Before you start to play, go into the options menue and change the shuriken number to zero, then wait. After a few seconds,c you hear a sound and the icon changes. Now you have unlimited shurikens.

I always found that the double jump was too akward to master, i've died endlessly on the second level courtesy of either not bein able to see anything when i jump off platforms, or courtesy of the lame double jump....for memories this is the best shinobi, but for gameplay shinobi 3 is where it's at

@MrDcmetal666 Revenge of Shinobi on it's first release had unlicensed likenesses of Godzilla, Batman, Spider-Man, Rambo and martial arts legend Sonny Chiba (on the title screen). I don't think originality was high on their list of goals lol. Granted, if you're going to plagiarize Fist of the North Star is totally awesome and worth ripping off, but the whole 19xx thing was common at the time, just shorthand for "in the near future, but not giving you a specific year".

Arguing over how to pronounce "Ninja Gaiden" is stupid. It can be pronounced either way. It's all about accent. It would make sense to pronounce it as "Gay-Den" because in Mortal Kombat, you call Raiden "Ray-Den", you don't call him "Ry-Den" so Gay-Den makes more sense. Usually in the English language, the i after the a make a capital A. However it's not always the case. BTW Mark, his name is not Shinobi, it's Joe Musashi. In Shadow Dancer you play as Hayate, Joe's son.

I forgot how much I loved this game when I was little until I bought the Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection and replayed Shinobi III. It's a shame they didn't include The Revenge of Shinobi in that collection. Good times.

This game looks weak compared to its bigger better brother Shadow Dancer. I never played this one but just by looking at the gameplay of it that it looks boring. I like the look of the sprites in Shadow Dancer more and the cool bosses. You should review Shadow Dancer.

I love the Shinobi games (even Alex Kidd in Shinobi World) but I gotta say I love Ninja Gaiden too, especially NGII for NES. That game is an absolute masterpiece. The modern NG games are much better than the 3D Shinobi games too. Shinobi for PS2 was rubbish.

i used to play a game on my old, old computer in the 90's.

I was on a tape cassette that you put into the computer, you played in a pyramid finding treasure and dodging mummies.

The background was black and i think the characters etc were green.

Does anyone have any idea what game or system this was?

One of the best game soundtracks of all time! Yuzo Koshiro was the rock star of the gaming world back then. I miss the days when video game music was like this. As for the game, it is the best Shinobi game AND best ninja game ever, hands down. As for Ninja Gaiden, all it was was hard. I defeated the original NES game with no cheating. It was the hardest game I have ever beaten. However, this game was a true next-gen experience from top to bottom at the time...more polished, more fun.

This was one of my first games I had and still own on my Megadrive. It's not extremely difficult as some say, just very challenging. Great BG music, graphics, gameplay and above all style is what sets this game apart from other classics.

Play this on the original console, I guarantee you'll be blown away.

the technical prowess being showcased in this game was out of this world in yesterday's standard. I still remember being amazed by the arcade quality graphics produced on a home console. Also, the music written by the famed composer Yuzo is probably one of the most memorable bgm that I have ever heard in a videogame.

This is an awesome game! One of my favorites. I could beat all but the very last level that you don't cover in your other review that level was a little bit to long and confusing. This game was really good but I have to say the 3rd one was easily the best of the series. The sequel was cool too but it strayed a little bit to far from the original.

Honestly i prefer ninja gaidens music it makes me get filled up with adrenaline, shinobis music is more 80ish' gaidens is timeless, you can use it in any era. i prefer ninja gaidens speed, he ran with the exciting "heroish" music backing him up and slashing everything while shinobi is much slower. the shurikens are fine but i just prefer slashing everything. but he is right though, gaiden is to small shinobis size is better and graphics obviously.
