I often wonder why they never pursued Roger building his empire-instead it was the whole Jenna taking over Spaulding story..but even after that, we never saw this come to fruition. I suppose Beverlee McKinsey leaving made the writers change the story?
@liamhen Roger's dream of an empire was always there in the background. He kept changing things up as his family grew (like adding in places for his grandchildren). But you're right that we never saw anything actually come to being. I wonder if tptb even really had an idea, or if that was just Roger's grand plan that kept him moving forward as a character.
Roger and Holly were so messed up, Blake didn't stand a chance. LOL I felt bad for Blake when she told Hart that she thought Roger had done so much more for Hart than he ever did for her. If she tried to please Roger, she disappointed Holly, and vice versa. And then Blake never felt that either parent was really satisfied with her. I wish soaps were still character-driven like this.
I hate this plot-driven crap that GL is using now. I mean, look at real life, people do things because of how THEY are. That's what I loved about the show, up until recently that is.
Seeing this story again in order reminded me how complicated, yet good, it was in a very short period of time. What made it good was a simple plot, but complicated character interactions. You can see Ross and Blake being conflicted, as they respond to this new situation they're in.
ITA about GL being so plot-driven now - Blake has been plot-driven since Ross "died". That is, when they bother to use her.
I love this scene with Blake and Roger. She is so beautiful...her face just is so expressive; she doesn't have to speak for us to see exactly what she is feeling. Man, the parent issues she had! Thanks so much for posting! I appreciate your hard work.

That is exactly why Blake had (and still does) self-esteem issues!
