Charlie doesn't hammer from blanks everyday like these guys do, though ... he hammers from cymbals that have been shaped by a hydraulic press ... much, much easier to do. And for the record, artisan bells are pressed by machine. The hammering sabian does is nowhere near as complicated as what these guys are doing.
same way drummers play without hearing protection sometimes, you just deal with it. Yeah you damage your hearing but thats part of being a musician. I played without hearing protection for 8 years now I wont even consider doing it with out some type of hearing protection.
Plus since they dont use anything to block out the sound they can hear if there is a dead spot in the cymbal.
Actually I take back what I said if you look really closely you can see they are wearing hearing protection. at 1:44 and at 3:06 you can see they have something stuck in their ears. They look like attenuators (professional ear plugs that drop the db level by a certain ammount) but they could be regular ear plugs. The reason I think they are the attenuators is you can see little plastic pull tabs that are on them. I've got a set of the attenuators and I've used them at concerts they work great
When bosphorouscymbals says "the big 3" , they are probably referring to Zildjian, Sabian and Paiste. I like all of these companies products but Bosphorous does bring their own unique sound to the table. Have a sound in mind when you go cymbal shopping and buy with your ears.
I've been to the factory and seen these guys at work. Yes the working conditions are not like we have in the "West" but these guys are proud of what they do and what they produce is way way better than what we get from the big 3. That's the message I'm giving by selling on their behalf in New Zealand. "Once you've had Bosphorus you'll never go back"
better then sabian HH, HHX, or artisan vault, i highly douht, no minor company comes close to the craftsmenship, of sabian's artisan vault, there r 100percent handcrafted, unlike these cymbals that are prehand made, meaning that they machine press the bells in to shape, artisan bells r hammered in to place with sledge hammer
Woah, got new respect for them...I've done all that banging in a smaller scale than them and it took couple of hours, imagine how many they haveta do in a day??
Handmade goods are always best :D especially seeing the care and effort they put into it
@dbts808 this production methods, is the same that the first avedis zildjian used, the production methods your thinking is how the chinese made cymbals, turkist and asian production methods r a little different
@phatphace charlie brown with sabian has been hand hammering cymbals longer than most of the people who work there been alive, i'm pretty sure charlie would show these guys up, like man i show u how truly hand hammer

I just wonder how many cymbals could be made if they were able to recycle the metal lost in the lathing process.

Bosphorous will get my business,
Their intense 3.000 year-old production methods create incredible cymbals.
My expensive factory-made Zildjian cymbals sound fine but I would pay a little more to support this "old-World" art.
My deepest respect to the craftsmen.
dbts808 3 years ago 2
Yeah, and they sound better than just about any other cymbal!

Yo, I recently heard a Bosphorous ride played in an intimate jazz setting.
I like my 20"Constantinople but I was very impressed with the Bosphorous.
Maybe, one day, when I strike it rich ...

yeah, I don't have any Bosphorous cymbals, but my drum teacher has a really nice ride. I'm hoping get one when I have some money too.

Factory made cymbals can never be compared to one man, one hammer and a couple 1200 hammer hits.
