the earth has warmed up? It has been known for a while that that is based on false data and the world hasn't actually warmed up at all. Climat shifts are quite normal and there have been numerous in the earths history with evidence left behind everywhere to be found. There is up to date not a single schred of evidence that humans have a bad effect on the climat. All suposed data has been falsified.
For crying out loud... Ben I'm being assaulted by the look of that yellow frog ur driving around in, also, ur sense of fashion. Don't even get get me started on "what is the meaning of 1 degree"? Cuz I've just wasted 18 minutes on it.
I enjoyed this. I like your spirit. Those commenters who didn't like it just didn't get it - couldn't go deep enough ;)
Something that wouldn't be central, but would certainly be interesting to mention is that all the planets in the solar system are experiencing global warming. That's mind boggling, too. The data is out there, but is not being shared in the major media. I give up on those guys.
@TheseEyesGod I don't understand what's so mind-boggling.... The sun is more active so the planets warm.
Also, after about 30 other physics programs, this one leaves me bored. I feel like he's leading me like a child. It is the opposite problem of not being able to go deep enough. This program is paper thin.
Well - I guess I can see it from your perspective, too. Clearly, you're more mind-based than I am - I live in heart, which is really different.
It's not the science, it's more the philosophy underlying, the basic question - what is heat? It's only something we can measure - not truly understand. If the sun is truly so hot, then the closer we get it should get hotter, right? Yet it doesn't. It gets frigid cold, 1st
Then, too, it's much hotter above the sun's surface
...surface than on it. And, if the center of the sun is hottest, then the openings, the coronal holes, should be hotter, yet - but they're not
We neither know when temperature is not what processes run the stars. I say they're much more likely electromagnetic than nuclear. See? It's more the "what" underlying things that excites heart - not so much the science that's offered. Actually, I can see how the science is a bit thin, here. So, just different perspectives.
@TheseEyesGod Cool. I would take a look at the field of spectroscopy if I were you. It's really interesting, you should like it. We are farther along than you might think in reading the makeup of stars by seeing where the absorption lines are in the spectral analysis.
It's absolutely fascinating. Time and again we see that the size of the star is a reliable predictor of what that star's makeup will be. Fusion is one of the well understood processes. Electro-magnetism works at greater distances.
Yes, I've noticed that, and you're right - it's fascinating.
Still, underlying much of our science are wrong assumptions. No theory lasts more than 20 years, but by the way the basic ones have become dogma, you'd think they were eternal. Have you heard Nassim Haramein speak? He's got some great insights on this.
Then, there's Thunderbolts of the Gods - heard of that? Check this out /vimeo*com/16256646
@TheseEyesGod I was a born-again. I will never go back to religion.
"Still, underlying much of our science are wrong assumptions."
I found that to be an assumption in and of itself. Yes theories get refined and even overturned but at least science can be falsified. God can never be falsified. Man designed Him that way.
Well, I've provided some substance for my assumption, at least. It's not all that vague.
Oh, I do love that last line of yours, and find fun in what you say - "God can never be falsified. Man designed him that way." Lovely tongue-in-cheek on anthromorphism, which is rampant.
Ah, but ain't life grand, overall? I must admit I do find it that way =D
I have truly enjoyed you, here. Thanks so much for engaging me - for speaking out. It is such fun to start with (supposedly) diverse or different views, then have an exchange. One never knows what the outcome may be, and if it's two people like us - respectful, etc - well, both are blessed in the end. I feel that way.
I don't know the song, but I echo the sentiment. All we can do is our best with what's right in front of us. The beauty, as I see it, is that's enuf.
@TheseEyesGod I see. I think the weirdest thing to me is absolute zero and how we can supposedly never reach it. If heat is jiggling atoms and absolute zero is where ALL 'jiggling', even the minutest vibrations stop.
What would happen? Would the universe crack like a sheet of ice and spider like a windshield?=) Science says that atoms can never stop moving, if only VERY slightly. Who knows? Not me. They also say there is no absolute state of rest ANYWHERE. The earth, sun, galaxy, all moving..
Ah, you DO see - that's just my sort of question, too. It gets down to "what is movement," doesn't it? They say nothing ever really moves - that it's just popping in then popping out then popping in all the time - like frames in movie film. Supposedly movement, itself, is an illusion. Maybe absolute zero ties in to that?
Movement is always relative. If we don't have something to measure against, what is movement? That sure locks us into duality - subject & object. Hmm.
@TheseEyesGod Yes it's true. If there was only one object, (hypothetically) say a person.... that person could not be deemed to be moving OR maybe more accurately (IDK)
that person just couldn't tell if they were moving.
As soon as you introduce a 2nd thing/person, both can judge movement now. Very strange. I think there's a clue there into what we call expansion. I don't see space itself as expanding, I just don't buy that one. Big bang theory leaves me disappointed. Its like religion now. LOL
Yes, very good. And the same on the big bang thing. Sure, it may have happened that way - but not as an isolated or one-off event, imo. There's got to be more. And you hit it on the head about science - I've done a couple of vids on how it's become much more like a religion. People don't realize it unless they take a few steps back and have another look. The evidence is really there.
Ben Miller has done a wonderful job in communicating to the average person, by taking us through his personal journey of discovery.
As a bonus he just happens to drives around in the car of century!

@TheseEyesGod You win because I can't argue there. ... And that's the whole point in the end. Let's enjoy the ride.
Reminds me of an appropriate line from a song I know:
"I might be going to hell in a bucket baby, but at least I'm enjoying the ride, AT LEAST I'M ENJOYING THE RIDE"....
That was from the book of Jerry, one of the great prophets IMO.... =)
