"Growing up could be good fun if you get to be in a band, jumping arround on a beach with a mannequin!" Noel Fielding about Syd and this video, 2 great people, R.I.P Syd. x
@DavidMRyanMD This is their first single, it's not on the album. The song was recorded at Joe Boyd's with Candy and a currant bun, the B side. The album was recorded a few months later by Norman Smith at abbey road. Both records have been realesed on EMI.
damn, there is great difference between this pink floyd, dark side of the moon pink floyd, animals and wish you were here floyd (between last two, not SO much) and the wall /final cut floyd!!!!
What did Syd in was lsd and huge doses of it given to him almost every morning by this couple that he knew in his tea. What friends they were! Its been said that when Syd would be high on acid, even an orange would appear like planet earth to him...talk about a trip!

Syd had issues which chafed at the rest of the band (anyone know the story of "Have You Got It Yet?") The bottom line is, Syd didn't adapt well to the role of rock star, and the others did. Whether Syd's behavior was intentional or pathological is moot. It posed grave risk to the Floyd's future, and so one day they didn't bother to pick him up for a gig. Business is business. Hippie bands, unlike Beats, could think of nothing but fame and fortune.
I hold it against Kurt that he never acknowledged Syd as a partner in crime. Look at Kurts first In Bloom video- black and white beach footage- lazy goofing off- the use of minor chord progressions to complete the melody- I know Syd was a heavy influence on Kurdt.
That's what I've said and people are like;"How dare you!". Have they never listened to Wined and Dined? OMG, anyone who doesn't acknowledge that Cobain took parts of Syd's music, and called it his own,is in denial. As I see it,this is "sampling" and Syd's estate is owed payment for it( but Courtney Love deserves it more I suppose).
you dont know what your talking about. good lord get a life man. what the fuck are you talking about?? is the bed thing a joke?? your a douche arent you? not many friends? tell your mom hey for me!
This really made my day. I had a cat, named after Syd, who was killed on Wednesday, August 1. To put it frankly, that cat's something I can't explain...I loved him and am still devastated. Yet seeing the person Syd so happy and in his truest-bluest form...it really does something for the spirit.
and maybe you can ask them all why no-one visited syd once HE VISITED THEM ONCE IN THE STUDIO in '76 and otheR than that not one word was exchanged between them roger heard what i said and i stand by it tell him to read this HEY ROGER I THINK I ALREADY KNEW WAR WAS A DRAG OK? THANKS FER YER NIGHTMARE FER 30 FRIKKIN YEARS
the reason they never visited after the visit at abbey road was because after that syd requested not to see anyone from his youth because it upset him. and i heard nick say once, "i sent him a christmas and birthday letter every year. with no letter in return." and as for your comment about roger...i wont call anyone to tell them what you think. its long distance and your not worth the money.
his sister said that because he really did say that. remember man, your the 50 yr old in midlife crisis arguing with a teenager over the internet...and your story was as pointless as your entire life. oh and go down stairs and ask your mom for money, since you do live with her. and go buy another dildo to stick up your ass.
THIS IS THE ARNOLD LAYNE VIDEO ROGER WATERS SHOWED, ON A BIG SCREEN, DURING HIS 1988 RADIO K.A.O.S. TOUR at the end of this video in oakland, california (the only show, of the whole tour, that sold out) some asshole screamed: "TOO BAD YA CAN'T WITE 'EM LIKE THAT, ANYMORE, ROGERRRRRRRRRRR!" it was just after the music died and the screaming ovation died down.... you could hear it throughout the whole auditorium GUESS WHO IT WAS... (HE HEEEE HEEEEEEEEEE!)
haha. over my head...im related to nick mason. ive met most of pink floyd, except syd ofcourse. and friend, just a misunderstanding, you should be more clear when insulting great musicians.
and it depends on your take on the song to decide if its nightmarish. Roger writes a lot of deep lyrics, he tries to have songs that are relavent for his life and everyone elses. i think he has done a great job.
bro i clearly said: "some asshole yelled out..." if i didn't love the way roger USED too write songs like JULIA DREAM and STETHESCOPE etc I wouldn't be pissed at his fine (but dreary-depressing, and nightmarish) songs after and including dsotm after syd phase II floyd was cool till dsotm then they let roger take over and he went dreary it wasn't an enjoyable band after that for me i had to let roger know how i felt
Does it matter if one likes psychidelic or experimental rock better? Early Floyd was simply different, not better, not worse. Which is which is just a matter of mood and taste.
Now damn, look at Syd go! He was brilliant lad and a might playful to. He was the early predisesor to punk or dare I say emo. Watch, "learn" & enjoy!
This was the song & the video that got me into Pink Floyd back in the summer of 2001. I bought "Echoes-The Very Best Of Pink Floyd" just for that song. I ended up destroying it!
One of the first 'concept videos' along with The Who's "Happy Jack."
This version of the song is faster than the usual one. I like this one better. I think a lot of people would agree with me if I said Pink Floyd was a much better band when Syd was with them.
I love watching these classic floyd vids on this site, ive never seen any of these before and the fact that you can find them all on you tube is just awesome. I wish music was still like this...
I always wonder how floyd would have been if syd had stayed in the band, how amazing the music would have been, considering how amazing it is without him, and then considering the wonder that is syd barrett. R.I.P.

DWYLBTZLE, that's rather mean. They had to drop him so he could rest. He was going insane and instable.
Rest of the band didn't wanna leave him. And they tried to contact him, but they didn't get to.
I think Dave, Rick, Nick and Roger would slap you across the face.

bottom line is syd went to the trouble to go visit them
and then no-one visited him
if a sick friend of mine was mentally ill and holed up in some basement
and his sister and his mommy said to leave him alone forever
i'd still show up and knock on his window
