  • This is an excellent video. I'm a new 1911 owner and I was curious about condition 1 carry. Thank you very much for sharing. :-)

  • Very well done. I'm with you on condition one.

  • It makes a lot of difference on several levels .It's not slightly easier...it's WAY easier. I own and carry one so I should know. It's also not rackable w/o kicking the safety off which you cannot have on with the hammer down. This means if I pull it I have to be in the habit of kicking it off first which a condition 1 or 4 carrier will likely not be. There are also several other built in precautions to what I describe vs what are presented as the conditions of ready mentioned here.

  • @malepipe whether the hammer is down or cocked makes no difference when the chamber is empty with a full magazine. The only difference it makes is its slightly easier to rack the slide when the hammer is cocked. And I do mean only slightly.

  • @malepipe yes you did miss something. The reason the Israeli military trains condition 3 is because they do not have a standard sidearm. They have many different ones they issue so to make it easier for training, they chose condition 3 because different pistols require different steps to make ready to fire. Whereas condition 3 is the same with every pistol. Meaning, condition 3 is easier to train soldiers to use, NOT more effective as a means of carry.

  • @shisno314 Condition 3 is hammer down.

  • Did I miss what I was taught as Israeli? Nothing in chamber, hammer cocked, thumb safety on. This makes chambering a round MUCH softer/easier because you are not overcoming the hammer and main spring yet remains very safe even if it gets taken from you. This is how I carry.

  • so nice!

  • will you marry me???

  • Excellent video and info.

  • Great Video ...

  • One of the best videos I've seen on this kinda thing. Thanks

  • @limalife I'm happy that you consistently referred to an unintentional discharge as a "negligent" discharge. I hate it when people say "accidental". Yes, it may be unintentional, but if you are following all of the safety rules, or even a combination of two or three out of the four, it wouldn't have happened. Ergo, you were being negligent with your firearm. Thanks for the video, I liked it!

  • Great video

  • Excellent video even for someone like me who has owned and used the 1911 for many years.

Clear and concise, I have always carried in condition 1. Nice Wilson

  • absolutely terrific! i can't wait until i can buy 1911s

  • Great video! Subscribed and Fav!

  • I am considering the new Ruger SR1911 but leery of the "cocked and locked" method of carrying. It shows my own lack of knowledge on the subject. This video clearly explains how safe Condition 1 actually is. Thanks so much for a much needed explanation of the safety workings of the 1911. Perhaps you could one day show us a video of the most safe way of unloading and decocking a loaded 1911 in condition 1.

  • perhaps you should get over to Tex Grebner's channel and give him some pointers because he shot himself in condition zero.

  • Nothing is cooler than a woman that carries a 1911.

  • @burzum6man

yea and this woman has a wilson combat 1911. thats...there are no words to describe epicniess of that magnitude.

  • @jlindseyx88 Get the fuck out pervert. Married woman here.

  • Nice video! It was really informative and i thought you showed the functions of the 1911 safety and firing system very well. It was the best i have seen.

  • OMG I about shit when you showed the hammer fall demonstrating condition 2. I gather you unleaded off camera?

  • @jamesjr934 unloaded*

  • @jamesjr934 She obviously mentioned that she was using "DUMMY" rounds at the beginning of the video.

  • @racer5e

I'm obviously a dummy for not catching that... :p

  • Great 1911 video, you have really helped me to understand how this gun works.Thank you from Spain.

  • Love a 1911 Woman!

  • Very informative. Nice job.

  • I like the way you say "Obviously."

  • I was qualified on the 45 Colt un 1927 (USMC). It has been years since I've fired a gun. I

  • I ,tell you it is crazy how much you know and we learn in watching youer video's..I enjoy them very much... You are a pretty knowledgable person on your topics. Keep it up.

  • I ,tell you it is crazy how much you know and we learn in watching youer video's..I enjoy them very much... You are a pretty knowledgable person on your topics. Keep it up. MRLUGNUTS

  • My wife flipped out the other day when she noticed I carry my 1911 cocked. I promptly queued up this video and let her watch. All is once again right with the world.

