Here I gotta say something: Once I was on a poppin battle with all those fabulous poppers, Pete performed a solo as a judge. To be honest, I couldn't really tell that much difference between Pete and other nice poppers at the site. The poppers who I thought to be equivalent to Pete reacted in a different way; they confessed later that they almost cried, and were totally moved by the Pete's move. Here's the insight: You can't judge somebody unless you're on that level, as you can't really SEE it
He And Sam Invited Poping, Yeah of course there better poppers now thats because, We had about 30 years of making it better, [its like the first ever cell phone wasnt the best cell phone but with out it we wouldn't have the iphone]
Oh my god . Popin Pete. i must say this coz its true, i just file new window same vid. another you tube drop the Volume this time pumped up a different Dr Dre ( Dre an Eminiem For get about dre) Yeah sure pause it till you sync the moves and Bang there you have popin pete on beat
Yeah love the moves . Always have and for a moment i thought he was movin to these Dre beats ? Popin pete and dr dre ? Nice mix got it down tight! in fact am gonna check some other sound and sync it see!
lol at these little kids...please stop embarrassing yourselves by trying to put Pacman and Mr Fantastic in Popin Pete category, Popin Pete is no longer looking to prove himself, he proved himself DECADES AGO! These new guys haven't INVENTED ANYTHING one guy is just flexible with NO MUSICALITY! they are just copying the Legends and maybe adding a little twist to it
Popin Pete, Mr Wiggles, Boogaloo Sam, Boogaloo Shrimp just to name a few, those guys are ICONS!
@azn1prince I take it you've seen his clips? Come on man, that shit was new, when he first started appearing on vids, about 10 years ago. If you haven't seen it, watch Elsewhere's segment on 'Detours'. It's available on here.
@bugstrut new? perhaps. I'm not challenging if it was new. I'm challenging the fact that you're classifying what Elsewhere does as a dance! If you think it is (I don't and I can tell you why I dont), it sure as hell isn't popping. Hence why I'm asking you to please enlighten me as to what style he created. Is there a name to this so called style? OTKP is saying the same thing. What these kids are doing are new and unique, but they're not dancing b/c they have zero musicality!
@OTKP you speak the truth mate, but, the reason these new guys are popping is cause pete inspired them they are all part of his legacy of dance they are just trying to spread his legend even further
@adidascnar it's popping man flex and relax your muscle at almost in an instant, do it to music, just keep practicing it...an mimic what these guys do thats about it...but you have to feel it.
It's clear that Poppin' Pete was bloody awesome in his hayday. I don't think this video showcases his true skill. However what it does show is his passion and love for the music. The emotion flowing from his dance and lips towards the end makes me hope that in 50 years or so, I still love what I love doing now as much as it comes across from him.
@MrC0ne I don't think so. He's good put poppin pete can't do the stuff that he was able to do in prime (the ground moves that he used to do were insane). I'm talking about poppin pete from late 80-90's. Cause right now Salah is still very young and able to do alot more althetic things and that's what people really want to see is the effects and such. It would be good battle because pete is still amazing but only Salah is in his prime. I mean petes gettin close to 50 years no lie
One of the original pioneers and poppin master. I'd like to see him and Chabeeb just talk about the evolution of the genre. Murraine is just a double-jointed freak with no soul. :)
For an old man (he's almost 50, but looks like he's 30), Pete still has moves.
shut up...and watch the legend...!!! robert murraine is only beginner in popping..robert murraine is worst popper ı have ever seen...you can not compare a legend with a shit...
@bboysnack pffff xDDDDD robert muraine is basic and choreographic , poppin pete is the best popper on the world , because is original, rhythmic, fluid and funk .... Robert muraine is robotic ..... There are much better... Gucchon, sugapop, mr wiggles, boogaloo sam, Frank ejara, Wild Cherry (RIP) and many more
@Mat1sjah haha yea like nahm hyun john , salah, etc.. i got what you mean and i am not arguing with anything what you have mentioned , though they are both hugley different styles we can not just compare these too .there is just no best popper, because everyone completes their job , expressing and entertaining now with that said , both are big modivators , but of corse going back to roots you can learn a lot more from here . robert muraine is not just basic , his style of "future" dancing is
@Mat1sjah pretty amazing , we can just not compare these two , even with a battle . popping pete has more experience no doubt but robert can get the public, . actually both can . this remains my view as neutral , hope i have explained my self enough . robert muraine no doupt is getting old with his style . poppin john , j smooth are the next gerneration leading with pacman , not arguing the principle of freestyle and choreography . idk. i just know that they all have brought me to this point and
@ i respect to all poppers out there because if not for them ,i wouldn't be at this point. even though i might not be good , but they have done their job in motivating people .sadly the internet has mixed so many styles together negativley and positvley .even old school poppers such as mr wiggles has looked at people from the internet and learned new moves, and mixed it up . anyway we can discuss this topic somewhere else ,but in reality there isn't much to talk about , Period .popping bubbles
Actually MJ learned his iconic moves from poppin taco who danced with Pete and many others. and MJ's famous backslide was taught to him by Boogaloo Shrimp after the "I Am LA" popping and breaking documentary
MJ learned his moves from Poppin Pete and Poppin Sam. All of MJ's iconic moves like the moonwalk were actually taught to him from the original poppers from the Electric Boogaloo. The moonwalk was actually known as the back slide. Learn your history people.
