  • I think I'm in love. Incredible, sustainable architectural developments. Can't wait to see more from Bjarke Ingels.

  • This guy's genius is incredible...but all this is so non feng shui that it would be really claustrophobic living anywhere near the buildings he creates.

  • who know ARCILOOK.COM

  • GET TO THE CHOPPER!!

  • 18:12

  • WARP SPEED GET DOWNNN

  • over the last 2 years I've probably watched this 20 times, and shown everyone i know. Bjarke Ingels: My biggest inspiration.

  • He doesn't sound like Arnold. Arnold sounds like HIM

  • I think his way of thinking architecture is somewhat revolutionary or rather, evolutionary

  • GET TO DA CHOPPA

  • mispelled his name...

  • The Great Wall of China cannot be seen from the moon. It can barely be seen from a low-orbit shuttle. Other than that, great show!

  • GET TO DA CHOPPA!!! AAH UH AAH :D

  • 26 people don't understand English.

  • TED talks rock! What an insightful and witty presentation. His ideas turn into beautiful buildings indeed.

  • It is ground breaking in theory and practice - a small request would be for Bjarke to explain the urban design principles and practices when creating the future human settlement. There are so many dimensions to his work that it is challenging to comprehend, but it would be even better to understand. The talk was awesome and I look forward to more technical presentations in addressing urban design as Bjarke sees it in the future or now! Thumbs way up!

  • People like you thinking that Ingels' interest is is architecture are simply fools....

Probably you also bought His book make of pictures and not of content. do you really think this is architecture? Read something about the current Pritzker price before to talk.

the only interest of Ingels is buisness simply this. I hope that you're not an architecture student or is better if You try to chenge Your studies. Why don't you try with marketing or something more economical? Trust me.

  • @luisnazariodalima1 What are the foundations of your argument?

  • @luisnazariodalima1 What are the foundations of your argument?

  • How old shitty crap architecture can be morphed into something beautiful 11:25

  • 11:54 "so we wouldnt block the view from my apartment" hahahhaahhahahaa

  • Aise Ghar mein Rahna hai!!!

  • GET TO THE BUILDING'S HELIPAD! HURRAY, GET TO THE CHOPPA!! DOOO EET! DOO EET NOW!!

  • Is this guy Austrian? He sounds like Arnold.

  • @instereovideos he said where he's from more than once in the vid

  • @kokofan50 Wow, I was soooo embarrassed when I realized how attentive you are. Do you think you can ever forgive me?

  • Haha. National bank of iceland.

  • LOL Seen from the moon! Nothing man-made can be seen from the moon except for the lunar module, the great wall can't even be seen from space. But there are some man-made things visible from space, like the great dump of New York.

  • @Irishfreedom yes, the great wall is the only man made structure seen from space.

  • wow, this video really share his simple idea into a amazing architecture!

  • I like this video. Thank you for your sharing. Hope to see next your video.

  • I had a dream about a city where the buildings looked like mountains, and were organic. Saw this video at a local TEDx conference. Very cool. I think most architecture now is anti-human, harsh, dry, cold. I hate it. But this island design is very cool. I love this guy!

  • I loved it! Beautiful and ingenious!

  • brilliant ideas , awesome work

  • Historicism = BULLSHIT

  • That's funny, just yesterday I was talking with a friend about the evolution of architectural ideas, the same architect might come back over and over the same idea, but every time it's a little different... Evolution of ideas....

  • Yes that's the first thing i noticed too. But generally a great presentation. I enjoyed it.

  • GET TO THE CHOPPER!

  • His accent is win.

  • that last island thing is pretty epic O___O".

holy crap. the first ever carbon neutral island(/city whatever).

do you guys know what this all means for the future of the earth????

carbon emissions, uv penetration, skin cancer, (overly excessive) global warming, (plus so much more) will be all but a page of human history.

in 100 years time, we will look back and think how badly we once treated the earth and ourselves

it seriously just shows how far humans have advanced technologically. amazing

  • Why is Copenhagen so cool?!?!

  • it's not a tumor!

  • "...the gherkin or the sausage or the sex tool..."

  • 9:32

China is China, Taiwan is Taiwan. There are two different Countries.

  • @parseus keep the political propaganda to yourself, this video is about the beauty of architecture

  • Danish accent rocks!!!

  • that azerbaijan island will be just awesome, it would be beautiful future look since new buildings dont have to adapt in some traditional azerbaijan architecture

  • This talk is amazing. Not only is he funny but he introduces some pretty mind blowing designs.

If only this kind of innovation, social regard and environmental consideration were ubiquitous!

