Also, Norris or Palmer could've got to the blood easily. In the scene where Bennings is assimilated, he asks Windows to "go get the keys off of Gary". When Windows returns and sees what's happening, there's a very distinctive sound of keys being dropped to the floor. Anyone could've picked up those keys afterwards.

He says he wandered off because he thought he saw Blair, but my suspicion is that Blair was hiding in the generator room the whole time, and surprised him from behind. In the very original screenplay, Mac gives the bottle of scotch to Childs as a test to see whether he is still hesitant about sharing bodily fluids. He takes the swig nonchalantly, and Mac burns him with a flamethrower he's hidden.

In the `80s it was a bit of a young punk thing to do, but it`s weird on an older man. I remember thinking this in the `80s when I first saw the film.
