I encourage anyone who's feeling the nostalgia to check out therebirth(dot)net... it's a 1.12 vanilla server that strives to be as close to the original vanilla wow as possible... don't be turned off by the crappiness of most private servers, there are no instant levels, donations, vote rewards, free gear, xp boosts... just pure nostalgia. One of the least buggy private servers you'll find as well, the people running it are amazing. The closest you can get to experiencing what you once loved...
The melody that starts at 3:00 brings back so many memories. The thing that makes me miserable is that I know, while there will be amazing games in the future, there will never be another game that comes even close to the absolute perfection that WoW used to be. It's something lost in the unutterable memory of those who experienced it, and it will die with those people. Lucky the future generations won't know what they missed out on... ignorance is bliss.
i remember raiding x roads with my boys akiller hadora kalorth seculusion long saturday and friday nights planing them every friday or saturday good ol days man.. i sware teaching me how to play rogue teleporting from darn levelings as a gnome lock night elf druid good days it will never be the same no more guys
man old days brah leveling 1-10 miss these days just like that man margull said this is was my 6-9th grade child hood .. playing day and night all alone no 1 to talk to or understand but my games friend and unfortunaely all of them are gone
So nostalgic :D Like a lot of people said, this takes me 6-7 years back. The game was awesome back then, but it's not only that...the phase I was going through back then was way better than now. I was in highschool, I didn't have many problems to think about. Hearing this takes me back to that era, even if only for a few minutes.
MISS THIS!!!!!! the barrens used to have a perfect atmosphere. i remember being the biggest noob in the world using a month getting from level 10 to 20
@Margull I wish I could forget everything abou wow and do it all over again. You're right, it's not just a game. But yet society calls us addicts because we really enjoy a hobby. What is so much better about going out to put poisonous alcohol into your body while making small talk for hours?
this is the music i know and love :D reminds me so much as most people have said making my very first troll shaman and leveling up into the barrens, kill x amount of mobs :P
DOES ANYONE KNOW WHERE MANKRIK'S WIFE IS? SOMEONE TOLD ME SHE IS IN A SWAMP TO THE SOUTH BUT I WENT THERE AND NOW A LVL ?? VIN DIESEL IS CAMPING MY CORPSE! PLEASE HELP MY GEAR IS ALL RED!
Barrens forever <3 I remember when i made my first char and it was a orc hunter and i had cloth gear on and didnt know how to get new spells, i will never forget you <3
i really dont like the new music :/ i have it with all the wow soundtracks. the ones that play in the forests, swamps, caves, they all had their own mysterious touch.
As i didnt totally understand the game while questing in the barrens almost 7 years ago.....i had the idea saving as much gold possible (as gold was NOT easy to get).....so i decided not to use flypaths....i ran from orgrimarr to crossroads to thunderbluff and wherever i needed to go.....later i thought how stupid that was (same for saving talent points till i thought time was right)...but now i/m happy cause it brought me so many memories...walking for hours and hours just trough the barrens :)
I bought World of Warcraft back in 2005, and I still, to this day, don't get why they wouldn't include this wonderful piece on the Soundtrack. Why wouldn't they...?
Everytime I hear this song, I think of the general chat, running across the fields, and Wailing Caverns. Vanilla feels like ages ago.
Nostalgia, you really do mean 'the pain from an old wound'.
@Stoogemeister420 same here. I miss the old days and every now and then Im tempted to renew my subscription. But yes... it wont be the same. Im not saying, that the game is bad now but the magic it once had is gone. I have some great memories that i cherish. But 4 years is enough.
Oh, the memories.. No matter what people say, WoW was more than just a game. I remember with joy when I sat in school talking to my friends who also played WoW at the time, discussing what to do next, what kind of character to start next and cursing the ninja who didn't roll for the chest we found..
Sometimes, when I close my eyes and listen to this music, I can fool myself into believing that I’m seven years back in time, back in the old barrens, when I had just gotten my first character up to level 10. Sometimes I can still remember how it was being a complete noob, exploring a new and mysterious world, not knowing what was ahead of me. Some people claim this is just a game, but this was my childhood. When nobody in the world understood me, this game allowed me to escape reality.
@Margull I would say the same. If there's one thing it did right it was immersing you. Exploration coupled with second to none atmosphere earned the early days of WoW a special spot among the rest of my memories of the past.
@Margull I TOTALLY agree with you, I loved being noob, my first char created was a troll hunter, I met 3 orcs, I was lvl 4, the other ones level was: 6,4,5 , we ran along the roas and wrote, suddenly we came to orgrimmar and had no idea where we were...I loved it, then I created a tauren hunter and reached lvl 10, I was so excited because I had 50silver, so I bought (yes, I bought) a new armow at the Crossroad...I loved being there, as a guy, who has no idea where he is, but loved it
Close your eyes and listen.. Feel the numbness in your finger from before you learned auto-run, feel the soreness in your eyes from the chuck norris jokes...
What happened to you WoW? I want to go back to you, but it's like going back to your high school sweetheart after she had sex with like 8 black guys in your car. ;_;
@LULULULUWUTAXEROGS Yes, WoW changed, but it's more about us. We have changed. We aren't noobs anymore. We are dps meter whores now (if not left game at all) and there's nothing anybody can do with this (untill someone can create game with absolutely new scheme). It's more like going back to your high school sweetheart, after you've been with whole college :)
@natosha88 I agree with you. I remember my first night of WoW. I made a NE Rogue (Horde FTW, but everyone had a NE at some point) and just wandering around the starting area just thinking "Wow!" and opening the map and thinking there was so much to explore and how exciting it was going to be. Back when I'd stop and look around at the environment, now everyone just wants to get level capped and down as many bosses as they can. Still, WoW got banged by 8 black guys.
