I don't actually think Passion Pit were around much when Tim+Jean started recording (early 2009). I remember attending one of their early festivals (after T+J had done JJJ Unearthed but not yet signed) and having to choose between seeing T+J or Passion Pit as they were performing at the same time.

Perhaps they sound similar because this kind of music is what people want ? :D