  • Most excellent video of the inner workings of the 1911, thank you very much

  • This is gun safety 101 @ its best. great vid. I felt like i my first grade teacher just gave me a gune safety class LoL.

  • Gun porn.

  • I normally carry in Condition 3. To me, Condition 1 can easily lead to accidental discharge if something bumps the safety, and the weapon is placed into Condition 2 without your knowledge. Its highly unlikely, but still possible. In most instances, if you just pay attention to your surroundings, you'll see trouble coming far enough ahead for you to draw your weapon, chamber a round, and engage the target.

  • @ThamelasStormrage why would it lead to an accidental discharge? 1911's have a grip safety also that has to be depressed in order to shoot. IMO there safer than double actions with in condition one. True you have to be awre of your surroundinding but that doesn't mean you always have the 2 or more min you need to rack the slide and get it on target. In condition one if your surprised somehow which can easily happen you only need 1 second to get in action.

  • @reesie0414 No offense, but if it takes you 2 minutes to rack the slide and get on target, you don't need to be carrying a weapon in the first place.

  • @ThamelasStormrageNo offense taken..i mean't seconds not minutes..lol

  • @ThamelasStormrageNo offense taken..i mean't seconds not minutes..lol. Typos happen from time to time but as you see in my last sentence i said seconds

  • Excellent illustration...thanks for spending the time to make a good video explaining how things works.

  • Perfect!

  • I don't like the use of the word Negligent (? sp) discharge as an umbrella term for an unintentional discharge. What happened to the word accidental? Not all ACCIDENTAL discharges are negligent.

  • @ShellyCyr. The courts with not buy that if you accidentally shoot someone. Why because if you were handling the gun properly it wouldn't go off.I Never heard of an accidental shooting where the gun was handled responsibly. Simply because if your not careless and are knowledgeble on how your gun works which you should be it can't go off.

  • It really is a beautiful gun. It's beauty comes from its olde simplicity.

  • wow have a wilson combat? nice!

  • Very thorough explanation. Thank you very much

  • Wow wow wow what a great video!!! This really helps us all understand how the 1911 works and ijust makes me appreciate the genius behind the 1911 all the more.

  • this is the most detailed and thorough 1911 video on you tube. outstanding!

  • I think you're already at a disadvantage when you have to use a pistol that requires you to take the safety off before using it. The Germans had it right 70 years ago when they came up with DA/SA system for semi auto pistols. The little bit of nicer trigger of the 1911 just isn't worth it compared to the safety and ease of use you get from DA/SA pistol. Just my opinion though.

  • love the info i open carry a double stack Springfield armory 1911 a1 hi cap custom

    with para p14 mags

  • wow thanks very informative used to carry on condition 2 now il do it on condition 1

  • Which Wilson combat is that? What length barrel?

  • Marry me. This is HAWT.

  • i m gonna buy a colt 1911 soon i have a tokarev tt30 can u plz suest me should i buy the double stak or the sinle one as i m the new to colt.. plz and thnks frm Pakistan

  • i m onna buy a colt 1911 soon i habe a tokarev tt30 can u plz suest me should i buy the double stak or the sinle one as i m the new to colt.. plz and thnks frm Pakistan

  • Condition zero would be insane if it weren't for the fact that 1911s have a beavertail safety

  • @fredjustsucks Thats how you carry a glock. Condition one, there is mo thumb safety.

  • @freeze427 Your finger is always the safety ...

  • @1InsideMan Agreed.

  • Most informative shooting video on youtube? You should write a book on 1911's.

  • I've been watching gun videos for several months, absorbing the info along the way, not owning a gun myself.

Thank you. A ton of interesting info here with historical references. Well done. Loved the close-ups, that was clear as day. Well done (a bit long, but I know the mechanism now, you did it right)

Love the 1911. Love it's history and the beauty of the design.

  • @redcollargedeon I've very glad that I could help you out. I know it's a little long but I really wanted to be as thorough as possible so there was no confusion.

  • @limalife Clear as day. Thank you!

  • Is it just me or are M1911s huge compared to your woman hands? Does all of these conditions have anything to do with single action or double action?