before you make your comments u guys need to realize he was in mj's video he did not teach mj! you need to do your studying... mj learned from people such as james brown , the rat pack, gene kelly etc
Learning to pop is way easier than I expected... That is until I learned that its not ok to just use everybody else's moves. Next thing I knew I was dead in the water for awhile. It's hard to conceive the notion of blazing the trail in the beginning... and to do so with an arsenal of moves large enough to start something this big. Poppin' Pete, you sir, are a genius.
LEGEND! man what i would give to meet him and wiggles and boog sam...and wish skeeter was still here...man ppl always wanna meet the beatles and bob marley...i wanna hang out with these guys.
He is the one of the founders of Popping. Show respect because without him there will be no popping today, no salah, no robert, no phillip or whoever. If still can't get some senses into your brain, go google search the history of Popping.
@MsHappyfeet95 He's a singer/performer. He's not a dancer. I haven't seen him enter any hip hop/popping battles (if those are the styles that he does).
@Gokulsan Pete is an incredibly well respected originator of this dance and he's more likely to have been judging a battle, than competing. Search for the Electric Boogaloos for a start.
I was in Fresno when Pete first started, and both his brothers Sam & Decky as well as original EB member Nate were all awesome. Pete is the best popper out there. And Sam can out Boogaloo anybody. Decky could tick his azz off. But mad props to Pete and his love of the poppin game. Hella respect is due to legends.
@spritedblue Yeah this guy is so old (no offense Pete ^_^ ), hes got videos from the 80's but the guy looks like he could be 30. He's one of the greatest dancers out there, I wouldn't be suprised if he taught Chris Brown a thing or 2.
Sam didnt invent poppin, and pete is one of the illest poppers out there, no doubt a legend, so shut the fuck up with this michael jackson mr. fantastic shit. ye theyre good, but in terms of straight poppin, nothing like pete.
With this I'm not saying that Salah, Pac Man, etc. doesn't feel it, but they can't do it wit popping, oly with the styles that somehow are related to popping.
The point is to look back to the foundations of the dance and study, reviw your concepts
But when it concerns to popping ONLY, Pete is the best, undisputedly. He can beat al those guys not only in popping but also in waving, strobing, puppet, robot, etc, in my opinion, search for the videos of Pete in those styles and check it out. The thing is, like someone said, not to do something impressive, but respect the foudations of popping and express yourself about how the music makes you feel.
I do agree with "thisisblasphamy", but I'd like to put things in another way. Once I was a guy who thought Salah, Pac Man, Robert Muraine etc. were better popping dancers than Pete, although Pete is the member of Eletric Boogaloos who created the dance (and elected Pete the best from what I know). But at that point I though popping to be the dance of impressive moves only, ignoring the difereces that exists in each style also danced by poppers, like wave, strobing, tutting etc.
all y'all comparing pete to guys like salah, pacman and muraine don't know your popping roots. first off, you can't compare dancers from generations. new school always advances what the old school couldn't.. salah may be a front runner now, but people who don't know shit later on will be like "man that salah guy is wack", simply cause they won't know their history. second..Poppin Pete is dope. don't disrespect someone who was part of the group that revolutionized the game. that's just foolish
Actually he did invent popping (which was at first a style of boogaloo where you hit at every count) but now people use popping to classify styles like tutting strobing ticking puppetry ETC. so modern popping kinda developed on its own so i guess it depends on ow your using it
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
if yall were fans of popping and breaking, you wouldnt think pete is all that great. His freezes are kinda sloppy and really its not that impressive. Well....not compared to jsmooth, salah, bruce ykanji, etc.
ok enought!! look... im really hapy that poppin pete is the creator of it or else i dont think i would be able to fell in love for such an amazing dance BUT cmon...the best poppers kep saying that poppin pete is the best popper in the world.. wtf?? cmon he created popping yes of course he did... but he got superated by a lot of dancers and the only thing u need to notice it is comparing em...
It's funny that someone would mention how internal Poppin' Pete dances, just considering isn't the reason people should dance is to feel good about themselves? When you get down to the core of it, it's not really about other people when you're dancing..and learn, this is what the best looks like. If it weren't for Pete and Sam, where would popping be today?
for all you stupid f^&ks saying that people like robert muraine or mj is better, you need to do some studying. They would be anywhere if it werent for people like poppin pete
@thisisblasphamy agree about robert..partially agree about MJ. MJ was still well-established before Poppin' Pete hit the scene in the early 80's. Not hatin on pete because the dude is a pioneer, just saying.
@IVIystical yeah i reread my original comment, and it didnt come off the way i wanted it to... I ment to say that muraine and mj hasnt contributed as much (of their own stuff) as pete has (some might say pete hasnt either) ... that bein said pete has done some bad stuff too... Just read that comment and didnt like how it sounded... also not a big fan of muraine... hate bein the one dude spreading crap over the internet...
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Check out Robert Muraine. He actually engages his audience when he dances. PP dances for himself which gets old. And he doesn't transition from one set of moves to another. Just pauses and starts another sequence of moves.
I like the music but the video is boring very boring buuuu buuu =D