  • Comment removed

  • The island might be co2 neutral when its finished, but how much fossil fuels and natural resources will the construction of it take?

  • The audience didn't get the soundtrack joke? :)

  • hahaha what song is it or why is it funny?

  • twin peaks! fire walk with me.

  • wow, what a step up on architecture, and what amazing design ideas ! Really fun to watch the movie and see the possibilites in the more than near future !

  • he sounds like Arnold Schwarzenegger "GET DOWN!!"

  • GET DAUN IT IS A CHOPPA

  • hahaha get daun!....get daun agaaain!!!

  • Comment removed

  • I don't remember what I wrote up there, probably something offensive :) If we count Norwegian and Swedish as different from Danish, I guess I speak 6. Was that my beef with these guys?

  • @misfisk he speaks perfect english, only with an accent.

  • @kavsi "get to the Choppa!"

  • @kavsi GET TO THE CHOPPA!

  • @kavsi it's the copenhagen accent :P

  • he rocks.... awesome

  • come vit me if llu wan to live!

  • wow.... but i wonder how long it'll take for the whole project to be finished.

  • Way cool...

  • Bjark - what a cool name, sorry that is all I can contribute ;'(

  • Your Beautiful ge1org1e : )

  • Only it seems that they missed an e in the end. I always thought it is Bjarke

  • The Mountain Dwellings sounds like it could be a huge leap for humanity. I am wondering why I haven't heard of it before.

  • I'm really glad he's coming at my architecture school october 14th :)

  • awesome! sustainability should be fun... and this is a great interpretation of what that could be.

  • This is very creative. More, more!

  • That was friggen awesome, I wanna live on that island. Its the greenest design I've seen yet and seems really realistic and attainable seeing what he's created so far.

  • Love the designs. All the talk of "sustainability" & "carbon neutral" pissed me off. Also you have to keep in mind that he essentially cut the capacity of that building so that only rich ppl could live there. Still genius designs though.

  • The "mountain" is a brilliant idea. We need more stuff like that.

  • he sounds like schwarzenegger hehehe

  • god that last this is fucking sick, im going to live there

  • me wants a structure that erects itself.

  • 5:34: We obviously profoundly agreed with him - baaaaaaaahahahaha

  • he deserved a standing ovation!

  • Awesome buildings.

    Awesome t-shirt.

  • WOW that last project is just incredible! Want to travel there when its finished!

  • Great speech and architecture!

  • fantastic

  • astonishing!!!

it makes me feel there's still hope for mankind :D

  • WOOOOOOW!!!!

  • Arnold Schwarzenegger

  • Excellent, I absolutely love that last project! ^_^*

    5*****...Great! :D

  • amazing!

  • GO Denmark :)

  • I bet if there were a free bicycle option, the tea party patty-cakes would protest it as "socialism/nazism/africanism/unamerican/communist/whatever"

  • A sure classic! Right on Ted!

  • The simple truth is that Architecture has sucked balls since after the 40s.

The retards with their post-idiotic mumbo jumbo have turned our cities in inhuman conglomerates of high-rising cocks and sterile boxes that drive people into alienation.

  • whatever you say, grandpa..

  • I absolutly love this!!!!!

But just asking, what does Obama have to do with really good architecture?

That island thing is really cool, too utopia like but still its good stuff.

  • Obama was mentioned because of the optimism he's generated in the midst of a global crisis, as for the island being "too utopia like", you'd be happy to know that 'zero emission' cities are being built/planned allover the world, you're just not paying attention.

  • fantastic presentation. Very danish accent though, (i'm from denmark).

  • bump eet up! girly men. brilliant guy though

  • How can you have H. C. Andersen and now The Ugly Duckling?

  • OUTSTANDING!

  • brilliant man. he sounds like Arnold though :)

  • gah, his accent.....

  • that gherkin building in London really does look like a weird dildo. what the hell were they thinking?

  • Wonderful.

  • ha - did he say a sex tool?

  • Am I the only one who that modern architecture is stunningly beautiful, but sometimes... ugly? I guess that's the price you pay for being brave. I think it's too much asymmetry that sometimes does them in.

  • just a random thought. the only concept I know I don't like is the trapezoid balconies.

  • hehe yeah, they kinda look like a spiky wall of death and I've learned to avoid those since I was kid due to video games =)

  • you too lol

  • nobody laughed at his opening joke! hahahaha! I felt alone!

  • "architectural alchemy"...

Bjarke is the man! He's brilliant and hilarious.

  • I would like to see more of this in the future.

  • Yeah I saw this and I cursed our conservative way of life-we do this to ourselves if we all embraced new ideas and used then to benefit society genius becomes the norm, i just love those buildings and he is truely inspiring :)

  • Bjarke Ingels is my new favorite Architect. He's like a new age Frank Lloyd Wright!

