When was this filmed? I wonder how much has changed since. I'm concerned about how the patients were/weren't able to give consent to be filmed. It's a very interesting documentary, but I dunno... it's uncomfortable to watch. I have a long psychiatric history, and live in the UK, so this seems pretty different to me. No one is tied down here, even the most agitated patients.
@lisacs83 This was made in 2000. Keep in mind this was done for television, so it will tend to show unusual cases rather than the norm. Bellevue is very busy and has to handle the worst cases in New York city. This should not be considered the norm for the entire USA.
In Los Angeles they just put people in prison,I could never do this job.
