  • Incredibly precise. Makes me want to either practice more or sell my guitar.

    This is FLAWLESS.

  • very very good amazing well done

  • man, Sungha, ill be in the crowd at all of your concerts!

  • this is awesooooome....

  • i wonder how i would sound on his amp and his guitar and even better how would i sound if i play with him one day cause i'm 13 and i'm a rlly big fan of sungha and one day i will come to south korea i swear to my life

  • I love this kid's fingerpicking, honestly.

    Just great :)

I don't know what people say when they say he doesn't show emotion. If you notice the subtleties in the way he sways while playing, and how his body moves, you can definitely notice how INTO his playing that he is. If that makes sense

  • Asians dont show much emotion in the face due to culture. We think it's unecessary to pull "expression" faces so that white people will approve of what we do. Most of our passion comes from the heart and through our actions. THIS little genius clearly loves what he's doing cos he works hard to get that good

Look at other asian fingerstyle arrangers on that Sungha gives dedication to: Masaaki Kashibi, Hiroshi Masuda & Rynten Okazaki as they are fukn geniuses and dont need false facial expressions

  • jewelsoei:

Thank you for saying what should have been said a long time ago. I've tried to point out the cultural differences between Sungha's people and other nations of the Far East, and the U.S. and Western Europe. But apparently there are a lot of people who refuse to make the effort to learn about Sungha and his background, and how he came to be interested in music, by reading the information about him on his and his dad's websites. Then they accuse his parents of being abusive.

  • Not necessarily true in all cases of course, I am one to make silly faces when i sing or play guitar. Lolol. It's an output of expression, of love for the music, or the feeling it gives us. It doesn't mean it's fake, everyone gives expressions when they're feeling a certain mood. :P

  • Hahaha, what do you want him to do? Jump or show his teeth in a forced ridiculous smile? I can see well enough from this and other videos that he enjoys playing. Please stop trying to make a showman of him. Let him just focus on the music.

Btw I even like this version more than the original...

  • iownjoo:

Quite a number of people have commented on Sungha's apparent lack of emotion. One possibility I have never seen mentioned:

Far Eastern cultures have generally emphasized the group over the individual. The individual is generally deemphasized. I think the extreme meekness and politeness we see so often in the Far East may be one result of that. If Sungha is a product of this culture it could explain his stoicism (very common in that part of the world). He is very shy.

  • Thank you. You're the only person I've come across on youtube thus far that hasn't suddenly jumped down my throat for voicing my opinion. You went on to explain yours, and I like that. Apparently I'm an asshole and an ignoramus according to everybody else on this video, haha.

    Take care.

  • you're an ignoramus. He's just focusing on his playing. What, you want him to be smiling or bouncing his head the whole time?

  • sigh, it's tough being asian and a musician. if you show too much expression, like lang lang, people accuse you of being a clown. if you're more subtle with your emotion, people start accusing you of being cold and mechanical. i don't know why but this problem appears to happen more frequently with asian musicians than with others.

  • duhhh86: well put. i think it's due to the fact that euros (esp. americans) can't make sense of our sensibilities and expressions. so guys like lang lang (yo yo) are generally well liked. and funny thing is that if blacks act like clowns it's cool (and sometimes they are, i.e. cool).

  • exelente estubo macnifico eres un gran guitarrista yegaras acumplir tu sueño sungha tienes mucho talento sigue asi impresinalos

  • god is smiling whenever this little man plays the guitar, and so do we who are blessed with the chance to hear angels!!!!!!!!!!!!! love this little angel!!!!!!

  • Good job on this one ;) and the other ones ofcourse. You are gifted for your life. I wonder how you look like in about 50 years.

  • sweet! thanks man

  • OMG that is so hard to play

and you make it look like piece of cake

  • OMG ! : O

    it's SOOO Beautiful !! ;p

  • This is one of his songs that I like best. I wish he could find the time to re-record some of his earlier songs now that he has more experience. I'll always be his fan :-)

  • 1:51 bridge

  • What happened? Was the guitar turned up more than usual or the amplifier set up louder? Well anyways, very good solid playing. I guess it sounded more "live" then you may have wanted it to be. Great playing Sungha!

  • Absolutely brilliant. Well done, kid.

  • 'sung' glasses xD

  • Sungha, I'm currently learning to play this song with Masaaki Kishibe's and your videos. I play along with you for the whole song, and when I get to the 2:29 mark I make sure I try to smile like you do.

And thanks to Masaaki Kishibe for writing such a cool song.

  • LOL, all the best in practicing and trying to smile like Sungha does ^^

  • groovy

  • Amazing!!!

  • Love the rhythm of this song. Its like he is playing bass, rythm and melody all together. Incredible.

  • that's the whole idea of fingerstyle guitar

  • Comment removed

  • you are amazing

  • This is a great song and played well, too. It's a shame that there are so few views, but then, it is hard to find. After I found it, I saved it as a favorite.

  • Nice ass guitar, played by a nice ass musician. Sungha's improved from the start, and i thought he was amzing then! :D Keep rockin my man

  • lol, nice ass musician..... i lol'd

  • What I love about Sungha (apart from his incredible talent) is that he shares it with everyone for free on youtube. Thank you Sungha!

  • so so TRUE, right on little man im 10 years older than you and i look up to you

  • It is important that we support these young stars whenever we get a chance. Preferably as much directly as possible so the money goes to them rather than parasites like WMG et al.

Attending their concerts (if possible) is another way.

Five stars also as always. Thanks for Mrs. Robinson also 2 days ago!

  • Both play and sound are Great! 5stars!

    I love Masaaki Kishibe's music,too.

  • nice

  • You are going to be a super star. My word that was awesome. Have a great weekend and keep playing your are the man. God bless you and your family.

