  • Tony Blair has done nothing, oh apart from taking the u.k into a illegal war and feathering his own fucking nest, corruption is alive and well in the uk. Check out the Blairs buying of a flat in Bristol for thier son. Faith? have faith you cunt you should be hung for your crimes.

  • how much did blair charge for this night

  • Now that Christopher has passed away, we must do even more to stop religion and promote humanism.

  • Blair, the man who lied and lied to be allowed to slaughter 250,000 Iraqis. The perfect representative another man responsible for genocide after genocide.

  • There is no doubt that much great charitiable work is carried out by religious organisations. But the question is, whether religion simply gives with one hand, only to take away much more with the other.

  • @CyeOutsider Is the charitable work done because of the kindness of people or is it done because it 'guarantees' entrance into heaven?

  • @mannyftw In a perfect world i'd care, sadly this world isn't Personlly if I need help i'm not going to question the reasons as to why the person is helping me. Don't look a gift horse in the mouth ect.

  • @mannyftw - yes, that a frequently expressed argument. That is, that Christian/religious morality is always compromised by the fact that good deeds are required to be a good Christian (or whatever) and are not done for the good of the recipient or for its own good.

  • The debates does not start until 4:00 - just so you can skip the blather.

  • the thing about religious people is all they have is their superstitions, no evidence, no nothing but faith,, it's utterly useless. and more specifically, how can the grinning twat blair expect to out debate hitchens? it's absurd.

  • @S1elmx Well: not really: even a religious person can be a scientist also: just because someone has a theory or belief that God does not exist does not necessarily mean that the person has a monopoly on the truth in any and all situations :-)

  • Religion is a 'force' for good.................but , not the cult that Blair represents. It is the pagan religion of modern day. Many will say ' that is bigoted', please look into it first before spouting off. Plenty of research even on this site, if you are prepared to question what you have always been spoon fed.

  • starts at 4.20

  • @Anton6871 Thank you!

  • I miss Christopher Hitchens!

  • The JIA report in question confirmed there were weapons, including the potential for a 45 minute stike on Cyprus. The whole world at the time suspected Saddam of having weapons, it was hardly controversial to think this, even the UN had inspectors in the country for that reason. Blair did not lie, he was given information that turned out to be suspect by his security forces, but he relied on it, as did Parliament. As I say, where is your evidence (not opinions) that he acutally lied?

  • blair,suck up.i love hindu,muslim,pakky,anyone,give me the money x

  • IT WAS GEORGEDUBYA!

  • Hitchens won already. why are there 8 parts?

  • I had to stop from starting this for a while i just cant believe anyone would not say or conclude Blair is lier.

  • Bit rich for Blair a known lier and who took his country to war on a lie to be up there defending religion.

  • @escortmk112 how is blair a know lier..

  • @escortmk112 Sorry, Paliament voted to go to war with Iraq, not Blair. Get your facts right if you are going to criticise people.

  • @THthefirst Parliament was lied to by Blair, that was a fact which has been proven .

  • @escortmk112 No, it has not. Blair faced two independent judicial enquiries and was cleared by both. You do not have any evidence to say he lied. You simply do not like the man, for whatever reason, and I doubt if you have bothered to actually look at the detail of the Hutton enquiry, its findings, or any of the "facts", as you put them, but see the world in a very easy, simplistic, black and white fashion.

  • @THthefirst So he was never told there were no weapons of mass distruction by anyone before we were all told the oposite, Idont think so.

  • @THthefirst I read the Hutton Enquiry and agree it proves Blair was wrong to get the UK involved in an illegal war. I liked Tony Blair but whatever happened to Blair from 1997 when he gained power till George W Bush became President in 2000 has a great bearing on how I now see him. He was never really anything more than a snake oil salesman who sold his soul to Bush and Cheney.

  • In many respects this was a fairly pointless debate. All Blair and Hitch did was talk past one another.

  • @FGN123 - but the dabate was before an audience - 75% of which declared that they were open to changing their view, depending on what passed during the debate.

  • Christianity is indeed a group of people who are almost spiritual. As are the followers of all of the planets faiths. I would be embarrassed if Tony "I've got more blood on my hands than most in history" Blair was fighting my corner. Chris Hitchens was very good at debating. I'm not an Atheist as such, I just don't believe in a deity. We are all Infinite Consciousness.

  • RIP Christopher

  • The man who thinks there's no god debates the sleazebag who thinks he is god

  • It should have been "God : a Force for Good in the World?" Religion is the root of fanaticisim, nothing to do with God.

  • RIP ;(

  • RIP Mr. Hitchens. You will be missed.

  • LOVE CHRISTOPHER HITCHENS

  • Tony Blair is a scammer working with arabs doing business deals while using his political standing

  • does anyone else get bored when theist debaters speak?

  • @paegun yes rambling incoherent rhetoric and corollories have that effect on independent thinkers

  • I heard it's been getting better since 1997 because he spent more money than the Tories.

