzo is alredy dead at the start of the game

  • Woops, sorry Ma'am xD .. And seriously.. I need to re-read, my memory is crap then u_u ... And sorry about that, your comment sounded like these spoiler people spit on manga videos and stuff just to ruin it to other people xD ..

  • There is no evidence to support any page.

Even battler is not out of suspicious list.

  • Hee. I thought the same thing about Eva. :P

But knowing what I do from having watched Higurashi, even the most innocent can be totally evil... The only person I'm thinking is pretty safe is Maria, she seems too much like Rika to me to be evil. But you never know! That's why I love the "When They Cry" series so much!

  • Annnd, coming back to this after seeing a year of development in the story...

HOLY CRAP was I wrong. About Maria and Bern; it seems like just about anyone in this series can flip their shit and go nuts.

Which, of course, is why it's AWESOME.

  • well they might put them in ps2 format like higurashi so they won't look chunky anymore, besides the story is more important anyway

  • Most of the characters are beautiful drawn this way. Maria, Shannon, Jessica and Rose (Correct me if I'm wrong, her name goes by pretty fast) are drawn really well.

The girl at 2:55 reminds me somewhat of Rena.

  • It's Rosa. She's Maria's mum :)

The drawings in the game makes all the characters look kinda chunky, these are really high quality for something fanmade. And the person at 2:55 is actually a guy.

  • The person at 2:55 is Kanon, a guy. He isn't much like Rena at all, actually. He's quiet and keeps to himself mostly. That scene where he picks up the cleaver is awesome though. He knows he's outmatched, but he fights on anyway.

  • Yeah it definitely looks like her cleaver.

  • where did you see the scene

  • In the visual novel.

  • That's not a girl...

That's Kanon, the servant, and it's a HE

Spoiler: Kanon appeared in this scene and in the boiler room where he confronted the golden witch beatrice, sadly, before even swinging the cleaver, he got stabbed by the 'Stamp of Satan' of the Seven Infernon Stamps and became the victim of 'Death by Chest-Stab' line

  • This sound is reminiscent of T.Komuro.

  • Ushiromiya=Oyashiro-sama??

  • No.

  • ushiromiya is a family name

  • what i meant was that ushiromiya kinda sounds similar to oyashiro-sama so i thought it had a connection, but yeah forget i said anything -.-;

  • That don't sound anything alike.

The connection between Higurashi and Umineko lies within Frederica Bernkastel, the only character to appear in both.

  • Don't forget Lambdadelta, possibly a Higurashi character.

And I seriously doubt that's the only connection, if we can infer that at least two characters from Higurashi are witches in this. (Maybe, not positively, and not saying who because of teh spoilers).

Anyway, aren't we only 2 or 3 games into the series? I'm sure there will be more connections in future installments.

  • Lambdadelta wasn't in Higurashi. Bernkastel was. Don't get Takano mixed up with Lambdadelta, or Rika mixed up with Bernkastel. They are not the same people, though definitely connected.

Yeah, we're only two games in. But so far, the connection only exists with those two. And a random title drop from Battler. I'm sure we'll see more in the future, but right now, that is all there is.

  • So there go any plans to avoid spoilers...

I'm not getting them mixed up, I think that there's a possibility that they're the same. A number of hints have certainly been dropped. That doesn't mean I'm right, which is why I wrote "possibly."

Personally I think Lambdadelta and Bernkastel exist outside of both universes, and act in various forms in them (in Higurashi Takano and Rika, in Umineko the witches). That's just my theory, anyway. :)

  • Your theory kinda falls apart when pretty much the very first thing Bernkastel ever said was "I'm not Furude Rika."

    Interesting, though.

  • Okay, now they're definetely connected. I wonder why she was saying that as if she knows we're watching her... O_O

I have another theory! I heard from somewhere that they are involved in some sort of 'game'. So maybe they were controling what Rika and Takano did in all the chapters, since they say that Bernkastel 'can roll the dice as many times as it takes', and Rika is, as eveyone knows, constantly revived until she beat Takano. Darn, out of space...

  • She said that during Higurashi, though. She was talking to Hanyuu, I believe. It isn't too clear.

That's the one most people think right now, yeah. Although, I think they were actually born out of it, and didn't exist before the 'game' started. The neverending battle between Rika and Takano eventually moved onto a cosmic scale and spawned too beings of supreme power. The same thing appears to be happening again in Umineko, creating Beatrice and someone else that I won't name.

  • WOW! You responded in 2 minutes?! Oh I'm gonna continue with my surprising long theory anyway.

  • Continue with the foreshadowing-which-took-me-weeks-to-think-of.

Also, Bernkastel is known as the 'witch of miracles'. Sounds familiar? Lambdadelta was the 'witch of the absolute (or fate, whichever you want), and I remember that they had a little talk about fate, didn't they?

Wikipedia also mentioned that Lambdadelta was 'holding a grudge against Bernkastel for finally beating her in the last game'.

Man this is a really long foreshadow... -_-"

  • Yeah, and the whole "they reside in a world where fate and probability can be visualised" and blah blah blah... (I'm tired of typing)

If anyone's wondering where I got this strange theory from, I got it while watching Yu-Gi-Oh with my brother (from the 'Ultimate RPG of Darkness' to be exact). The info is either snooped out of comments and messages or seen in Wikipedia.

Thanks for looking at my long and boring lecture! ^-^

  • As for Beatrice.... I can't think of anything for her except for "demented Hanyuu".

Maybe I spend too much time on games...

