  • me and my dad used to race with him until he went to a higher class

  • gaurdrail dragstrips should be banned Period!

  • I've never been a fan of guardrail strips for this reason, and several other crashes where the cars shot over (or in the NHRA's case) UNDER the rails.

  • Steve was the nicest guy you would have ever met... we met him at The World Street Nationals... and the first time we talked to the guy he invited us to his trailor and rig for some bar b-que chicken.... then the next day he was killed wow!!! really sucked :( R.I.P STEVE

    RIP steve

  • This is the reality of Motorsports. The driver knows this can hapen every time he gets in the seat

  • He did not die from the fire or the gaurdrail. The other driver hit him under his seat and the force of the impact is what killed him. I was there at the end of the track and saw the whole thing happen. The sad part was when the crew was holding his wife back from his car.R.I.P. Steve

  • man the safety team took forever to get there, at my track there always there almost before it comes to rest RIP

  • That man had balls of steel. I take my hat off to anyone who does this sport! Bravest men alive, his family, friends, team mates and supporters should all be proud of how well he did in his career. I would watch him for many hours a day building racecars from the frame to finishline. I only found out a year ago about his death. I never saw the video til now, what a tragedy.

  • jama7913m: He was killed by the seat belts, & the seat belts only??? Oh... I didn't know you were on site at this race track the day Steve died. I'm sure his death had nothing to do with the fact that the car rolled itself at over 200mph. P.S. You're a fucking idiot.

  • y im i a fuckin idiot and no it had nothing to do with the fact that the car rolled itself at over 200mph ps my real name is jon(jack)walter and no i was not there but his funeral was on my birth day march 8th so yes the seat belts are the only thing that killed him so pat Musi

,Marc Dantony ,and all of the nsca, nmca, and fun ford were there so dont say that i dont no any thing about Steve Grebeck my father was the one who toke pat and marcs family k.

  • And what would have happened if he wasnt wearing the seatbelts? Oh thats right he would have been pinballed around inside the car at 200mph.

    RIP dude

  • Does jama7913m translate to (J)ust (A)nother (M)entalmidget (A)sshole? You are stump-stupid (that means your not very bright)

  • im a senor at north side high jama means (j)esus

(A)nd (M)e (A)lways my dad is the pastor of jama

so dont u ever talk about my parents ministry

Your parents ministry is a joke. Just like a TV preacher.I have great BIG balls you illerate jiggaboo...

  • @jama7913m Are you all there?

  • @Mightierthanever what do you mean

  • knew him from the old days when he had just left roush. awesome guy and loved racing. awesome head guy on fords. he knew the tricks

  • I remember reading about this wreck in 5.0 magazine. Sucks :(

  • I met Steve at an NMCA race in Cordova, Ill. He was a really nice guy. As for how he died, when his car went up on two wheels the other car hit it in the floorpan which caused his body to be forced upwards. His helmet was slammed against the rollcage with such force that it broke his neck and killed him. RIP Steve.

  • Does anyone know what Steve injuries Steve died of? I don't see any blunt impact in the crash...just a barrell roll...what caused his death?

  • hmmmmmmm maybe the FIRE caused it???

  • Yeah, i know right. But always remember, the good die young

  • @slitheringinterstate he was knocked out in a car that was engulfed in flames take a wild guess

  • @slitheringinterstate it is my understanding that his seat belt ripped the aorta off his heart in his chest and was killed instanly.....and to anwser ur question when he hit the other car and rolled over the wall is when it happend steve was not wearing a hans device for it not mandated till 2008 some people think that was contrbuter also

  • I am a drag racer and will be until the day I die. Though I never knew Steve I am sure than his friends and family would agree that he passed away doing something that makes him happier than anything in the world (drag racing). God bless you brother!

  • aight, its sick to see something like that happen in the exact lane where I got my fastest time!

way back (probably before this happened) was gonna devot most of my time as a racer. Im glad I didnt.. it aint worth it!

  • RIP Steve...

  • I was there the day it happened....actually, I'm a bit surprised that this vid is still to be found on the internet. Seemed like everyone removed it out of respect....Such a sad thing to see again..

  • dsturbd: My intention in posting this video was never to disrespect Steve Grebeck. He was the Michael Jordan, the Tiger Woods, the Mickey Mantle of Drag Racing. As far as I'm concerned he will be looked at in the respect for decades to come...

  • P.S. Steve Grebeck ACTUALLY Won That Race.

  • I guess I worded that incorrectly..I didn't mean that you were direspcting him, just when it disappeared, that was the reason given for it being removed...which was understandable. I agree, Steve was a pioneer in this sport...man, and he was kicking ass too that year! I was actually at the race at the beginning of the vid too, that was the Hot Rod Powerfest held at Moroso the weekend before he died in Orlando.

  • Damn, 500 word max...the rest of what I was typing..

Turbos sure gained some popularity that year due to his combo..man people copied the front mount and the nose of the car as well....He'll definitely be remembered!

  • yeah Steve was my cuz... alot older than me but still family... ill miss you much steve!!

  • Such a great loss in the racing community. RIP

    Steve.

  • RIP.

  • Steve Grebeck......light years ahead of 99% of racers.

  • Yeah, definitely Steve Grebeck... I remember reading about this after it happened. I followed his career in the magazines but never got a chance to see him race. Such a shame, he was dynamite

  • Fast cars and dangerous times. RIP, sounded like a very cool guy to hang out with, and to work with.

  • Im sorry to see that so much knowledge and spirit was lost in this accident. Ol' boy sure could build a 'stang tho. R.I.P.

  • I went to jr and high school with steve in livonia mi, He was a good guy, very sad

  • shit dog that sucks

  • atleast he died doing what he loved

  • Very sad.

  • R.I.P

  • I've updated the info box to the right of this video. It explains the life of Steve Grebeck - R.I.P
