My dog has learned many tricks with this clicker, but as fast he he learns new tricks, he realizes when I don't have any treats with me, so he quickly loses the interest in the noise of the click.
There are a couple things to do in your case. First, once the behavior is learned, put him on a variable rate of reinforcement. So instead of getting a treat every time he does the trick, he gets one after two repetitions. Also you want to lose the treats once the behavior is learned. Try replacing the treats with a ball or favorite toy. Payment can be anything, praise, a thrown ball, etc.
In the case of my dog, I can imagine to give him a treat any scond time and so on, but if my dog sees a single chance to eat, he doesn't even know what a toy is... ;-}
awesome training video! I just started clicker training my dog here in France. It's barely established (as far as I can tell) as a method here, which is amazing. I found one woman here in the South of France who teaches. Took a 3 day seminar and can't stop teaching my dog new stuff! Your video helped me to reinforce some basics and remind me of a few principles I forgot. The 'dropping of the lure and the food reward' is a great tip... thanks again!
Me....I loved how he kept going to his toy box then coming to you as if to convey "Hey....YOU...shaddup and lets have some fun !"

Border Collies aren't really dogs - they're people in fur suits. They are so easy to train and so intelligent it's scary.

By the way:
FreestyleNW, are you the dog trainer who can be seen in the video?
Max is clever! I liked the part when he offers some other tricks he has learned in former times in order to get the click. He is really cute.

Yep that's me.

Nice
Just curious
Have you ever worked with a "Pit"?
tupper53 4 years ago
I haven't worked with a pit yet. Would love to though! I would imagine you could use tugging as a high value reward for most of them in training.
FreestyleNW 4 years ago
I`m sure that would do it.They love to tug.
There`s lots of great ones in rescue as I`m sure you know.
Lost my guy last Aug and they`re banned in Ontario,Canada but when we win(and we will!) in court,I`ll get another one.
I`m sure you`re aware of LawDogsUSA.
Ontario has one graduate,K9 Neville and we have another one going in January.
I donated his airfare in memory of my guy.
Watch for news of him.His name is Bandit.
We`re very proud of both of them!

I'm sorry for your loss. BSL is like dog racism.
FreestyleNW 4 years ago
Mine wasn`t lost to BSL,it was cancer.
But thanks anyway.
All Ontario pups are either being slaughtered or sent to Research.
A few are making it out due to Rescue groups.
Check out Pixie on my site if you`re looking for a Pit to train.
I sponsor her. She`s apparently very high energy and she MUST leave Ontario!
