I believe the song was a rant about how people have no sense of fashion or style and ought to look at themselves in the mirror before going out. His role in the video is a highwayman, a criminal, suggesting that he is a rebel (confirmed by his criticism of the host at the dinner party which gets him almost hung), and that fact he mentions he can't find anything worth taking means he has no regard for the value of anything they find "good" to wear.
