I am a stupid math major, could you please define what the 2 sides of the V-line are? It seems like you mean the hand entries should be a bit away from the straight torso line (head, butt, and ankles), instead of the popular idea that your hand entry shoud be on your torso line?
@liangshi1 Zane, you are correct the entry bilaterally should be a bit wider than the torso..just outside the shoulder. And this is flexibility, mobility dependent...but with this position and entry the tempo of the stroke is improved.
@evanscoaching Please don't read this as an apology, but I did just want to add that your videos are great. I always considered myself a good swimmer but your videos have not only shown me that I had no idea what I was doing all these years but they have given me a real appreciation for how technical the sport is. Thanks for taking the time and for sharing your knowledge.
sorry if any word isn't right lol bay the way i am paulo a Portuguese sport student and my specialization is in swimming i must say you vids and page are a great help for me
I i have seen all your vids about swimming and they are all 5 stars , however on this one about the v-line i have a question : if the entrance off the arm is +- 45 degrees isn't the line off propulsion after catch angular cosing a wast off energy . and another one this v line does not expose to much the shoulders rising the area in contact with the water cosing more resistance?
In reality, 45 degrees is for most a bit too wide for the reasons you indicate. It would probably be better to enter just outside of the shoulder line.
Once again, the V-line did not seem an intuitive way to swim right, but over the last couple of months I've tried it and found it helps my stroke in terms of stability, and lead in to the "open arm pit". After a while it feels great in the water, and has become one of the things I always check to get my stroke feeling right. Thanks again for modern free tips on You Tube!
Thanks. And yes, working for a couple of months is key when "restructuring" a stroke. It simply takes time, but it's worth the effort as you've noted.

@evanscoaching What does "the tempo of the stroke is improved" mean?
Are you talking about an improvement in overall rhythm and timing or are you suggesting it will increase the stroke tempo, or something else?

These videos are intended to be viewed as if I am coaching you 1-on-1.
You know, just like "real life" coaching. And in "real life" you can't do "slow motion".
If you have a specific question please ask so that we all might be helped by your insights.
All the best.