I came to realize why WoW wasn't fun anymore by the end of WotLK, when I was raiding ICC heroic 25 and just focusing on DPS and heal meters and downing bosses. All I had to show for that was AFK'ing in Dalaran with my meaningless armor and mounts.
Only then did I realize what truly mattered were those first few experiences of awe and wonder when I was still learning—the journey, not the end.
Barrens was amazing the very first time, the second time... Not so amazing. I still do love this zone though. And I miss the 4 alliance elite mobs on mounts which I thought I could take down by myself in cloth armour.
Oh god. The memories. Spending hours in the evening questing here, while my friends were far above me in levels. Asking them how to do something, while I stared at those walking pig guys. Figuring out how to beat them and if I could beat them. The music in my ears made it a pesky decision. Walking to the crossroads. Completing the quests. I spend hours... in the Barrens.
@SilkyMuggs The music is there, there's some additional music now, the atmosphere....The essence persists, the atmosphere is a bit different, scenery is changed, but in my opinion, for the better in some cases, I've been in the Barrens twenty times too many and it's a nice change of pace, though it sucks I'll never re-live walking from x-roads all the way to Ratchet for the first time and seeing the little oasis from atop the hill...
God daaaamn this music brings back memories. I used to love coming to Barrens after ICC and just chilling out at XR, watching lowbies duel. Waiting for Alliance to come and have some PvP fun.
barrens is not the same, too bad you cant turn back time so many memories great music, Barrens chat Now empty, it wont be the same - Bah fail comment words just cannot descibe the memories i've had with barrens 4 years ago
It’s late at night, your room is dark. You should have gone to bed hours ago, but you just had to do one more quest. You gaze up at the beautiful night-sky and see the vast plains outstretched before you. Time to go kill some Quillboars and find that oasis, but you gave up on finding Mankirks Wife a long time ago.
Barrens, why was it so magical? Was it simply we who made it that way, or was there really something special about it? I guess we’ll never know.
Gosh, i remember when my dad let me create an character on his account 6 years ago, i was home alone and logged my LvL 10 Orc Hunter named Orchorde. i had really struggled to get to level 10 and i was finally prepared for The Barrens. When the music started, i was bound to it. Damn, i have never had such an awesome connection to a piece of music in a game. This piece followed me through endless killing of Zebras, Centaurs, Raptors. And Also. Alot of wandering. <3 Old Barrens
Started playing on patch 1.2 right after release. My guild was one of the first on our server to down Ony, ragnaros, the Thundarran encounter... the first on our server to do Nefarion. Those were the days... that was what... five years ago? good god. TBC was good, and I enjoyed WotLK (collectors set and all) but I never ever got the same feeling of enjoyment, friendship, community I got out of Vanilla. Shout out to Lightbringer server. Silent Reality ftw. Black Dragonflight never compaired.
the barrens really felt like home..crazy isnt it? soemtiems I just ran up and down the hills, watching the sun go up and down, watching the moon and the stars, the animals roaming around..walking around in that place really made me feel free.
my heart gets heavy when i hear this... THIS is world of warcraft, THIS is the greatest game of all time... gone, probably forever... to think what it has become is depressing... a horrible abomination.
We quested together for a week, slaying gnolls and helping the horde prosper. We stuck it out through the constant graveyard spawns and chuck norris jokes. Until we said farewell at level 25. I never looked back, now it's too late and this is one chuck norris joke to far. I will miss you old Barrens <3. Wailing Caverns still sucks though
I always remember 2:02 - 2:25 being my favorite tune. Nowadays the game's really not the same. Been 2 years since I quit because the changes. Classic WoW was exactly that.
@robbandstucky, I agrees as well, it just doesn't have that same timeless feel. And I would like to at least see leveling become more formidable again.
Memories... that's all that needs to be said. I quit WoW more than 2 years ago, now it's 5 am in the morning and I am clicking WoW soundtracks, reminiscing about the old days that I just discoverd the game, more than 4 years ago (started playing the week TBC came out).
Message to Blizzard: If it ain't broke, don't fix it!
Before BC, WotLK, and Cata, this game was borderline of PERFECT! I've been playing since April 16, 2006, and it's still great, but it just isn't the same. This isn't just a figure of speech. There really was something magical about vanilla WoW. I really do miss those golden days. Hearing this beautiful music again gets me emotional.
Things change, time goes on. Things have to evolve, otherwise they become dated. People cry out for more content. So that's what they got.
I sat down to play WoW the day it came out. I hadn't read one review, seen one video. Nothing. I had played previous Warcrafts and D2, so I wasn't a noob to Blizzard. I loved it. Best game I've ever played.
Any game is amazing when you don't know it and it's all new. That's what vanilla WoW was. New and exciting. Cherish the memories.
Oh, The Memories!! Specialy from 3:00. that just makes me feel like 6 years ago when i started wow:( I Cry when i hear this. the memories are hard inside my horde brothers!!
while levelin my first char long long time ago.. [1.Barrens][70]hello someone needs [Gloves of the Fang] ? [1.Barrens][11] wow how much i have to pay for it? [w:from][Niceguy] where are you? [w:to][Niceguy]i am in crossroads killing pink dinosaurs. [w:from][Niceguy]ok ill be there? in sec. - Niceguy trades me [Gloves of the Fang]. [w:to][Niceguy] how much money sir I have 20 silver [1.Barrens][14] where is mankrik's wife? [w:from][Niceguy] its free. enjoy [w:to] OMFG thanks! blue omfg! omfg
@firat494 ye i cant believe blizz replaced it with something else... that music was the core music of the horde and i always loved it with crossroads. just shows how badly cata is deteriorating wow
Guys try the Project Feenix wow server... Almost 3500 people online at it's best times.

