Cool video, sure its skids but any other skid other then the "stem hump" are hard to perform. Plus the vid looked fun and you know the people rideing had a blast. Rideing with your pals outside. Dangs now I am going to go ride. Thanks fellers
Okay this is bullshit, Why the fuck do people actually to hate on someone doing the same thing they love to do just because the tricks aren't cool enough? These guys love to ride have some respect. But man 2:10 is sick, I haven't seen any one skid like that before. I'm gonna go try it out.
the card in the spoke originate from the alleycat races. Originally, the messengers would have the card indicating their position in the race and would keep the card for bragging rights until the next race, it doesn't make for a better ride but people nowadays just put it in the spokes to make their ride look "cool".
trend or not im happy people are being more active with theyre lives instead of ragging on people behind there computers riding bikes in general is fun( well for me), wether you ride with brakes or not its really a matter of security and assurance.. its better to have a brake then a split head with your brains gushing out..fixies are fun.
its for security, people who ask to remove breaks havent ate shit or gone down steep hills without enjoying the speed without worrying about having to skid to stop..... Breaks help idiots.
@BeatMasterDee Pull front brake going downhill and see what happens there is a reason why the front brakes come on the left side it is because we pull the right brake harder than our left hand pulls the left brake.
front brakes are good to have but totally for emergencies ONLY. using your legs for your stopping power is plenty-- depending on where you're ridin, obviously.
52-19 gear ratio is a good one. it's what I've got.
I'm thinking of buying an old steel Frame & building a Fixie .... whats the life span of the rear tire , & what are the best tires that take longest to wear out ....any1 .....any1 ......bueller ?
it's difficult to say... it really depends on how much you skid it out. It's not something you do constantly unless you're an idiot. Vittoria Randonneurs are really good tyres though, they last a very long time comparatively!
SOMA makes a great tire for fixie riding, but do your self a favor and ad a front brake to your bike. A front break can provide 70% of your braking power, plus you don't want to have to depend on your legs to stop you. Also, don't get too hard of a gear, you don't want to kill your knees.
they're called spoke cards. they're often given out during alley cat races and that sorta thing. a couple bands and bike companies have put their logo on spoke cards and sold them as well.
yeah rageofezln is right but your only suppose to have them in your spokes if you have one a alley race or like some sponspoered race. Well thatrs the legit way or you can be a poser and put one in it.
Depends on how you use it. Using your legs to brake can put stress on the knees, as can using the wrong ratio to climb a hill. Then again, the latter applies to geared bikes as well. Check out the fixed gear testimonials on Sheldon Brown's website for some commentry as to what's good and bad for the knees.
I used to ride brakeless until I got a ticket. cops in my town are strict. I know they raised the price of fix tickets to $25-30. thats the price of a decent brake (not special, but does the job). While I'm commuting I keep it on, when I wanna do tricks I take it off...fact of life. I just wanna ride, who cares if it's not "cool," thats not the point...
running a brake on a fixed gear doesnt make you invincible, im not saying you shouldnt run one, im just saying that alot of ppl think that if they run a front or rear brake on a fixed gear, they are immune to crashes.
the law defines a brake as being able to execute a skid on flat, dry pavement. ask a cop to look up the code then show him/her a skid. or just lie and say your hub has a coaster brake.
tried it...both cops present showed me the law and the section, they both rode track bikes, they didn't care that I could skid (even tho that follows the law). If I really wanted to fight it, I could've gone to court, but whatever I take it off at home and leave it on while I'm at college. if you can get away with it...do it cuz this shit is too much fun
nothin special about this vid. if you are a crew and you make videos you should do some better sh*t and put that up to youtube.
about brakes i have one in case of something. and i like it it kinda gives me a safe feeling. but hey if you think its a gay thing then fine... it's your skull not mine
so what if your just starting to ride fixes? and you have brakes? thats makes you a poser? what about the people who just like to try new things? or like to pursue whatever they have a interest in? im not on your ass? i just want to know? because i skateboard and the shit is getting old, and im looking for something new?

Perhaps in a couple years I'll be able to pick up a fixie on the CHEAP.
Baggin someone for having a front brake, who can actually ride well just shows how superficial some people are and makes it pretty clear why they are into these bikes. hopefully a new fad comes along soon and ferries these fad victims along, leaving fixed gears to ppl who enjoy riding them rather than being seen riding (or pushing) them.
well said, the only reason I'd consider taking my front brake off is the idea of being completely in control without the help of anything else...but enjoying riding your fixed gear should be personal, who cares what other people think!
@lilaznfenix maybe you can define that then as it doesn't bother me if people aren't killing it all the time or that they may not carry cool, jaded, ironic air about them.... either, either, having a dig at a year old post that a lot of ppl seem to agree with, well...... maybe you should "get on your bike".
no no no.... the dopest was the dude that let the bike go, then ran after it THEN did a one legged skid! damn.
and personally I think skidding is one of the "prettiest" things to do on a fixed gear. It's elequent and there are alot of diff techniques involved to make it "your own". only downfall... you rip through your tires like WOAH. Price you pay to have fun eh?

i actually have 3 frames in mind from old bikes in my basement that I would convert to fixed.
i just need to buy a back wheel / hub.
lyzardecho9 4 years ago
perfect...just make sure they have horizontal rear dropouts...then u could even get a rim from velocity i like the Deep V if the wheels are 700c...order some wild color...then just get a basic hub and definitely do some colored nipples :D lol but building wheels is much cooler

This is straight up awesome. The thing at 2:11 blew me away, I didn't think there was any way he was going to ride out of that.
