  • I didn't know there was such a thing as a Peacock praying mantis. It has the barring and the eye wing (not sure of the terminology) of an India blue peacock. Neat. I used to pick them up all the time when I was a kid. Never was afraid, never was bitten. But I always wondered if they could bite or sting. Nice to see someone caring about God's little insects.

  • When is someone gonna copy this video and add karate sounds?

  • im laughing so hard that is really cool man lol

  • pretty peacock! but dont do it to much or she'll start to not like you :(

  • those eyes of his are gorgeous. You're a lucky person! It's sad that people kill other's pets because they aren't fluffy or 'cute'. I wouldn't be able to handle insects as a pet, though. Mostly because of phobic reasons, but i love it when people care for nature like this.

  • The Camera man would say to the mantis... " You will never get this, Lalala" And everyone laugh. But one time the mantis broke the cage and he get this.

  • Could be the reason that inspired a group of ppl to create praying mantis kung fu.

  • Why does this species seem more aggressive than the others i have seen. May be a dumb question to you but i have just now learned they are kept as pets. I thought i was the only one. I have one in my yard named Mister myagi. He stays around my porch.

  • evil but cute

  • it has a muay that stance xD

  • He's boxing..

  • wow you just made that mantis royally pissed off

  • kung fu panda ftw

  • do they bite?

  • Kinda cute really...

  • It's Rocky training for his next match :D

I would love a Violin Mantis. But this isn't one of those xD

  • @darthelghastN7 You bring up a good point. It is natural to be afraid of unknown things. It's too bad that most Americans can't name ten bugs in their backyard. Even adults can't name the plants and insects in their yards, these days. In this case, it must be a really scary world out there, eh? Better then that they just stay inside playing video games and watching TV.

  • golden gloves boxer

  • Is that one of his wings at the bottom of the cup?

  • lol its about to box you out lol

  • that is the funnyest mantis you will ever see

  • can they fly? D:

  • Muhammad Ali reincarnated

  • @TheUmps777 haha and he aint even dead yet, that's how good he is

  • was that his mccauly culkin impression.

  • More than any other insect group, people can relate to mantises because they exhibit a great (appearance of) awareness of their environment. They have large eyes and they turn their heads to observe the moving things around them. Beetles aren't scary like toothy, scratchy dogs and cats!

  • @bugsincyberspace would rather a dog as a pet any day not scary whatsoever

  • @bugsincyberspace Do you ship to all states in the U.S.A? I'm thinking of buying a mantis or something.

  • Insects/arachnids usually really bother me (even to look at on pictures/video), but I've never had the same reaction to Mantises. Is there something different about them? I can't put my finger on why they creep me out infinitely less (pretty much not at all - I catch them and let them crawl on me, in fact) than any other insect species. Even the ones that are completely harmless creep me out more. Y'know, beetles and such. It's the legs that do it. So unnatural.

  • That insect is so beautiful! I have never seen one of those. Where is this peacock mantis located?

  • Lol mantis is like get some B***h

  • That mantis needs to work on his reflexes.

  • he looks like he is boxing lol

  • he looks like he is boxing lol

  • Do you have Skype

  • Have you ever been bitten from a praying mantis ?

  • @xonweb I've actually never been bitten, though I've been struck by their forearms numerous times. Other people do report very occasional bites or strikes, but blood is rarely drawn. All of these incidents are preventable, of course.

  • @bugsincyberspace Yikes does it hurt ? I'm supposed to be getting a couple of

    shield mantis this week

  • @xonweb It's more startling than painful. You could have ordered those shield mantises from me, ya know;-)

  • @bugsincyberspace there is only one problem Peter you don't ship to Canada

I've talk to you before remember

  • @bugsincyberspace Hi I finally received my Shield mantises I'm impressed they made it though customs

  • @xonweb

I have been bitten by one of the smallest mantises in the world, it grabbed my pinkie luckily it didnt draw blood it felt like a paper cut

  • That's mean teasing he doesn't look very impressed

  • @xonweb "Mean" suggests that either I had negative will towards the mantis or the mantis was emotionally or intellectually offended by my actions. In fact, neither of these were the case. I demonstrated to the audience the impressive nature of this animal. The mantis reacted several times in a natural and healthy way. A hot stove is not mean to your hand, nor does it require a thoughtful mind to pull one's hand away. Interpreting reality accurately, however, does require some ability to think.

  • @bugsincyberspace Hey I'm interested in buying a full grown mantis please get back to asap

  • @bugsincyberspace Ha ha ha, I like the cut of your jib, good sir!

  • @bugsincyberspace. very well said Mr Xonweb. Cool mantis. I want one

  • @xonweb Mantises will show their threat display if they are either startled or threatened, but that stems from their perception and not one's intent. I have a mantis that will do a threat display if she sees the shadow of my finger move along the rim of the kritter keeper, but will readily climb onto my hand and interact with my moving fingers without any problem. I'm sure this species gets startled but is otherwise calm when acclimated to a human hand.

  • its mike tyson!

  • wow he/she looks fucking pissed.....am i a bad person for laughing at this stuff?

  • They are very easy to care for and usually live for about a year under normal care conditions. And yes, absolutely beautiful! Thank YOU!

  • Awesome. Got about three weeks to go before my female will be ready to mate. Got two males at the ready...lol

  • In a captive universe some stress is actually a good thing! Feel sorry for dogs that get to go on a "leashed" walk for at most ten minutes each day...some older lady tugging at its throat each time it tries to leave the sidewalk.

  • that's not right!

  • impressive mantis, poor thing dont stress it to much !!!

  • my two nymphs just arrived today , cant wait for them to grow to full size

  • be careful hehe^^

  • :O I didn't know mantis could box!

  • Hi Bugsincyberspace.

This is soooo like off the scale beautiful!!!!

Are they difficult to keep? How long do they live for?

    Thnx.