  • I agree with you in a lot of respects. To me, it almost seems like the witches are playing some kind of RPG against each other, with a "reboot" when one witch wins, to fight off eternal boredom. It seems to me too, from conversations in Higurashi and Umineko, that Lambda/Miyo had forced Bern to play against her as Rika.

I read an artical somewhere that speculated Hanyuu as the one "rebooting" the scenario each time Rika lost. That almost makes her sound like a witch as well...

  • Hanyuu is a demigod. She was human once, but ascended when she was sacrificed by her daughter.

Throughout Higurashi, Bernkastel constantly talks to someone in the same world that she is in during Umineko. And Rika later appears in that world too, during Minagoroshi-hen.

My theory is Bernkastel was actually talking to Hanyuu all those times, whenever Rika died and they had to restart.

  • I always get messed up when it comes to Hanyuu. With all of the scientific explanations for the Hinamizawa Syndrome, the idea of a demigod thrown in there just doesn't "fit" for me.

And I agree with your theory about Bernkastel and Hanyuu. :)

  • Hanyuu is a demon.

  • Bern controls the kakera of possibilities, and she might or might not be Higurashi's Frederica Bernkastel. Hanyuu knows about them and was the one who transfers Rika's memories from one kakera to the other. Thus, Higurashi wasn't only just a time loop - technically they really were parallel worlds.

It can't really be just a time loop that resets whenever Rika dies, as in many arcs the story still continues for a while after Rika's death (e.g. Watanagashi, Tatarigoshi, Himatsubushi, Meakashi)

  • Yeah, but in the second game's hidden tea party, she refers *specifically* to her time as Rika by saying something along the lines of, "what's that thing I used to say when I was a human? Oh yeah... Mii, Nipah~☆

!" That makes her identity pretty obvious, but that doesn't mean you're wrong either.

What I mean to say is, Bernkastel isn't Rika, but she had been forced to be Rika during the events of Higurashi. That seems to be what the conversations between the witches hints at, for me. :)

  • This right here is evidence of MY theory as well.

  • Which is why I said you weren't wrong. :P

I think bits and pieces of both of our theories are going to be true, as well as things that we never would have thought of. Looking back at the revelations made in Higurashi, I never would have come to the conclusions made at the end after the first two arcs. :)

  • Bernkastel was probably the collection of memories of Rika, so technically she's born from Rika.

  • It's said that Bernkastel is--to put it simply--a variation of Rika, created through all the lives that Rika lived.

  • They do sound KINDA-very, very faintly-similar. However, if there even was a connection, how many people in this game have that last name? They can't ALL be Oyashiro-sama!

  • Nearly every character. Cause, you know, they're all in the same family. They're having a family reunion. The characters are the family and their servants.

They only thing the names have in common is 'shiro'. Which isn't particularly amazing.

  • I know. I read about it on wikipedia. I can't wait until this is an anime!

  • ME NEither, but i really would like to see it in PS2 form. Why did they not use the same animators from the first 2!!

  • These ARE the same animators...it's still made by Ryukushi07 and 07th Expansion...

  • then why is it so suckish!!

  • It is NOT suckish! It has a unique style to it...

  • The anime hasn't been made. The reason it is so suckish is because the guy who makes these games is a pretty bad artist. Take a look at the Higurashi visual novels (not the anime), and they are much much worse.

  • you fail hard, ryukishi was bad artist, but in umineko he improved a lot.

  • I was thinking that too. The art here is *way* better than the art in Higurashi. And anyway, the "When They Cry" series always focused more on story, atmosphere, and sound/music.

  • Not exactly actually, their family name is Ushiromiya, not Shiro.

  • I think you misread my comment. I was stating that the names 'Ushiromiya' and 'Oyashiro' both had uh, Shiro in them. U-shiro-miya and Oya-shiro-.

  • My bad

Shiro in japanese can mean both white and 'generation(lit.)'. And the official name for Oyashiro in Kanji, shiro means 'shrine'(lit.) here. And in Ushiromiya it means Generation(lit.). Still, good point

  • It got a second off at the very end (wow, I've watched this too much), but still very nice.

  • Thank you for uploading! Where did you find the lyrics for the song?

  • I first got the lyrics unofficially from niconico (someone had posted them as comments) to make this video, and when I checked them against the official lyrics which came with the CD a few days later they were 99% correct. The only mistake was at 1:00 where 心 (kokoro) is actually supposed to be 頃 (koro).

  • I knew I heard right "koro" not "kokoro"

  • Hey, wait. Where's Frederica?

  • I was asking a simple question. No need to start demeriting my comment.

  • I wanted to know too~ I miss Rika~!

  • I doubt Rika is ever going to appear in Umineko, sorry.

  • She only appears in Tea Party 2, she didn't appear in the proper story.

  • If only the original game had an art like this GMVs...Because, being blunts, the art in the game sucks as hell. The characters doesn't awaken any feeling. But here I fell in love of all of them. The girls are beautiful (Specially Maria, Kanon and Jessica) And the guys have their pressence (Specially Battler and Kinzo)

  • Wait, did I say Kannon? Excuse me. It's Shannon.

  • what's the full name of this song???? XD it is so cool lolz

  • The name of the song is 幻耀の蝶 (Genyou no Chou), translated it would be "The glittering butterflies of illusion"

  • ^^ thank you lolz ( limewire is amazing XD)

  • It's so great! I loved the higurashi ones, but this one is even better! Thank you for the subs, it's really appreciated!
