After talking to some friends, I can't believe how many people never made a visit to the fire station as a kid. No wonder the world is such a mess.
Kidding aside, I just thought it's something every kid gets to do. Most fire departments are happy to show you the trucks, and if you're lucky, they might let you see the living room and sleeping quarters, etc.
None of the fire stations I've visited actually had a pole. The kids were a little disappointed when they found out there wasn't one.
@neworleansjim Where I live the kids go to Safety Town when they are going into kindergarden Part of Safety Town they go to the fire station. I have been a volunteer for 3 yrs. Many of the kids say the fire station is their favorite day of Safety Town. They show them the trucks, the firehouse, and tell them what life in the firehouse is like breifly. They also get to hold a firehose. The station has a fake pole and the kids always want to go down it. Every kid should go to the station I belive.
