I know how thw holes woek, but what do the green and red lines represent and how are they read? The red one's just waving back and forth and the green one jumps around when the music enters a new passage. Weird.

i think thoswe are where he used the sustainlever and the mutes. . . on old old pianos they didnt have fancy step on the lever itself and what not they had to ad the personality themselfs

@Crasyboy42 Some pianolas had extra holes at either side of the tracker bar to control the piano roll position, if the roll started to drift to the left or right it could drop down a semitone so two holes controlled the compensation mechanism, a few holes control auto rewinding of the rolls (on some pianolas) and on other pianolas there were two extra holes, one at the far left and one at the far right of the trackerbar - these controlled bass and treble.

You follow the green dotted line for volume and the red line for tempo. When the green line is over to the left you use the control levers to play the music soft, over to the right is louder. Other machines have a speed pointer arrow attached to the speed lever. You follow the red line with the pointer and the speed alters. Of course, yuo can make your own performance however you like and follow your own musical ideas instead. They're fun machines to play - totally interactive music!
