  • This is so disappointing, they've gone so downhill since El Cielo.

  • one way or another it still sounds like Dredg, just a creatively evolved version of them. I've always had a soft spot for Catch Without Arms and El Cielo, but this to me was still rather enjoyable. Less abstract, but still artistic in it's own right.

  • This isn't rock. This is pop music.

  • If all of their albums sounded the same, what would the point of there being multiple albums? Why not just take their best song and put thirteen copies of it on each identical album?

Personally I think all of their albums "sound like" dredg without all sounding the same. And that's okay.

  • You know, this album is starting to grow on me.

  • @ObeseChess I didn't like much of dredg's albums to start with, even though I'm a huge fan, but you begin to slowly come round to love them :) Everything after Leit Motif is hard to compare with. Each album is unique and individual in it's own right with it's own sound and meaning. Though I have to say many bands have let me down in their later years... There's more lyrics and less of the sounds we grow to like. So it's like coming off drugs in a way lol but you soon convert ;)

  • "an artist must be ruthlessly selfish". It may sound brutal from a fan's perspective, but it's so true. Once you start letting things like "what would people think about this" worry you, then it's not coming from a real place. - Teppei Teranishi of Thrice.

  • @TheHaterOfUTube Good call, both Thrice and Dredg have evolved significantly with every album.

  • Lietmotif was really the only album i really cared for from them. It was more abstract and artistic, which was their strongsuit.

  • well...i lose her...

but i found Dredg today and now life is not the same ^___^

  • After the first album I heard from this group being Leitmotif, this is pathetic

  • Dredg is in Turkey now, tomorrow they will perform in İstanbul..

  • Any expert of music should know how rapidly styles change. All these so proclaimed "experts" saying that this record just doesn't compare need to seriously bring themselves back down to earth.

Yes, Chuckles is a strange album as far as dredg's discography goes, but I think its great to see them bring out something different. They still have that same unique feel, and if you've lost that, then maybe you've outgrown them and need to find someone else to listen to instead.

Oh, and I <3 this song.

  • @Infernitorn The biggest difference between this and former dredg, is the LACK of "different". This sounds like any other song you might here from, say Franz Ferdinand

  • @drakan80 If it was honestly that easy to find this sort of sound, I would've started listening to Franz Ferdinand or the like years ago, as it were, there is a HUGE leap between the two, its ridiculous to assume otherwise just because you personally dislike the sound.

  • I love them! And I welcome their journey and go with their flow of change..

  • 55 people have standards

  • @migglesify The reason that you don't like this album is because you probably aren't a fan of change. Dredg is a band that wants to expand their horizons and don't want to come out with the same repititious jargon that every band in the mainstream comes out with. Dredg is simply too creative.

  • what a load of rubbish spouted by some people. as circuitrider says, follow the band on their journey or stop listening. absolutely incredible band, and every single one of their albums has been a masterpiece in its own right (admittedly havent heard much of mr chuckles as of yet)

  • @NeoNeonCircuitRider Perfect words

  • i used to be a huge fan of this band.....i am amusician and understand how we can grow musically but sorry the last 2 cds are going in a very very wrong direction....changing style doens t mean been sell out but sometimes can be done with bad taste and dredg have bad taste recently... the vocals generally and the lyrics are such a waste of money for them and for us.they are loosing fans and not getting any.

  • I only started listening to Dredg.. literally, this year. I went through their entire discography in order.... with this one being the last. Of course, I got stuck replaying Catch Without Arms.. NUMEROUS times... Maybe I don't have all the years of love to affect my judgment, but.... I really like this album.

  • I can't believe that the same band that release El Cielo also released this record. I just can't believe.

  • @Frooshie1

Believe it bud. Not everything has to have deep meaning. This song is better than 99% of what is considered "popular" today. And although it doesn't have the same repeat listening power as some of their other songs it doesn't diminish their integrity in any way.

  • who cares...everyone's a critic

  • who cares...everyone's a critic

  • I love how people still don't get dredg. The band's concept is change, both artistically and personally. So many people complain that artists cater to what they're fans want to hear. A painter doesn't paint the same thing over and over again to keep people coming back, the same goes for musicians, they evolve. And that is what dredg does, it evolves with the tastes of the artists involved.

  • @chibot1 Exactly how do people think they can tell Dredg what Dredg should be? They are the only ones who can define that.

  • who is the cover girl?

  • wth happened? this sounds like shitty euro-pop.

