Your observations about the TEDx comment stream are spot on. We planned for that form of comment stream on the day but unfortunately there were some last minute technical issues which prevented YouTube from integrating the twitter comment stream/ uploading our software. We had a number of people on the task on the day moderating the YouTube comments - but as you have observed, it's a challenge when there's no relationship history there. Fortunately, Twitter commentary was more informed.
What about using some system rather than twitter (maybe I don't want the comments on my twitter feed) to make people more accountable.
Is there a way, say with email registration that helps to make people more responsible for their comments. Yes I know it's not as good as twitter(as you mentioned) but with an email it would it be better than totally anonymous?
@Narbethong Yeah, we've used embedded chat programs (some come with bulletin board software like vbulletin), and also ask people to register ahead of time e.g. closed IRC chat channels. I think m0nty was talking abut coveritlive & someone else mentioned gsnap.com ? but I don't know that one. hope this helps. :)