@Margull That's pure poetry there man. Recognize it so bad!

@tyucougars111 Yeah, fun maybe but so goddamn fast. Just use heirlooms and one zone is completed in 30minutes.

TheSasori101 6 months ago
We quested together for a week, slaying gnolls and helping the horde prosper. We stuck it out through the constant graveyard spawns and chuck norris jokes. Until we said farewell at level 25. I never looked back, now it's too late and this is one chuck norris joke to far. I will miss you old Barrens <3. Wailing Caverns still sucks though

TBC was a great expansion, but I don't know why everyone hated Wrath so much...

@MrNomSauce Wotlk had great story, and I really liked dungeons although everyone whined how easy they were.

Best music in any video game.
GrandTheftJuggalo313 7 months ago
I always remember 2:02 - 2:25 being my favorite tune. Nowadays the game's really not the same. Been 2 years since I quit because the changes. Classic WoW was exactly that.
Completely Classic.

@robbandstucky, I agrees as well, it just doesn't have that same timeless feel. And I would like to at least see leveling become more formidable again.

You will never experience a game like pre-tbc WoW again with the same sense of wonder and excitement. ;_;

Memories... that's all that needs to be said. I quit WoW more than 2 years ago, now it's 5 am in the morning and I am clicking WoW soundtracks, reminiscing about the old days that I just discoverd the game, more than 4 years ago (started playing the week TBC came out).
The Barrens and STV are the most memorable : )

Message to Blizzard: If it ain't broke, don't fix it!
Before BC, WotLK, and Cata, this game was borderline of PERFECT! I've been playing since April 16, 2006, and it's still great, but it just isn't the same. This isn't just a figure of speech. There really was something magical about vanilla WoW. I really do miss those golden days. Hearing this beautiful music again gets me emotional.
TheHighRoller473 8 months ago 5
@TheHighRoller473 I think the game was still perfect during TBC, WotLK was a bit annoying, and I don't even have Cata :P
ryanvids1 8 months ago
@TheHighRoller473
