Another ad I saw had random teens with grunge music (and occasional game footage... of Acclaim games :P ) with the message "Give the world a wedgie!"

Seeing as online console gaming was barely existent at the time... WTF were they thinking?

Ah, the 90's. I've got nothing against blatantly stealing a Monty Python gag, but it does seem a bit inappropriate for a Yoshi's Island commercial. I guess Nintendo's marketing team was trying to be all "cool" and "extreme" and didn't care whether the commercial made sense. I guess it's sort of like how now everything is "fun family time!" when the game you're advertising is Metroid Prime 3.
