Oh so you must have flown over Santa Cruz, Los Gatos, Saratoga, Sunnyvale, Mountain View and then headed up along the bay paralleling East Palo Alto, Redwood City, San Carlos, San Mateo to SFO,
@travelplus1 we came right in right by sfo, I don't think it would be very efficient to go to LA unless the pilots were considering it an alternate because LA is like 300 miles from SFO it would add a lot of flight time.
I did the Melbourne - Sydney - San Francisco (and return) run over Christmas. First time with UA - probably not as attentive as Qantas, but not too bad, and much cheaper. Enjoyed listening in to the ATC on Channel 9 - all airlines should have this feature.
something i`ve always wonderered about how bad was your jetlag given that you crossed something like 18 time zones you must have been shattered given that you arrived on the same day at roughly the same time of day. also was it daylight all the way over the pacific
it looks like to me san francisco has the same landing strip as oakland i remember my first trip to oakland i was thinking where the hell is the damn runway after flying over pockets of water
Actually, I've had shocking landings in all of those aircraft. I've also had smooth as silk landings in them too! It depends more on the weather and pilots. Aricraft type has nothing to do with it what so ever.
im a flight sim guy so i counted up the taxiways (5) i wounder if it was planed by the pilot to exit the runway at the end of the runway? or were they just too fast? or may b its normal for a boeing 747-400?
its pretty normal in real flying to use a lot of the runway to stop because its not so hard on the brakes. in flight sim, you cannot control the amount of braking like they can in real planes. i was on a 757 landing in denver and they used the whole 12,000 foot of runway to stop, even though they could have used only 4000 feet if they wanted to.
That flight was arriving from Sydney, and it has to park near Terminal G gate 98 or 100 at the very end, therefore, it is easier to exit the runway using the last taxiway. :)
Excellent! Love the United 747s, always nice to see them in Sydney. Looked like a nice landing too. Thanks for sharing! (Nice ATC addition, I would love to hear that if I flew with them)

Should you turn of a camera for landing or is it a bunch of BS.
chase5029 1 year ago
@chase5029 Its kinda of BS cause Ive had a flight attendant see me tape the take off and landing and she didnt say anything.

The nice thing about transpacific flights is that there 'sactually enough time to sleep. No jetlag for me.

what a nice and smooth landing. very nice
trayceyv 3 years ago
it always amazes me how smoothly they can land 747's.
codyl1992 3 years ago
These aren't the only smooth landers, A340-300's and 500's can make nice landings, also the Airbus 332 ( A330-200). have you flown any Airbuses?

Long story short, It all depends on where the pilot wants to exit the runway.

No wonder the landing announcement was made during the rollout, the aircraft parked almost immediately after rollout.
AirChina981 3 years ago
lol well actually it took like 5 minutes to park cuz we were early. I don't know why she said it so fast.
