I also pay above the minimum wage. But for those that do, the entry level jobs, this is an added expense. It appears painfully obvious that Kennedy has no understanding of basic economics which doesn't surprise me as nobody in DC does.

But why are you complaining about paying your employees over minimum wage? If it gets you so pissed to be compassionate, then fire them all and replace them with minimum wage employees.

Hey GetItRight4aChange, stop living in a dream world. If your parents paid 5% income tax in 1950, then they still owe the gov't some money. The marginal tax rate in 1950 was 17.4% on <$4,000 income up to 91%(!!) over $400,000. By comparison, now it's 10% (<$16,000+) to 35% over $372,950. Still think you're being taxed to death? To think Obama was called a socialist to suggest raising the top bracket a couple of percent. What is it about helping those on the bottom that offends conservatives?

It's not about R or D, it's about the common man and the central banking--the Federal Reserve, etc. Obama has quadrupled the deficit since Bush left. If we're fighting for our financial lives, we won't be able to oppose the New World Order.

funny i run a business (sub contractor for a medical supply company) and we pay our workers 11 hr to start there is 5 of us we are a small business and have no problem with minimum wage going up, y u may ask because we see that the cost of living and doing business goes up all the time if im to pay 2 bucks an hr to someone im going to get a brainless crack head that wont work hard its in my companies benfit to pay well for good help may i ask what u do and how u pay?

Raising minimum wage forces business to raise all wages, which leads to increasing prices and decreases the number of jobs available to youth and college students. It just creates inflation and unemployment. Yelling and drama don't change the facts. Democrats are always proposing ideas with unintended consequences.....

I'm pretty sure increasing minimum wage from $5 to $7 is not gonna force buisness to raise their prices so high that all prices increase and inflation hits really fast and besides were already in a bad economy that was 2007 you keep prices down like this the value of the dollar is gonna steadily decrease and were still gonna have even more economical problems to solve

It's not just the wage of the lowest earners. When you raise the lowest earners, you must raise everyone else unless you want mutiny, plus there are the employer's portion of SS and unemployment (both state and federal) on those wages.YES, businesses pass on the additional costs or they don't make the profits necessary for operations. When their profit margin goes down, attrition or layoffs bring profitability up to where it needs to be to operate.

Ok then why is the town in Idaho thriving and the Oregon town across the bridge dying. Oregon must have raise the minimum wage right, nope the Idaho town did, that argument is so tired and worn out, do you know who the first person to use that argument is? Tell me more about how raising minimum wage caused your business to thrive. Oh, you don't have a business? Then don't be so condescending to me, a business owner. It certainly wasn't a rise in minimum wage that made the difference between Idaho & Oregon--it's more likely LOWER TAXES. When you make more, the gov't thinks you have their money. Get the taxes down (so you aren't paying SS/MC taxes into July).

It gives back pruchasing power. It won't make minimum wage earners millionaires. Instead of barely being able to afford rent and enough food so they don't starve, it will people who were constantly shut down in life and forced into a minimum wage position to live a less stressful life.

As for college students, I'm a college student and I make triple the min wage at my part time job. It's called having standards. Some people may be forced to work for min but some people are just underachievers.

I repeat, when wages go up at the bottom, they go up for everyone, or there is mutiny. Then prices go up or businesses go out of business. The gov't gets the extra taxes on the extra wages. Employer-employee strife ensues, while the gov't is left to do what they want because we're too busy fighting & blaming. We need to lower the taxes & cut gov't spending. How would you like to pay only 5% of your pay like my parents did in 1950? Europeans give up about 70%--welcome to the New World Order.