  • @Delta094204 All guns are huge in my hands..lol. These conditions are pretty unique to the 1911. Some people might try to borrow them for other firearms with safeties but not all points apply (obviously). So, for this purpose it's just for the 1911.

  • I was at Cabela's today and the guy I talked to said he doesn't consider the thumb safety to be reliable. Based on your great explanation and demo of the mechanism, I'm not sure why he said that. Do you know anything about that claim?

  • @filbertman Yes, I do.. I know that the guy you were talking to doesn't know what he's talking about. Yes, things can break but the thumb safety on the 1911 is extremely reliable and the best way to make the 1911 safe short of completely unloading it.

  • what is your everyday carry? 1911?

  • @samuel00cha Right now, yes, a 1911.

  • Another fantastic video limalife. I can always count on you for everything 1911. This video added to my favorites.

  • @mnyshrpknvs Thank you!

  • WOW! You can Really change the way you look from vid to vid! Great presentation.

  • Best explanation of carry conditions I've ever seen. Seriously.

  • Amazing video. Thank you! Pleasant voice too.

  • I'm impressed, this girl really knows her 1911. I think anyone who owns a 1911 should be this familiar with every thing she said and agree. If this was so it would prove that the 1911 it one of the safest (THE safest I know of) pistols to carry ready to fire that doesn't have a long double action trigger pull. And when mated with the right load of ammunition (mine seams to prefer most 230gr. FMJ factory loads) they are just as accurate and reliable as they are safe...

  • @ TheOpenSight- Let me guess... Nutnfancy & Hickok45 ?

  • Great Video! Very informative. There is a thumb safety available that decocks the hammer when the safety is engaged and when disengaged, it cocks the hammer as fast as you can flick the safety off. Im not sure of the name of this mechanism but i thought it might help somebody!

  • Nice video.

  • Outstanding!

  • looks like the only option you got was the bobtail

  • that was absolutely excellent! You make the best 1911 videos. You are one of my 3 favorite gun channels, guess the other 2! lol

  • Nutnfancy is almost definitely one. Id say, hmm, renegade410? although he is more law enforcement than guns(which is why i enjoy his videos).

  • Great educational video. Made me feel better about 1911s. The cocked position was the one thing that made me get a striker fire instead of a hammer fired gun. But this vid put my mind at ease. My next purchase will be a 1911.

  • @SilentShadow7r7 Glad I could set your mind at ease.

  • I carry a Jericho 941 .40 and a Glock 26 during the summer. I carry it in condition one all the time. Thanks to your video, I'll be shopping for a 1911.

  • I concael carry my SW1911 DK and have notice my safety comes off alot. I believe to be cause i use a soft hip holster is this usual. thanks

  • I don't buy into the "negligent" discharge vs a accidental discharge. The "negligent" discharge implies you have broken a law right from the get go, IMHO.

  • Excellent explanation of the thumb safety! I am now a subscriber. 5 stars.

  • @2002flstci Thank you!

  • Wow! great lesson. Especially seeing the demonstration of the sear, hammer and safety. Really helpful. Keep up the good work!

  • Great video.

The safety, sear, and hammer demonstration was very informative.

  • Great video. I carry my SA Loaded (and my GI before that) Condition 1 and I've never had a problem. Thanks for the video.

Now, do you recommend carrying my Desert Eagle Condition 1?

    Kidding...I'll stick with my 1911.

  • Wow! I must be using the wrong Google because mine didn't materialize the Springfield parts for me.. darn it if I didn't have to do that all on my own. Tell me where to get this magical Google. It would make things so much easier.

  • lol

  • I love that Wilson!! so nice..

  • Very informative and very well done. I really enjoyed this vid. Thank You...

  • Fantastic Vid, keep em comming.

    Extremely well documented.

  • Congrats! at showing a generation of youth how to properly load and handle hand guns wow just amazing oh my goodness I can think of no instance where this information may one day lead to some pretty bad consequences. But I fucking loved every damn second!

  • Wow! This was extremely educational. Thank you for taking the time to make this vid.

  • Great video. Refreshing to see a woman with so much firearm knowledge. Keep up the good work.

  • where did you learn that much about firearms?