  • Truly gifted guy.

  • Great video, just horribly encoded.

    What happened?

  • thats some amzing achitecture and design. inspireing stuff!!

  • wow that library is sick!

  • can't be seen from the moon dumbass

  • arnold's son? jk ;)

  • Why cant all new buildings be designed in this way?

  • man, I learn more watching TED talks than I do here in graduate school.

  • Awesome presentation, great project, and Bjarke really sounds alot like Arnold Schwarzenegger. Well Done

  • Yes, when he started speaking i thought he was German because of the accent then i saw he is Danish. Do Danish and German sound alike? I never thought so but maybe the two languages have the same intonation.. Anyway the guy is a genius.

  • wow

  • entertaining talk and very inspiring projects.

  • The apparent width of the Great Wall from the moon is the same as that of a human hair viewed from 2 miles away. To see the wall from the moon would require spatial resolution 17,000 times better than normal (20/20) vision. Unsurprisingly, no lunar astronaut has ever claimed seeing the Great Wall from the moon.

  • Excellent.

  • Run Bjarke Run!

  • The apartment building/carpark Mountain project was awesome and really typifies the thoughts i have when ever I see a new carpark building go up :S

  • Socialism can only work if it rids itself of parasites, both ones on top and bottom. Sustainability is dependent on policies that punish parasitism and "need", not reward it like Marx's anti-nature "from... ability, to ... need".

  • Functional architecture should not be designed as sculpture. I've never liked architecture that starts with "inspiration". Lets build something that looks like a... flower pot, a car, sailboat etc. etc. Architecture should be about elegant design based on the site, climate, native materials, and purpose. The architecture in this video, while very intriguing should stay where it is, in a virtual world.

  • Totally agree. His talk was good but my reaction to all this modern architecture has always been that they make it look abstract just because they can. Most of it looks like chunks of metal and concrete thrown together. Aren't there architects out there that can push boundaries while creating elegant architecture? must it always look like some abstract sculpture?

  • What do you mean by elegant architecture? Bjarke mentions in his presentation of what avante garde means to the architecturural world be it classical or popular. The world of architecture is vast with different classes of architects ranging from old world to your basic cookie cutter style sub urban homes. Avante guard fits in as 1% of the that world.

  • I didn't know that ah-nold did architecture. lol. but seriously, no disrespect, a lot of these ideas are great.

  • well done

  • in before mindless creationist rambling.

  • GTFO my youtube...

  • LOLOLOLOLOL no

my joke was entirely valid...they used the word "evolution" in the video, so it's bound to happen, you know :P

  • awesome

  • VERY interesting!!

  • SORT OF!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • First time in years I enjoyed an architectural talk. Thanks!

  • see wikipedia: /wiki/Great_Wall_of_China#Visibility_from_the_moon

  • everybody knows it's an urban myth by now, but old myths die hard. :P

  • This is fascinating! They're actually transforming a desert island

  • looks like ted haggard

  • 16:12 Is just amazing, no doubt.

  • He sounds like a well educated Arnold Shwarzennegar

  • Who's been kicked in the nuts.

...The designs are great though. I like that first bit where they are shuffling through the ideas, the one they eventually come up somehow far surpassing the rest of them - almost as if they had a late arrival.

    You seen this:

    watch?v=ZPBvFXf9Q2U

Pablo Francisco doing Arnie. Oldschool but your comment reminded me of it.

    Peace : )

  • wow amazing

  • AAAAAAAAaaaaaarrrrnold

  • amazing

  • The most interesting portion is his last story, starting at 14:08

  • That's a good T-shirt for giving a speech in.

  • Wow, absolutely awe inspiring!

  • At first the myth is that you can see the Great Wall from space. Now you can see if from the Moon!!! Strange how these myths just grow and grow.

  • sounds like arnold...

  • is this the governators more intelligent older bruder.

  • Nah, he's Danish, not Austrian.

  • younger brother even

  • Great video, but I don't really agree with the choice of using the Twin Peaks-soundtrack - it probably has some deep, and perhaps disturbing, connotations to anyone who actually watched the series.

That certainly is the case for me.

  • yeah this guy is wicked!!

  • That final development is absolutely amazing.

  • The buildings on the islands look absolutely stunning, i'll have to give that a visit when i've come of age. The speech itself was inspiring, i hope we see more of this globally.

  • One of the best talks I have been aware of! Priceless.

  • lol his accent is amusing :D often ends sentences with a high pitch making it sound like a question :D

    Also the speech was inspiring

  • haha True
