Abstinence-only education doesn't teach kids about safe sex. I would like to answer your question to Slash as well. The state is allowed to restrict abortions from the second trimester on. An egg in the first trimester can hardly be called a "baby." A woman has this right simply because the government does not and should not decide what the woman does with her own body when a human life is not currently formed or at risk, otherwise the state could criminalize having kids when the woman is HIV positive and so forth.
Seeing as there is no scientific way to define when sentience begins, only philosophical, I don't think anyone has the right to push their philosophy on others.
As mentioned, the early stages of fetal development clearly aren't sentient by any scientific assessment, and clearly the latest stages are capable of survival. If I were to submit my own compromise, I would suggest limiting non-rape/danger abortion to before the time of the earliest surviving premature birth, currently 152 days.

Abstinence causes more harm than good, r u insane.
Of homosexuals questioned in one study reports that 43% admit to 500 or more partners in a lifetime, 28% admit to 1000 or more in a lifetime, and of these people, 79% say that half of those partners are total strangers, & 70% of those sexual contacts are one night stands. Also, it is a favourite past-time of many homosexuals to go to "cruising areas" and have anonymous sex.
This really sounds like what we all need.

In a survey of heterosexuals, 75% admitted to raping a person of the opposite sex at least once, and 20% admit to raping someone under the age of 14. Additionally, 41% of women admitted to having sexual contact with a dog, as did 35% of men.

Abstinence-only education doesn't teach kids about safe sex. It sets a trap by sending the message "if you have sex, THIS will happen," with THIS being STDs, pregnancies, trauma, etc. Of course, teens are sharp enough to call bullshit on that and are prone to experiment anyway (hormones), but without a proper education in safe sex, they're probably suffer the consequences. Stupid.

In 1964 a 15yr-old girl was raped, became pregnant, & decided to carry her unborn child to term. 5 months after the baby girl was born, in an act of courage & love the young mother provided her child a better environment by giving her to an adoptive family. That child was Pam Stenzel.
After her graduation from Liberty University with a degree in Psychology, Pam moved to Minneapolis, MN where she began to work with New Life Family Services. She thanks God that her mother never murdered her.

Unless you went through such an experience, you know nothing of what it's like to carry a reminder of a horrific experience inside you, let alone being forced (as you'd prefer) to carry it to term. I do not propose always aborting in such a situation; only the woman who underwent such a tragic experience can properly decide whether or not they can deal with the life-long repercussions (and if they want a child to be raised knowing of it), not radicals who carelessly toss about words like murder.

I wonder what happened to Stenzel's mother. I can't find a single story that documents what happened to her after the baby was born.
Pam is currently causing widespread harm across the country, delivering abstinence-only messages which have been shown to cause a lot more harm than good.

An egg in the first trimester can hardly be called a baby, oh come on, what is it then.
So a woman who misses her period & then gets a "pregnancy" test, what exactly is she pregnant with. I'm sure you know the term with child.
How can we humans be so disingenuos and sick to play with words and feel no shame or guilt about murdering thier own children.
And some of these same people are running around trying to save whales and Polar Bears.

Wow, masonwealth, don't we have a human superiority complex. Nature is far more powerful than we'll ever be. If the human race were to die out, within a few thousand years it would be as if we were never here. Nearly everything we've done here on Earth will have vanished. We serve no niche in the global ecosystem. "Playing with words?" Hardly. If destroying a rapidly dividing cell (that's all an embryo is) is murder, then I guess we should all get the death sentence for getting scrapes.

Even in a case of rape I would never muder the poor baby. You'll have a much better case in doing away with the rapist but never the baby.
If she dosen't want the babby their are a lot of adoption agencies around.

Yeah, masonwealth, our adoption system is truly a fine institution. *scoffs* Are you joking? Having a baby does far more to a woman than merely inflate her for the better part of a year. A woman never returns to who she was physically or emotionally after having a kid. And what if she's like 14 or dies in childbirth? "Sorry, we can't save you because we care more about the tiny blob inside of you with no functioning organs and no distinct shape more than we care about you."

You seem to assume the default position is that everything from in-labor infant to pre-implant zygote should be considered sentient life. Unless you have scientific backing for such an extreme claim---and you do not, as the matter is philosophical---the default position should be "nobody knows", and everyone minds their own business.
Incidentally, if you had the faintest clue what it's like to raise a child born of rape---through pregnancy and life---I think you'd shut your mouth pretty quick.

I would like to answer your question to Slash as well. The state is allowed to restrict abortions from the second trimester on. An egg in the first trimester can hardly be called a "baby." A woman has this right simply because the government does not and should not decide what the woman does with her own body when a human life is not currently formed or at risk, otherwise the state could criminalize having kids when the woman is HIV positive and so forth.

Seeing as there is no scientific way to define when sentience begins, only philosophical, I don't think anyone has the right to push their philosophy on others.
As mentioned, the early stages of fetal development clearly aren't sentient by any scientific assessment, and clearly the latest stages are capable of survival. If I were to submit my own compromise, I would suggest limiting non-rape/danger abortion to before the time of the earliest surviving premature birth, currently 152 days.