Actually he did invent popping (which was at first a style of boogaloo where you hit at every count) but now people use popping to classify styles like tutting strobing ticking puppetry ETC. so modern popping kinda developed on its own so i guess it depends on ow your using it

if yall were fans of popping and breaking, you wouldnt think pete is all that great. His freezes are kinda sloppy and really its not that impressive. Well....not compared to jsmooth, salah, bruce ykanji, etc.

freezes are in breaking not popping o_O

It's funny that someone would mention how internal Poppin' Pete dances, just considering isn't the reason people should dance is to feel good about themselves? When you get down to the core of it, it's not really about other people when you're dancing..and learn, this is what the best looks like. If it weren't for Pete and Sam, where would popping be today?

Salah brought me here, he references Pete several times in the China interview. I can see he's learned a lot from Pete or maybe vice versa (?).

@thisisblasphamy agree about robert..partially agree about MJ. MJ was still well-established before Poppin' Pete hit the scene in the early 80's. Not hatin on pete because the dude is a pioneer, just saying.
IVIystical 1 year ago
@IVIystical yeah i reread my original comment, and it didnt come off the way i wanted it to... I ment to say that muraine and mj hasnt contributed as much (of their own stuff) as pete has (some might say pete hasnt either) ... that bein said pete has done some bad stuff too... Just read that comment and didnt like how it sounded... also not a big fan of muraine... hate bein the one dude spreading crap over the internet...

Sorry, don't agree with you on the, "They would be anywhere" bit when it comes to Michael Jackson.
Michael Jackson was born to sing and dance ...destined to become huge - with or without one or two dance routines, derived from above video.
Don't know about "robert muraine", though!

Check out Robert Muraine. He actually engages his audience when he dances. PP dances for himself which gets old. And he doesn't transition from one set of moves to another. Just pauses and starts another sequence of moves.