  • I HATE PEOPLE

  • people are really disliking this? bands change.. ppl should too

  • This album definitely isn't their best but it grew on me especially after hearing the songs live.

  • Repetitive boring and bland

  • I don't care what anyone says this is just as good as their previous material. I LOVE IT!

  • WTF??? what the hell happened with this band, are they trying to become american coldplay. This is just sad.

  • For some reason I'm picturing myself as a 18 year old girl, singing along and shaking my hair around while checking my Facebook.

    I'm so prejudiced.

  • Watch out Lady Gaga!

  • Easy-listening song

  • Wow.. I didn't expect there to be an album out so soon. It's been a little less than two years since their last one, and if going by the past is anything, Dredg generally waits longer between releases. Anyways.. I'm off tomorrow--I know what I will be buying (and listening to)!!

  • Great Concert here in Madrid! Besides some problems with the sound, most of them when a guest played with the group, I must to say this band is one of the best. They propose new things all the time, like the best musicians, and nobody who wants to live in the past can understand their creativity, their evolution like artists. Cheeeeeeeeeerrrss for them.

  • @migglesify Now come on. I understand people's distaste with Chuckles (though I like it), but are you really calling The Pariah The Parrot The Delusion garbage? . . . . really??

  • @muzik313 applause**

  • What happened to this amazing band? Leitmotif and El Cielo were their best by far but I felt Catch Without Arms also represented Dredg at their most mature. Now they have declined to this wishy washy music that conveys complacency and de-evolution more than progression and innovation..

  • F**k the video recorder,no playback on iPod touch?f**k

  • I think this band might have hit their high water mark early. How fucking sad is it this is probably the best track on the album. Yikes.

  • I think, the music of dredg is like a funeral..

and they are before the linkin park concert in germany..

    thats really really bad :|

  • @LP1324

  • @LP1324

hab ichs mir doch gedacht :D

  • I am listen to music bands like deftones, bloc party, old things of dredg. The tenor seems to be, that the album is a really bad one. But after listening to this song, I have to say, that it is (and in my situation) an earworm! No matter what other say.

  • This is Lance Bass gay....

  • it's not that bad.. :)

  • I feel they may have peaked after Leitmotif and El Cielo. Guess they couldn't catch lightning in a bottle again. If you think Gavin's vocal are good on this, you'll be in for a great time with those two albums.

  • @ManaSpryte Trust me I love me some El Cielo and Leitmotif, but Gavin's vocals, especially on Leitmotif, were so obviously underdeveloped. That's really what I enjoy about the newer release (CWA - Now) is how clean Gavin's voice has become.

  • @muzik313 I agree with you that Gavin's vocals were a little rough on Leitmotif, but that's what made the album what it was. I think of it as a "Rough Draft" to El Cielo. My biggest problem with this album isn't Gavin's vocals but Dino's great drum tabs are missing in action. It seems like it's been replaced with an annoying synthesizer. Am I the only one to notice that? And it's not that I completely hate the album, It was just disappointing for dredg standards.

  • @muzik313

Did you ever listen their first EPs? Listen to this: /watch?v=PhFDzXu1J9w

Maybe you don't like the way he sings, but even when he was 20 (i think) his voice was awesome.

  • @muzik313 His voice is clearer, the issue I think Mana is having is the lyrical development. In the earlier albums Gavin was very selective with his lyrics and meanings. (Think Maynard) I've noticed in recent years he has been more direct with his meanings and the band has followed a more simplistic, yet refined sound. I will agree that his vocals have gotten much much better, but he has also stuck with one sound. Go listen to any of the songs from orph, you'll see what I mean. -Dredg Child

  • @muzik313 It's call a computer also.... El Cielo and Leitmotif were raw albums, Gavin just uses technology like everyone else to sound beter. "Underdeveloped" is always what I loved about their older music.

  • @ManaSpryte Y'all faggots need to quit putting your own expectations onto artists. It's fairly fucking pathetic.

  • @streatcarp Wow, what an educated comment. Your parents must be so proud of you. Its called creative criticism, look it up you pathetic troll.

  • El Cielo is their crown jewel...hopefully their next album will reflect those roots.

  • This sounds like it could be off of Pariah... Except nowhere as good. I was really looking forward to seeing them for a third time... THANK YOU DREDG FOR SUCKING.

  • i felt raped after hearing the album..... its not bad but its not what made dredg an amazing band,

  • It's cool to crap on this album, I for one, enjoy it.