  • Very good video I like the demonstration of the sear hammer and thumb safety very nice for someone not versed in the operation of a 1911, and a good visualization for someone that is. 5*s

  • Great video. Lots of info. I especially liked the detail you showed of the relationship of the sear, hammer, thumb and grip safeties. Thanks.

  • Nicely done video. I really like the pad you use with ruler measurements under the guns. I gives you a quick idea of sizes of items. Great idea.

  • thank you for the video. it was extremely valuable!

  • excellent video. I really liked how you used the stripped 1911 to explain how the 1911 works. I have already shown this video at work where some people only know glocks. Thanks again.

  • Good video

  • damn ur smart

    ☆★☆★☆

  • Splendid!! This was as much about avoiding mecanical damage as gun safety. Is condition one acceptable when not actively shooting at the pistol ranges? Could you please provide similar safety videos for semi autos like ?Glock, H&K and/or S&W? Thanks alot!!

  • Yes, C-1 is perfectly acceptable outside of the range and target practice. Most importantly I have tried to show that C-1 is the safest carry condition outside of having your firearm completely unloaded and stored but in the end it has to do with the shooter/owner. Usually I tell people that if they are uncomfortable with the 1911 then there are a million other pistols out there that might suit them better as it's better to carry a firearm they are comfortable with than improperly carry another.

  • I'd love to do this with a Glock. I'm saving up my pennies to buy my first one and hopefully I'll have one sometime this year.

  • Outstanding!!!! Thank you for this great video.

  • Very innovative, and informative. You have an incredibly analytical train of thought, and you are very thorough. By far the most knowledgeable female firearm owner I know of. I think you can officially be called a guru.

  • Thank you for the comments. I wouldn't consider myself a guru but I appreciate the thoughts. It seems I learn something new every day and I relish the opportunity to do so.

  • Absolutely excellent, Lima!!! This is THE most informative 1911 video on this whole website. Thank you for taking the time to explain the workings of the pistol in such great detail. Keep up the great work :)

  • Your videos keep getting better and better. Keep up the great work

  • Thanks.

  • very nice and informative video,ma'am

    thanks !!!

  • what is it called when there's a chamber empty, hammer at rest, loaded magazine, and put on safety?

    ...and is this recommended?

  • That is not one of the 1911 conditions. The thumb safety can only be engaged with the hammer cocked due to the sear/hammer placement. Condition One is the only condition wherein the thumb safety can be used and it is the most recommended condition of carry.

  • @limalife

oh i get it now, thanks!

  • All time best video thanks a mil for putting in the time

  • VERY VERY GOOD VIDEO!!!

  • Do you think it's better for a left handed person to carry condition one or two?

  • Condition One with an Ambi safety. I never advocate condition 2 carry. Like I said because, if someone is dead-set on carrying that way I can't't stop them I'll only beg them to reconsider and make sure they have a VERY VERY safe area to point the firearm at while putting their firearm into C-2.

  • Nevermind no I know why you gutted it.

  • Why'd you gut the Springfield?

  • Good video Lima. Excellent info especially like the demo with the hammer etc. Oh by the way...had a coupon for corn dogs today when I went grocery shopping...thought of you!

  • ROFL.. Thanks for thinking of me. I will forever be known as the corndog lady around here it seems. :D

  • Great explanation. But if I'm not at the range and I get below Condition #1 --I don't think about conditions just survival.

  • great video!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • very good info i also carry condition 1 with my 1911 but my glock i rack the slide to chamber a rd

  • Limalife says condition 1, cocked and locked is good for her say good enough for me.

My little girly man LCP does not have any of this. It's single action. The only thing that keeps it from firing with a round in the chamber, is the pull of the trigger. I guess it would be considered condition 2.5 using the scale for the 1911. My 38sp revolver is also single action and also has no safety except the trigger. The new Ruger SR9c Compact 9mm has all the similar 1911 safety features.

  • Actually, the LCP is a Double-Action ONLY pistol, as are most of the pocket .380 pistols. The trigger in a DA both cocks the action and then releases the trigger at the break point. I think you are confusing "no manual safety" with "single action" ... not the same thing.

