With all due respect to de la Rocha and co., they probably finished this show and went back to their five star hotel rooms, ordered room service and went to sleep in each of their individual bedrooms. I just find it slightly inane that they would, for all those years, pretend to be "of" these people and their sufferings, when the only violence and injustice they know is from books and journal articles. In all honesty, I'm not convinced beyond a fraction of this band's liberalist values.

Now I'm all about freedom of speech (and an Independent) nor do I support the use of excessive force by law enforcement but, uh, if you go back and watch pre-recorded clips, it actually was the crowd who provoked the police. Plus, if your trying to demonstrate your constitutionally protected rights, why would you burn an American flag and rock out to a band that has pictures of Che Guevara, a known socialist, plastered all over their amps?

If you watch the entire convention you will see that the crowd did NOT instigate the violence or give those police any rational reason to open fire on that crowd. They were militantly protesting on the OPPOSITE side of the fence and the police continually shot rubber bullets from the start. Then the chief of police there stated that the crowd had fire, glass bottles, stones, and rocks and that they were throwing these projectiles at the police. That was a total, blatant lie, had no weapons.