  • Does anyone know what happens when you put the album into the sunlight? When i went to best buy to see what the new album looked like in person, there was a sticker on it that said if you put it in sunlight you would "experience the full artwork" or something to that extent.

  • @computergeeq Put it under a blacklight ; )

  • @statikx1

Does the whole thing light up under it, or just those lines coming out from the lady figure in the middle? I almost want to buy the cd just to see what it looks like xD

  • @computergeeq I'm not sure. I just heard that it works under a black light.

  • after all this pain.....sing.....wonderful lyrics ....:))

  • "HEY...." what´s your problem ? This is a nice

    song with good lyrics !!!!!

  • But their earlier albums were better, i'll admit.

  • Yeah idk what you guys are talking about. I enjoy most of the Dredg albums. but don't be so harsh about it. I enjoy their new album even though the name is Fucking wierd. Lol lighten up.

  • Kerstin??

    Ich liebe Dich!!

  • everytime i listen to this, i feel ashamed of the 2 dredgshirts in my closet...

  • I like it!

  • I dunno guys I fell in love with Cartoon Showroom and R U O K, and Stamp of Origin: Ocean Meets Bay, their last album was just as artistic and original as say "El Cielo.." perhaps thats a rash overstated idea but it actually sounds fair enough when you compare it to this...Where's the genius guitar ear-candy? Where's the epic trancy-ness, where is the ART?

  • dredg was always one of my favourite bands and I.. I don't know what I'm thinking about their new album songs like information, catch without arms (acoustic), bug eyes (acoustic), and ode to the sun are really wonderful songs, but their new album... it's so difficult.. dredg wanted to change and they have also managed, but I don't know what to make of it. Nevertheless, Dredg is one of my favorite bands, no matter what.

  • Dredg needs to come to florida because my friends and family always says this band is by looking at me big time. Always hear that they sound good in person but I don't think for dredg to open for a concert.

  • Rock im Park 2011

  • To me, this band has really taken a left turn. I'm not sure whether they were bored, or just wanted to do something drastically different, but the repetitive vocals and electric drum beats on this album definitely doesn't feel like the same band to me. I listened to the new record, declined to purchase it and went home and listened to Pariah. I'm all about a band growing, but the song structure and general feel of this album seems to me to be a downgrade.

  • die spielen bei linkin park hoffentlich wird das kein reinfall

  • Dredg as opening act at Linkin Park concert in germany, hope they are good =D

  • I've always used songs from Dredg in my own singing repertoire to improve, as most of them are beautiful examples of masterful vocal work (e.g. Cartoon Showroom, where Gavin pretty much makes the song). But after listening through the new album, there's nothing on it which appeals to me in the same manner. Quite disappointing.

  • @GregCathalina Really? What about Kalathat? Gavin's vocals on that track are outstanding.

  • @muzik313 I find that track too mellow for my taste ;)

  • @GregCathalina What a stupid thing to say... the music is still good. You're sad that they're not making music you want to immitate now? rofl It's still good music, stop being a baby.

  • I dont know ...

  • will these hipster bashers shut the fuck up, please...

  • witnessing*

  • Dredg has progressed sooo much...I have to disagree with everyone who is badmouthing the the new album. Plus, I just saw them live again at the roxy. The new songs live have incredible energy unlike any other. You know that feeling you get, when what you're whitnessing is so good you just smile and shake your head. Yea, that good...

  • daumen hoch für das Lied !!!

  • I love this song...<3

  • Of course bands cannot be expected to remain exactly the same over time, but i'm starting to become embarrassed to call myself a dredg fan. In fact, if dredg puts out too many more albums like PPD and this... well, I don't think I will be able to call myself a fan anymore. I don't mind long release cycles, just get back to your roots!

  • this stuff is just rehashed duran duran from the 80s. lol.

  • I think I'm still gonna buy this album to continue supporting Dredg. They are an awesome and talented band and it's by buying their stuff and going to see their shows that they will continue making music, and hopefully come up with a better record channeling the Pariah and Catch next time around.

  • Baby's first riff

  • The chorus is good! But then... you've got the rest... and it's shit.

  • 36 assholes!

  • screw the sound, just listen to the lyrics! they're great.

  • If the uploader says it reminds them of Linkin Park, how does anyone not instantly exit out of the window? Or wait 15 seconds, have the sound confirm it and you're forced to mute or exit out anyway.

