Such a lovely, uplifting film, I just love everything about it. Cherryberry360 is absolutely right, Roberto Benigni in English is just NOT Roberto Benigni.
I used to watch this movie with my cousin when i was little and he was studying italian in university! always loved it, such a beautiful movie! i would definitely watch it in italian with subtitles, as it is SUCH a gorgeous language and the actors are amazing! one of my favorite foreign films hands down <3 xxx
I LOVE this movie. Saw it in Italian first, later in English, both are great. The translation into English was beautiful. This scene makes me cry, and not just due to the story, but because it transports my thoughts to a time I haven't lived yet, where love, peace and happiness are infinite.
This movie is real masterpiece of cinematography. I've never seen a movie with such a balance of hysterical comedy and serious drama. Roberto Benigni was brilliant. Nicoletta Braschi was impressive too. The movie won 3 Oscars I would give it more. Life is Beautiful is one of my all time favorite War movies - along with Escape from Sobibor (1987), Schindler's List (1993), Savior (1998), Enemy at the Gates (2001), The Pianist (2002) and Black Book (2006).
I've loved this opera duet since I saw it in the movie. It males me cry also (and I NEVER cry!). It's simply beautiful. Thank you so much for putting this up so we can enjoy it.
This is a great movie, but the English voice-overs in this version kind of ruin it. I watched the version with subtitles two days ago, and since then, this song has been stuck in my head 24/7.
@loflander000 I understand how you feel, however the dubbed version allowed me to show this wonderful film to my students, most of whom are poor readers. I also have a blind student for whom subtitles would be useless. I think Benigni has done a great job and I am pleased all the accents are not American. Thank you Roberto.
@loflander000 You are correct but the dubbed version allowed me to show this wonderful film to my students, many of whom are poor readers. I also have a blind student for whom the subtitles would be useless! I think the dubbing is great, as far as dubbing goes. The expression is there and the accents are not all American. A nice change. Thank Roberto!
my friend i'lll respond, because this is one of my favorite movies ever. The story takes place in two parts. Guido the charachter you see before you, is a Jewish man in love with "Princess". and he's going to get her no matter the obstacle. the music is by Offenbach, and the second half of the film,is him trying to save his sons innocence as they try to survive a Nazi Death Camp. watch it, its a lovely movie.
could be an odd request here. but do you think you could upload an untranslated version of this scene? I can read and the italian makes it more beautiful
Isaiah 45:22 Look unto me, and be ye saved, all the ends of the earth: for I am God, and there is none else.
John 3:14-15 And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of man be lifted up: That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life.
NEVER watch this movie dubbed in English when you could watch it in Italian with subtitles! The English does NOT do it justice, the Italian is so beautiful.
I agree and Disagree No one in my class watched because they did not understand and did not want to read the subtitles but your right about the Language is is Beautiful I want to watch it with the girl I Love, in it's original Audio So yeah I did like it in Italian. And I would most likely agree
man i love the whole movie but esp. this part! that lady beside him thinks he has the hots 4 her! also that part after the opera, he says "my princess, your cute little behind is showing!" awesome, i love it!!!!!
Excellent video,It brings to mind a verse of scripture,Isaiah 45:22;"Look unto me, and be ye saved, all the ends of the earth: for I am God and there is none else. / I Timothy 3:16; "And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness:God was manifest in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen of angels, preached unto the Gentiles, believed on in the world, recieved up into glory.
Look unto Jesus alone, as he was lifted up as the serpent in the wilderness(John 3:14) Made a curse for us.
Italian, Spanish, French, Portuguese. They all stem from Latin. Italian is the more direct discendant of Latin. Standard Italian is resemble more Spanish than Franch. North-western italian dialects are more similar to French while Southern Dialect have a lot of common with Spanish because the Spaniard conquered Southern Italy in the past.
I didn't know they had dubbed this into English. I live in Ireland, but it was shown in Italian with subtitles. I prefer the original voice to be honest.
infinitely better in italian though...the coiceover's mess everyhting up. the movie is "life is beautiful" or "la vita e bella" in italian. one of my favorite movies ever....bravo benigni.

Trés beau film et très belle musique d'Offenbach, film à la fois drôle et émouvant...Benigni est splendide dans cette fable, bref un de ces films
qu'on ne se lassera pas de revoir.