  • very nicee

  • you looked at the camera! finnallly stopp being so serios LOOK AT THE END TALK TO USSS

  • Sungha did say 'Thank you' at the end of the vid where he plays Don Ross' 'Blue bear'!

  • Guitar: 200$

    Lessons: 30$

    Pausing at 2:32 = Priceless

  • Hi magichabs,

His Lakewood guitar is sponsored and cost around USD8000.

He is self-taught for finger style but used to went for classical guitar class though.

Yes, his smile and play = priceless. cheers Sungha : )

  • 8000usd ?

  • Yes 8000. I really want to stomp on that pickup and break the reverb knob. I want to hear this guitars real voice. When he plays Crazy and Hotel California it is pretty close.

  • I see .. a blue cuddly animal and a smiling Sungha!

    And I hear .. A beautiful song.

And I know .. You did a great job!

  • ita a pig :D

  • Awesome!! This time we caught a smile momentarily. I like to see a musician enjoy their instrument.

  • Hi, I like it like all the other ones!!! :D

  • super awesome dude!! i love this!

  • fantastic

  • bravo!

  • I keep comin' back to this one. Its got a hellava nice groove to it.

  • i luv your play!!!

    u r so good

  • BRAVO!

  • Great playfull song...

I like the original a bit more, because it is faster, you still get a perfect from me.

    :)

  • and please tell me what kind of tuning this is.

    dropped d and what else?

  • He has an open D tuning. I tried it. :) Bye :D

  • @theriven1 Tuning is D A D F# A D. And he uses Alaska Picks.

  • please, guys, tell me what type of pickup does he use? or may sungha tell me ? : ))

  • Nice! Can't wait to see what you learn to play next. If you ever so a concert tour in the US, I would definitely fly in to see you play... I hope you do some day...

  • Finger style is a "style" not a genre, He plays many different genres with the finger style, cause last time I checked, Erik clapton and pirates of the caribbean (both songs that he plays with this style) are not the same genre

  • i agree wiv igusbus........hear hear

  • you guys are idiots..he clearly states that he is learning finger style guitar..of course its one type of genre..cause its a specific style.

  • I wonder what would Sungha's parents would do if he put on an electrical guitar and went crazy with some headbanging metalcore riffs and the screamo! RAWR!!

    "No son!"

I wonder if this is the only style of music he likes. I don't mean to offend him or his fans, but I can't just listen to one genre.

  • lol, would be fun to see him thrash out some of Slash's music... but in honesty he could play anyhting he wanted.

  • Mhmm. Slash is amazing. G n' R.

Yeah, it is up to him to play whatever he wants, but his parents might not accept it.

  • i agree with u there although its good cant he play anything else

  • HmongYou2Tube: Is Sungha is limited to "one genre...." His 170 or so videos include: 1) Broadway (Moon River) 2) The Beatles 3) The Carpenters 4) Simon & Garfunkel 5) Country (The End of the World) 6) Music from the Philippines 7) Korean cultural music 8) Music by Japanese composers 9) Sungha's own compositions 10) Spanish music (Recuerdos)
  • HmongYou2Tube: (pg. 2)

I don't know how many of Sungha's videos you have examined. But doesn't the list show enough variety?

  • Thanks Sungha !!

    It's awesome..

  • I've just watched Masaaki Kishibe version of this song in utube. He is the composer, but Sungha's performance is much much better! I feel similarly with another video: Kotaro Oshio: "Tension". It is not pending for me: Shunga already is a real musician, not just an "infant prodigi".

  • lo he felicitado 1000 veces, ya dije que es el proximo David Gilmour, pero dejen descansar a ese nene!!!!!!!!!!

  • Kid, you never cease to amaze me. All I can say is "WOW". Keep loving what you do and doing what you love, it shows in your playing!

  • WOW

  • does he do lead and acompaniament at the same time?

  • this is all on 1 guitar and one take

  • yeah, that's his style. it's called fingerstyle. :D

  • Yup. :)

  • 2 : 32 << 귀여움 ㅋㅋ

  • request: cliffs of dover eric johnson

  • Great piece, but not sure it would translate well on A/E, even with the super piezo he's using. But would be interesting to see if he could pull it off without the sustain that Eric's Fender had.

  • Sungah is a guitar GOD!!!! Eddy Van Halen and Andy Mckee worship you at your feet!!

  • i dont know about all that...

  • pff anyone can do that.

    JOKE!!! u are insane :S

  • thank you sungha

  • one of my faveroites

  • why you mean id like yo see you make a vid and have more than 100 views

  • Just excellent as always. Thank you!

  • his smile is cute

  • wait how old are u again

  • 12!! and he's already been signing autographs :D

  • wow. you're good i suppose

  • I've always been curious... Who in the hell turned this little kid into a guitar god?!?!?

  • if u read the profile, his dad plays guitar really well, and Sungha wanted to play like his dad.

  • wow.. I just read it and thanks for telling me that.. but I'm pretty sure he's surpassed his dad I mean he wanted to play like his Dad 3 years ago and with super potential he has.. I'm really think he's probaby surpassed his dad lol .. well thanks anyway

  • A guitar god has to be able to play everything. He may be a accoustic guitar god. And who knows, maybe he does play a little rock haha.

  • I LOVE THIS KID. HE'S... AMAZING!

  • Really summer song... :-D ...absoulutely GREAT, young man... :-)

  • sounds great !

    I like .

  • im too stoopid to finger pick. my brain cant handle playing both rhythm and lead at the same time. i get way to confused.

  • Sungha, thank you for your great efforts, you speak a universal language, music. And thanks for the smile.

  • what is the friggin off key beep that sounds like a smoke detector every once in a while.

  • I think it's the sound the E2 string makes when he strokes it with his thumbpick.

  • Looove this!

    성하군 멋져요!