  • This song is available FREE on iTunes this week.

  • When does the new album come out? I heard that they kept it honest and went with Pariah, The Parrot, The Delusion. But I think all there albums they worked as a band are awsome.

  • @Unfgirl060 Came out today.

  • Hate to say it, but this song is the shit. Great chorus and the piano in the back sounds awesome.

  • They r in no way challenging themselves to be creative. yes we all love dredg but its just hard to come to grips with artists who have inspired you in every way to fall back and make material like this. They were anything but mainstream but now they fit in just right just like they want i guess. Hope the next is different.

  • @LevitySky Agreed. Dredg has officially fallen apart. Too caught up in their own beliefs, they were once inspiring... but no more. They portray the easy implementation of casual instruments, thinking they are redefining the use of them, when, they are simply limiting their cause. Message to Dredg: At one point, Levity Sky and Dr DisRespect were the true, elite understanders of your Reason. But now you couldn't convince us even if you saw us at the Cardif lounge in Campbell........ no way

  • 3 words....DAN...THE...AUTOMATOR....BLEH.....oh well, dredg gave m3 3 great albums...we'll see, just feel like this is missing heart.

  • People seem to forget that bands (most bands,) make music for themselves, (of course they also think of the fans) but it's what they're feeling, what they want to say. We have no idea what's been going on in their private life or in their minds of late or perhaps they just wanted to experiment.

You can't satisfy everyone, perhaps they will find their way back to a style that suits as many as possible.

  • dredg?... not impressed! :( What happened? Leitmotif or El Cielo is what the Fans want!!!

  • thats the voice and the sound i exspected!!! Times are changing!!

  • THIS is the single?!

    ...ugh.

  • oh, dredg ,whatever you do , you do it great !

  • If this were another band I'd dig it. Its the problem that this is Dredg, a band that you least expect making music like this. I guess we have to get used to it. Things change.

  • Dan the Autofaggot killed this band. Thanks guy.

  • Sounds good to me, if they were to release albums that all sound the same, it would just get old. Music changes.

  • This hurts.

  • This album was VERY different. Reminds me of what Linkin Park has done. Dredg had pretty much the same sound up until Pariah (with the exception of a few songs on that album). The new one is very, very different. Not bad, but different. Still, I want more songs like their old masterpieces. This is probably the only song on the album that sounds similar to their older stuff.

  • @harrymasononvacation

I'd say Somebody is Laughing could have almost been on PPD.

  • @harrymasononvacation please do not compare dredg to linkin park. thank you.

  • @harrymasononvacation It's a sad day when Dredg can be compared to Linkin Park.

I hate this album for a multitude of reasons. The lyrics are so very contrived and predictable, the music itself is boring and unoriginal, and the lack of musicianship is astounding. Dino tore shit up on Leitmotif and El Cielo, it's fucking sad to hear him play a song like this. The same goes for the rest of the band, too. Seriously, its 3 and a half minutes of straight 8th notes all around. Shit makes me sick.

  • @MrAochider I personally think Dredg just tried to go for something different and threw together whatever they could in 2 seconds. I actually like a few songs on this album, but it's not that hard to tell that a lot of it is thrown together as fast as possible. If it's not, then I really don't get what they did. On the other hand, Linkin Park seems to be trying too hard to make different material, and it's out of their element. Whereas I loved the first 2 Linkin Park albums, the last 2...meh.

  • @MrAochider just because something is simple, and not complex and super deep and creative, doesnt mean its bad. dredg hasn't stopped writing lyrics about real things, why should they? i know it's different, but it's still dredg.

  • @harrymasononvacation

Linkin Park changed, but Minutes To midnight is stil a great album and A Thousand Suns is cool too.

Instead Dredg changed, and their last two albums are just "meh"...

No Pariah and no Parrot. Just Delusion....

  • I love this song's melody and rhythm. I had to listen to this album several times to fully appreciate it. I can't wait till may 3rd so I can get my physical copy. I felt worried after hearing 2 songs off this album but to all the people still stuck 10 years ago with el cielo, please stop comparing everything to that album. It is their most complex and unique yes but not their defining album. The beauty of dredg for me is how they are always diff in every album. Hard to give them a description.

  • @azthegame Oh someone else going to the ace of spades show. :] I'm excited.

