People need to quit repeating the lie that touching a deer makes it be rejected by its mother. Human scent does not cause that - not even in birds. That is an urban legend/myth that was long ago disproven. Many animals have a rather poor sense of smell anyways and humans do not leave any overwhelming scent in most cases anyways. With that said, while I know your intentions were good, you shouldn't have approached them. They now think humans are okay and will approach a hunter just as easy.
Not that I have a problem with real hunting, I got pretty annoyed later that year when the deer came and ate my whole garden. There are way too many deer in that part of the country. We need to bring back the wolves--I have heard that the big cats are moving back into the area tho.
Thanks NatsuoDesire! The twins were fine we saw them many times later that year and they didn't care for me at all. Actually funny thing is the property we filmed them on had a few deer blinds on it from the previous owners as well as a hunting cabin that they used to sit in and point their guns out the window. They would drop some apples or some kind of food the deer liked right outside the window so they had a point blank shot at the deer that came to eat the food! Pretty shocking.
I wouldn't do that , because if a game warden just randomly popped up, you would be fined for baiting if you actually did it or not, well of course unless you live in Michigan, Wisconsin, Texas or Maryland.
@TheOnlyBlueStopSign yeah pretty crazy, I guess they used to get in trouble all the time but had some way of getting around it or getting left alone or something. I don't really know all the history of the area that well, just finding out about it as I go along.
I love how people try to seem like a deer expert in their comments. Can't we all just enjoy this awesome video and be happy without trying to show off the knowledge we have?

This video would rock if it had the natural sounds of the surroundings in the background INSTEAD of the music. No offense. But the deer and fawns are really sweet, so thank you for that. This is some awesome footage.
AWW! so cute, my 6th month old puppy has all the energy of a baby fawn, and she also has the color of a baby fawn, and her snout is long and black around the nose and mouth i guess her name suites her perfectly!(her name is Fawn), its amazing seeing those 2 babies! :D i only wish i could see them in person
All of the anti-hunting comments make me laugh, especially the part about the states with the most hunters being the ones with the most deer. Um... duh? It's like being shocked because more people go to the Rockies to go snowboarding instead of Iowa.
@hdelicious The problem is humanity they inter fear with wld life and so many o the are put down because of people feeding them hunting is not culling. I hunt and more wild bears in the smokey moutians are put down because people feed them dont get me wrong ienjoy wild life watching also. The video is just awsome and thanks for not feed them.
HAPPEND TO ME: Driving on road at 35 MPH then BRAND NEW BABY DEAD on road, HARD BREAK stop intime, is scared shitless so it falls to the ground. its blocking cars and theres noway around it. i said "fuck it" and opend door picked up baby derr (witch felt no more then 2 pds) and put it on grass
for those of you who are against hunting deer, you might want to do some research. by the way we kill way more cows, turkeys, chickens, and fish than deer.
I love deer. They're precious. I wish everyone in my community wasn't so obsessed with killing them. I mean, I know it's necessary for population control, but COME ON people, they're so precious.
It's not really needed for population control. That argument was made as an excuse for states to profit off selling hunting licenses. Hunting is a business, not a neccessity. There are too many people in some of our cities causing way more problems than any deer population--- yet we don't accept hunting people down.
how can you say that. in virginia the populatin is way out of hand. in my county alone the deeer strike rate is 1 for every 2 cars, ive hit 8 deer lol in one year, no joke. they are a huge problem on the farm as well, eat all the crops, killt he chickens lol, and they trample growing plants. hunters are respectable too, they eat what they kill (usally) pay their dues, licenses, and its a real sport, aint as easy as one two three lol
If you did´n killed all the bears then they would keep the deer population down.
If it´s true that you have run into so many deers, then you´re certainly a sad excuse for a driver. You better take a new test, cause drive is not a thing you do well.
really, im a sad exceuse? lets see you on a dirt road, gravel road, muddy road and or icy road, going say 50mph when only 100 feet and closing, lets not forget this is at night, a big old deer runs out in front of you, you really have about 1 second to react. not very much, even you could do it, if you managed to swerve, youd hit a tree or flip over. thus your tree hugging democratic ass fails in this argument
NO ONE goes 50 mph under such conditions, you just makes my point even more clear. Here we most drive 30mph, and again under such conditions we need to slow down, if we´re spotted by the cops driving faster it really will be an expensive affair, depending of how fast we drive over the limit. On highways there are fences where deer can show up, it make of cause a huge difference, it happens a deer being hit by a car, but your number are ridiculous. It´s what all our drivers hit in a year
its all private roads, and in the way back coutry were NO speed limits are to be followed. even on the paved parts, trucks set to absolute off road can handle 50mph fine. im not talking about the highways as much as i am the smaller roads were almost all strikes happen. plus they deer also eat the crops like no other, basicly eating money, kill live stock, and trample otherwise good gardons and baby feilds. the deer love corn and soybeans. last year, i lost 25 acres of land to deer, $25k+ lost
Deer overpopulation is actually caused by hunting, as the remaining deer after hunting season have less competition and therefore flourish more. If people stopped hunting the deer population would regulate itself.