  • Thanks that is what I ment to say double action. Cheers I was just coming back to delete the post, but I'll leave it.

  • No harm, no foul ... I do it all the time, lol.

  • HAHA.. When I was first getting into pistols I got SA and DA confused all the time!! It drove everyone nuts... including me! No worries.

  • I never knew there were 5 conditions...

    thanks lima

  • also a bump to the hammer of a 1911 in condition 2 that doesn't have a firing pin block will transfer the bump right to the primer, and it won't take much to have an ND

  • Actually, no. That is not the case. Once the hammer is down in C-2 there is no fear of an AD as the hammer is resting completely against the firing pin stop and there can be no transfer of energy as there is no movement of the hammer. Also, the firing pin is held back from the primer from the firing pin spring. Once in C-2 the 1911 is perfectly safe... it's getting it to C-2 that is dangerous. ;)

  • Interesting. Read a story about a guy carrying a Colt Defender in his jacket pocket C2. Turned around and the pocket bumped a wall and discharged.

Could be there might have been some wear on the hammer.

  • If you have a link to the story I'd be very interested in reading it. I certainly am not one of these people who is not open to change my mind and I love learning in all things but I want good sources and the chance to examine all the fact. As it stands, I don't see how that is possible but I'm willing to look into it.

  • You didn't fail to impress.

So much detail in showing it, really that was over the top and I am impressed.

Really easy to grasp the concept and especially that multiple camera angles you did, you gave me more than I expected with that.

If I was like the mythological creature that Sheva was, I would give you 6 thumbs up :P

  • Thanks for the 6 thumbs up...lol

  • This is a really excellent piece of work. You are a very good instructor, and the video is clear and professional. Great job with the exploded-parts demonstration. Thanks!

  • Thank you!

  • that demo of the thumb safety was very interesting im very interested in mechanical things and how stuff works to do what it does so ive been studying the design of the 1911 and ive never seen it demonstrated like you just did and everything just clicked thanks lima!!!

  • What iamcondescending said goes for me as well. Thanks, Lima

  • Thanks. I'm glad I could help you out! Some of that stuff was confusing to me as well until I got to take it all apart and work the pieces and, you're right, when you see it all like that it does kind of click and you think, "My GOD, John Moses Browning was a GENIUS!!"

  • @limalife that he was lol if theres just one thing americans do well it's firearms

  • what 1911 do u think ur self is the best meanin the way its mad an how well better tirgger pull an the easy way to shot being on target ? i hade a colt 1911 comander blued but sold it back to my dealer for $1100 his wife wanted it os bad i only payed $600 4 it an yes it was new i never got to shot it

  • There are lots of great 1911s out there.. There are also some not so good ones. I hate to name the best because I haven't shot them all and I hear tell there are some fabulous 1911s out there just waiting for me! :D

I usually say that Springfield is a good place to start though.

  • well thanks i cant wait to get a nother colt i want a set of twins to have a in a shadow box 4 every1 to c an then the kids can have them when there of age but the gf dosent like that idea lol

  • Fantastic video Lima!

@JaySkuh A signed certificate from God? Try living in Australia mate. You need to successfully convince Cuba to become a democratic nation before you'll even get into the psych evaluation. :P

And I am pretty sure that Concealed Carry is totally outlawed here... You're only allowed up to a max calibre of .38 and it can only be used for home defence... and kept at home.

    YAY FOR US.

  • Excellent! Thanks.

I like the foam part :-)

  • That is by far the best demonstration of 1911 safety and proper carry. I can't say enough. GREAT job.

  • Great video! I didn't know all those conditions!

  • great video lima keep up the great work

  • Another incredibly informative video! Sticking parts into foam board was inspired.. who needs CGI? I'm in the market for a 1911, and your series on the models and their features is invaluable. I'm more and more an informed and safer shopper with each video.

  • Haha.. I was actually going to make a larger scale drawing of the sear/hammer because I didn't want to get hit with copyright infringement for other stuff I've found. I got lazy so I did the foam board instead and found it to be a lot better. I was happy with how it turned out.

    Thanks for the comments.

  • Excellent video! Very easy to understand. *****