  • i don't know, but this reminds of twilight?^^

  • El Cielo is one of a kind. Is that not the point though? I wont deny that El Cielo is my favorite too, but why let that cause you to not enjoy their new works? There is always a time needed to adjust to "new dredg" (CWA included), but I always end up falling in love with it in time. Every album is vastly different. I think that is why whenever they are about to come out with something, I am so eager to find out what will be like. ^_^

  • Its not a horrible album, it just fails to exceed the exceptionally high standards all their other albums have set. IMO, you can plainly hear the great strides Dredg has made since the beginning all the way up to Pariah. The problem is with this 2011 album, they took a horrible step in the wrong direction. :[

  • Dredg El Cielo is one of the best Original pieces of artwork I have ever heard... Unfortunately these guys need to be able to make some money and in a perfect world El Cielo would be a number one album.. People just like bubble gum music and creativity doesnt get you anywhere these days.

  • Dredg songs grow on you- it's weird. Everyone who says this sucks must listen to the rest.

  • Dredg was a great band. Now they are a great band for pussies.

  • Just disappointed with the album... I thought the band got worst listening to "The Pariah...", but this one is fucking awful. |:

  • @cpavanelli Accept change. It's their music to do what they want with it. I can sure as hell guarantee that they aren't putting out a record to satisfy you.

  • @cpavanelli I'm listening to the album over and over these days, trying to accept it, at least I'm getting used to this one and Somebody Is Laughing (:

  • @cpavanelli I liked Pariah a whole lot... no comparison to El Cielo...but this.... this..... this is ridiculous.

  • @cpavanelli

    in your opinion.

  • @cpavanelli it saddens me that i have to give this a thumbs up :(

  • Nothing can ever top El Cielo & Leitmotif

  • Gotta hear the album in full...and see if it grows on me. Not digging this song, but I felt that way about Information and now Pariah is one of my fav albums....so I'll wait so i can hear everything

  • Eh... I would have to hear the rest of this new album before I could make a decision.

At first I really did not like The Pariah, The Parrot, and The Delusions. And honestly, it took me a very long time to finally start to like Catch Without Arms. El Cielo is still my favorite.

This song isn't half-bad. It would take a few more listens to really get into, though.

  • Oh my god, this is terrible. R.I.P Dredg.

  • heard very good things about dredg... I was under the opinion they were a bit more original to be honest.

  • @MrShadyJeff

    Listen to El Cielo

  • @muzik313

    El Cielo is amazing!!!

  • @muzik313 listened to it now - it's very very good.

how could they from that to what sounds essentially like pop?

  • @MrShadyJeff The most original band. Period.

  • @CordillaMusic the most original band? They aren't.

  • @MrShadyJeff Listen to Leitmotif, El Cielo, Catch Without Arms, and Pariah. And listen to the other songs from this record.

  • @MrShadyJeff To understand dredg is to listen to El Cieo as a whole. It is a complete masterpiece. It blows my mind and causes my hair to stand every time. Especially the last track on the album "The Canyon Behind Her"

  • @MrShadyJeff nah man dredg is the best band in the world idk whats going on with this album but listen to cathc with out arms if u want to be blown away

  • @MrShadyJeff nonono!they rock!but not this last alb um, you need to go back to masterpieces like the albums:catch without arms and el cielo , those two are amazing, original, etc

  • @MrShadyJeff This is the worst, most, unfair representation of Dredg... listen to Leit Motif first..then El Cielo...the Parot Pariah...etc.. then go back one album and listen to Catch without Arms..and go to this album.... (slaps forehead REALLY hard)....yeah I dunno what happened to this band. I hardly ever said this in my life but "Formerly my favorite band"

  • nice

  • It is what it...for now. Think about it: Did El Cielo sound anything like Leitmotif? Did CWA sound any thing like El Cielo? Did Pariah sound anything like CWA? Nope. dredg consistently plays the part of the musical chameleon. Hearing this song does discourage me a bit in terms of my enjoyment of the new album, but who know's what's in store after that?

  • yeah, it's a pop song...I mean compared to the pop stuff that's out there now, this is golden...now compared to Dredg's past albums this is way different and a letdown. Reminds me of Paradise Lost when they released "Host" I have to listen to this whole album to give it a fair judgement

  • I saw Upon Returning live in Milwaukee last winter and it was by far the best song they played. See it live and let me know.

  • All the hate probably means I'll be loving this album.

  • why the fuck they started make shitty pop?

  • who knew the lyrics for sanzen would become their reality
