  • is she speaking english?

  • depriving girlsof the rights of education? when westerners privatise the schools and implement structural adjustment programs that restrict the amount of money spent on basic institutions...? wtf is this? everyone should get to go to school, if people thought that a girl would be taken more seriously in the academic world, and abroad, they would send her to school, but more often than not its a risk to send any child to school because of the money needed. why people chat so much smucky?

  • like people are just sitting around deliberately not sending girls to school..only someone who doesn't know west africa and its history can act like that...a post colonial mentality garnered during a generation or so (even though sierra leone 2 centuries old as a nation) is mixed up with inherent west african mentality. what sort of nation disrepsepcts their womenfolk? a backwards nation-this is a round about way of saying that africans are backwards-if not why not GET RID OF S.A.P in that case?

  • but i will conceed that neo african patriarchy is as messed up as neo western matriarchy

    yuk.

  • that is what happen to you not all the other girls..but the secret society is true which is good because girls need to learn how to be responsible of their house hold not to be a hoe

  • You can thank colonization and imperialism for this shit. Look at what the caucasoid beast did to his own woman. I live in america and I know the history. The white woman had to start a womans rights movement to even vote. WHile black people were slaves, the white woman was only a second class citizen whos only worth was her reproductive organs. SHe didnt work, wasnt educated, and was disenfranchised by the naturally homosexual white man.

  • this is because of the mysogonistic, sexist ,male chauvanistic, anti-feminine influence of Islam and Christianity. The white and arab male, having historically abused and sibjugated, and beat and flogged and dismissed their own women to a menial existence and treated her as nothing but property to be traded, itroduced this cultrue into west africa. Before Islam we entered west africa we exalted our women as DIVINE QUEENS.

  • You are lying, I'm a Sierra Leonean, and I've lived there for the rest of my life, its just now that I'm out. I didn't see that type of discrimination among any Sierra Leonean community.Maybe your mother and father were doing discrimination among your family. So please stop lying. Thomas Sylvanus Gbondo,Australia.

  • Aminata, the girl interviewed in the video is from Sierra Leone and was certainly reflecting truthfully on her own experience and that of many other young women Plan has spoken to -- Plan has been working in Sierra Leone since 1976 The experience of young men is often different to those of girls and discrimination is not always so easy to pick up when it is not directed at you.

  • Plan is collaborating with local organisations in Sierra Leone, including the Federation of African Women Educationalists, who are concerned about educational opportunities for girls.

For further information and more personal experiences you can read Plan's report' Because I am a Girl' downloadable from our site at becauseiamagirl . org -- or if you wish we can put you in touch with local organisations in Sierra Leone working to fight gender discrimination.