actually, the contrary is true: coming from someone who loves deer and has rehabilitated a few fawns myself, i at least know that: Hunting, if done appropriately, will help a deer population bc if hunters only shoot the bucks w/ big racks (not the doe who have fawns!!) then these big bucks w/ full racks (that are infertile at old age) won't be around to take over all the doe in the area, and the doe will be able to actually ~mate~ with a healthy young buck & be able to produce offspring.
But that's kind of the point of my argument--that hunting is contributing to a growing deer population that people say is too large and needs hunting to deplete it some. If the older bucks were taking over the younger doe because they weren't being hunted, the does wouldn't produce as many offspring. People are saying that hunting is necessary to control an overlarge population when the opposite is true.
These deer were so cute! but good to hear all comments. There are a lot of deer out there, lymes disease and whatnot aren't much fun, bring back the wolves I say, and the mountain lions!
Ark, hunting doesn't cause overpopulation, they keep the herds at a healthy level. Hunters cause the deer a certain amount of stress in the month of October, when the deer are at their fattest. Wolves, coyotes, mountain lions and dogs cause them stress year round, and are seldom in line to buy deer habitat, hunters have always done so. Killing trophy bucks does little to change the deer herds genetic pool because bucks have already done their genetic duty quite a few times by then.
Ark, in 1969 Canada did what you probably wish for, they banned deer hunting entirely. 1970 was a bumper crop of deer, and road accidents went up accordingly. 1971, though, was a tragic, sickening disaster. The deer ate everything and there were simply too many of them. They came across the border like a swarm of emaciated locusts. We put out feed for them but it was just too late for most and they died in agony because people didn't want Bambi to be hunted.
Look you tree hugging idiot it was a joke. If it werent for hunters deer would die of hunger in most areas where the populations explode. Also, the fees paid by hunters have traditionally gone to further the protection and betterment of wildlife and is probably the largest source of funds that does that. Lastly, if that was you filming those fawns, and they were wild, you did them a huge disservice; by allowing them to lose their fear of humans, you put them at a disadvantage. Good going.
Let me clear something up for the public because they deserve the truth not the euphemism, whitewash, lies and excuses that 'hunting' org love to use.
1. 'Hunting' causes overpopulation by the simple fact that wildlife is manipulated to ensure there will an abundance of deer year after year for human scums like you to use for their sick "recreation".
2. Explain why the states with the most 'hunters' have the most deer?
Also explain why the statistic that just came out says that Deer Vehicle Accident has gone up SIGNIFICANTLY in the last 15 years and many of those states with the highest DVA's had the most 'hunters'. Can you explain that?
5. 'Hunting" seperates the group leaving young ones behind which they do not get the warmth from the group
6. If 'hunters' are so "worried" about starving deer why do they not wait till later in the season to kill rather then when the deer is fat?
7. 'Hunters' kill deer's natural predators ie, coyotes, wolves and bears. The natural predators weed out the sickly keeping the healthy for future healthy herd
8. 'Hunters' kills the healthy or the ones with the big rack and leave the sickly behind which causes future weaker herd.
10. Starvation is part of animals life, being sick and dying is part of nature and that is how weak ones will die and healthy stay on but what happens with 'hunting'? They kill the healthy and strong!
Overall 'hunting' destroys the healthy eco-balance and causes starvation
No matter what deer will always be cautious of human. The deer in my area I can come up to them and feed some of them by hand but most will not let you do it especially the big buck. The female and little ones are comfortable with me but with strangers they take off.

omg omg omg omg omg omg omg that is the cutest thing i have ever ever seen!! i live in vegas so i dont get to see that everyday. i am soooo happy for u!!
I was really lucky actually. I walked out of our home one day and found that their mother had left them hiding in plain view on our barren hillside. After they came up and sniffed me they started to think I was their mother so I had to run as fast as I could up the hill and away so they wouldn't follow me. We saw them later in the summer so we knew the y had made it. But we have way too many deer...
