It's just the fact that back in the day, people played and sang with real instruments..not like the crap you hear on the radio today..Take a look at the lyrics and what gifted singers like Englebert sing about...Nowadays so much of the music is Nigger-ized..Often remakes of classic songs ruined by this queer nigger beat rap crap. What a shame...and no Im not a racist..I love the niggers too.
Thank you for posting this song from 1969. I remember a radio station in California called K-BON. There was one version of this song used in their station breaks. It sounded like it was sung by Leonard Nimoy of "Star Trek" Fame! (Very deep voice).
Of all the beautiful songs that Engelbert has recorded, even of all those that belong to him and him alone, this is the most beautiful. And, this rendition is heart-breakingly lovely. Till now I'd only heard the studio version, which is gorgeous too, but it adds so much to be able to see him.
My favorite Engelbert song is "Quiet Nights and Quiet Stars," but this is a very, *very* close second.
ABSOLUTELY INCREDIBLE! PERHAPS ''THE'' GREATEST PERFORMANCE OF HIS LEGENDARY CAREER. ENGELBERT HAD THE GREATEST VOICE IN THE HISTORY OF MUSIC. NO ONE CAN TOUCH HIM TO THIS DAY! NUFF SAID.
My favourite song of his, the best lyrics and both Mum and Grandma had his album, This is Englebert, I liked his music when I was 6 or 7 and appreciate it even more now at 44. Unfortunately could'nt afford to see him when he came to Oz 10 years ago. Such is life
well i'm glad that i found this song. I'm only old enough to remember my mom playing it when i was growing up. It has helped me to have a wider view of music and not just conform to one genre. So i am a better man...
Burt Bacharach's output is immense. Despite his great success and the vast number of songs chosen to showcase his lifetime work in concerts, it remains true that there are hundreds of great songs of his that remain largely ignored or underappreciated.
There's at least another Bacharach song that seems to have been written for him. I saw it on youtube recently but can't recall the name. See? I'm a big BB fan but I can't keep track.. (BTW, look for HQ Karima here on youtube. Great new BB song.)
Oh, when you hear the crap that they call music today, and then listen to Englebert and his glorious voice it just breaks my heart that the young people now don't know the great music we knew when we were kids. Enge really is the very best of the best!!!
amen to that my friend. i couldnt have said it better myself. classic music is sadly dead in this day and age. but at least WE have our memories and cd's to remind us of better times. amen.
meaning of the word AWESOME...The hits just kept on coming out as they would from an assembly line....One after another...I remember one day thinking as a twelve year-old in 1965, that the melodies would surely one day had to run out...This song is a masterpiece which brings tears, maybe they will soon post the studio version here.
@sierracuban Spot on with the observations. The phenomenal music of the sixties, seventies and early eighties apparently affronted the sensibilities of the music industry jackals, who subsequently took corrective action.
It's great to see younger generation, even if by accident, finding one of the greatest singers of the 20th, Engelbert. Those of us who grew up in the middle 50's thru the middle 70's, had the opportunity to hear solo artist/groups performing the greatest sounding music to one's ear. Thanks's to YouTube, and people like Loc139, all have the chance to experience what many of us had.
I discovered Engelbert's voice a few years ago as a freshman in college. I was driving back to the University late one evening and Winter World of Love came on...I had to pull over. I've been hooked ever since. His voice is unbelievably perfect for his genre. Such a rich velvet color that picks you up and carries you away. I also agree with the comments about Bacharach and David, I wished I had an ounce of their talent to write lyrics and music. Does anyone have The Signs of Love?
This recording is one of the 12 full-length classic vintage performances from the ENGELBERT HUMPERDINCK GREATEST PERFORMANCES 1967-1977 DVD compilation, released in 2007 by "Reelin' in The Years" Productions LLC. Most of the clips are taken from his own highly acclaimed variety show "The Engelbert Humperdinck Show" 1969-70. The DVD is great, with old Engelbert telling the story of each featured song and also recalling experiences with other great musicians he has met along the years.
I always enjoy watching this beautiful face moving his lips to share that wonderfully beautiful voice. He has no equal. Thanks for sharing this video!!!
Excellent song and singing. I wonder why this wonderful Bacharach tune is rarely heard. Is there any other version of this song?

Thanks for this superb video.
Such a rich baritone voice, which could change octaves at a moment's notice.
By comparison, many of today's top artists are 1 note backup singers, at best.

I love how Engelbert changes his look each decade.
Dark, blonde, beard, mustache, sideburns, clean shaven.
The one constant is that amazingly rich baritone that changes octaves at a moment's notice.
By comparison, today's male singers are mostly 1 note
backup vocalists. I'm spoiled by this artist's musical gift.
