Guy I was also there that day I was watching from the stands though .... It happened a while ago but I can recall everything that happens from that day... I remember the helicopter landing there but it was too late...rip Steve .
I was there at the race that day watched it happen live.just sat down and ate hot dog when he took off.He was haulin ass and did win the race.First time I've seen this in years since being there. And yes by the time the copter got there he was pronounced passed on .R.I.P.
man that is tragic... But like u said sideler, at least he died doing what he loved, he prolly had a smile on his face. R.I.P Mr. Grebeck. And my symapthys to the friends and family of this fallen hero.
I love steve but he got outta control which means him and the team werent on the same page which means when u use a monster like that u gotta think about innocent people
I've never been a fan of guardrail strips for this reason, and several other crashes where the cars shot over (or in the NHRA's case) UNDER the rails.
Steve was the nicest guy you would have ever met... we met him at The World Street Nationals... and the first time we talked to the guy he invited us to his trailor and rig for some bar b-que chicken.... then the next day he was killed wow!!! really sucked :( R.I.P STEVE
I watched steve at Mobil One World Ford Challange and @ Beach Bend. He seemed like a great guy that was on top of his game in Pro 5.0 he will be missed for sure!
Thanks for the memories Steve! You will be missed, and remembered as one of the best. I remember you setting a record at maple grove, Reading,PA 6.77@208...Great times to remember being present for! RIP
wow that was steve grebec. one of the pioneers of turbo cars. i was not aware there was a video of this! turbo cars would be alot faster if he was still here. a true innovator. the retarded comments below do not even warrent a response.
a fallen racer is a hero to me ! Anyone that races on the drag strip has courage beoynd belief and i feel for anyone that has lost a family memeber / friend however i will always love drag racing
He did not die from the fire or the gaurdrail. The other driver hit him under his seat and the force of the impact is what killed him. I was there at the end of the track and saw the whole thing happen. The sad part was when the crew was holding his wife back from his car.R.I.P. Steve
That man had balls of steel. I take my hat off to anyone who does this sport! Bravest men alive, his family, friends, team mates and supporters should all be proud of how well he did in his career. Respect to him and rest in peace, at least there are no dangers where you now lie! (bet you he is still racing up there!)
To Steve who will always have a place in my heart. A man with many talents.
I would watch him for many hours a day building racecars from the frame to finishline. I only found out a year ago about his death. I never saw the video til now, what a tragedy.
I am deeply saddened for his familys loss. RIP STEVE
The Good Lord must have a car he needs tuned and he called the very best around man around home to do the job. Steve left this world doing what he loved to do. RIP my brother.
you have no respect for the family do u ass take this off rate now or i will pull it myself got dum ass or at lesed make a turbut in stade you said (Single Turbo Mustang (PRO-MOD) Crash & Burn) he was killed by the seat belts nothing else so please if you leve it up just change THE FUCKIN NAME got it good
jama7913m: He was killed by the seat belts, & the seat belts only??? Oh... I didn't know you were on site at this race track the day Steve died. I'm sure his death had nothing to do with the fact that the car rolled itself at over 200mph. P.S. You're a fucking idiot.
y im i a fuckin idiot and no it had nothing to do with the fact that the car rolled itself at over 200mph ps my real name is jon(jack)walter and no i was not there but his funeral was on my birth day march 8th so yes the seat belts are the only thing that killed him so pat Musi
,Marc Dantony ,and all of the nsca, nmca, and fun ford were there so dont say that i dont no any thing about Steve Grebeck my father was the one who toke pat and marcs family k.
I met Steve at an NMCA race in Cordova, Ill. He was a really nice guy. As for how he died, when his car went up on two wheels the other car hit it in the floorpan which caused his body to be forced upwards. His helmet was slammed against the rollcage with such force that it broke his neck and killed him. RIP Steve.
@slitheringinterstate it is my understanding that his seat belt ripped the aorta off his heart in his chest and was killed instanly.....and to anwser ur question when he hit the other car and rolled over the wall is when it happend steve was not wearing a hans device for it not mandated till 2008 some people think that was contrbuter also
I am a drag racer and will be until the day I die. Though I never knew Steve I am sure than his friends and family would agree that he passed away doing something that makes him happier than anything in the world (drag racing). God bless you brother!
I was there the day it happened....actually, I'm a bit surprised that this vid is still to be found on the internet. Seemed like everyone removed it out of respect....Such a sad thing to see again..
dsturbd: My intention in posting this video was never to disrespect Steve Grebeck. He was the Michael Jordan, the Tiger Woods, the Mickey Mantle of Drag Racing. As far as I'm concerned he will be looked at in the respect for decades to come...
I guess I worded that incorrectly..I didn't mean that you were direspcting him, just when it disappeared, that was the reason given for it being removed...which was understandable. I agree, Steve was a pioneer in this sport...man, and he was kicking ass too that year! I was actually at the race at the beginning of the vid too, that was the Hot Rod Powerfest held at Moroso the weekend before he died in Orlando.
Damn, 500 word max...the rest of what I was typing..
Turbos sure gained some popularity that year due to his combo..man people copied the front mount and the nose of the car as well....He'll definitely be remembered!
Yeah, definitely Steve Grebeck... I remember reading about this after it happened. I followed his career in the magazines but never got a chance to see him race. Such a shame, he was dynamite