  • Never seen a man with less integrity than Tony Blair.

  • @Hohnetraz I think he is a very good man..

  • @Hohnetraz Actually given that he stood firm behind the Iraq War, because he believed it was right, despite massive public protest, which threatened to damage him, you could say in fact he has massive integrity.

  • @Hohnetraz

    David Cameron.

  • I find the laughter offencive.

  • @sakiel100 write a book about it

  • @sakiel100 Perhaps you should check out Christopher Hitchens with Stephen Fry regarding blasphemy...

  • stay with us Chris

  • @mindfield717 he died

  • @mindfield717 He is with us...in his books, at least.

  • You gotta hand it to Blair for volunteering to be Hitchens' speed bag. Normally, elder statesmen take great care not to put themselves in public situations where they play second fiddle.

The difference of oratory caliber becomes apparent about twenty seconds into Blair's introductory remarks, when he says 'faith-based' instead of 'religious.' By using that sneaky euphemism, he implicitly admits defeat from the very outset. If you can't say it out proud and strong, why should we believe you?

  • @ErikBramsen Good point!

  • At some points Hitchens sounds like Michael McIntyre

  • OMG, I USED TO WANT BLAIR DEAD, now I want him dead painfully and slowly for being an even more brain damaged wanker that I thought

  • Blair sucks

  • An Agnostic disliked this video

  • A million dumb fucks on the internet are a million vulgarians too many.

  • @MichaelStepkoff I take it you missed the irony of excoriating this debate for pomposity in one post, then using the term 'vulgarian' in the next?

  • What a pompous bunch of BS.

  • what was the motion? 22% believed religion was good or bad?

  • 4:24 The debate begins..

  • cant argue with blair or hitchens----ill just cuss the moderator until he shuts his big wind machine

  • @SamsSpaghetti

No, what good would that do? It would be about as effective as clicking my heels together and saying "There's no place like home" three times.

But thanks for giving me a yacht in your scenario, I've always wanted one of those. ^_^

  • yeah its the athiest that send people to war if some1 attacks u what are u just gonna stand there.75% are open minded. this guy full of shit since when does allah takes side in wars and saying women are inferior it can't say that about islam. And he takes the piss out of circumcision the dirty bastard

  • yeah its the athiest that send people to war if some1 attacks u what are u just gonna stand there.75% are open minded

  • @AdamKhanRs5 What do you mean? Blair, Bush and Howard are Christians and they sent people to war...

  • yeah its the athiest that send people to war if some1 attacks u what are u just gonna stand there

  • As Quartet Representative in the Middle East Blair accepted the $1m Dan David Prize for Zionism. Lord Levi, Blair's ME envoy described this acceptance as making his position 'untennable', but Blair retained his position.

Would you Adam and Eve it?

  • I wish for a lot of things in life, but no1 is a mind like hitch - just awesome.

  • 9:02 I honestly cried with laughter

  • Intro ends and Hitch starts at 4:20

  • "do unto others as they would do unto you " is a shitty rule if thats all the torah comes to.

Because thats just projecting your own desires onto someone else. You can't live your life like that.

we have to be sensetive to peoples individual needs, theyre not all the SAME.

like if youre a meat eater handing round steaks to vegetarians "oh well, thats what I'D want" what a load of SHIT

    a stupid way to live

  • Shouldn't they give them more comfortable seats than that? I mean they're the ones grilling each other, so they should relax instead of sitting on hard chairs.

  • Ultimate irony is Blair knows damn well that he is right in what he believes he will burn in hell for all eternity, since he is a war criminal murdering henchman. That being said since it's not real he's a lucky son of a bitch.

  • What was the motion? Was it: Religion is a force of good in the world. Or?

  • This was a good debate overall. I think Tony Blair did a good job defending a topic that can't be defended.

  • Tony Blair is the #2 living war criminal on this planet (after Bush/ Cheney war criminals of course!) Blair needs to be tried at the Hague for his lies and war crimes

  • 'arguing with the devil himself'...perfect, Blair represents the most EVIL example of human beings...he is nothing more than a murdering war criminal who deserves to be executed for his murderous war crimes along with George Bush (after a proper trial at the Hague of course, which would happen in a just world!)

  • Tony Blair is a war criminal, period...end of story (oh, and he's George Bush's bitch poodle, also)

  • tony blair and gordon brown sold britian down the river to this unelected european union, him and his elitists friends are TRAITORS!

  • skip to 4:23 (that's where debate starts)

  • I almost find it too embarrassing to continue past Hitchens opening.

  • goddammit there is really no debate in part 1 damn

  • @MaskedMarvyl you have chosen to ignore the fact that, while the church denounces condoms as evil, AIDS is spread through sex. those "poor, dying people" who might not be able to afford condoms anyway have aids because they had sex. what do you think would happen if they stopped having multiple sexual partners? well it was tried in Uganda and AIDS prevalence dropped from 21% to 6% in 5 years, and that was before condoms.

  • lol one butthurt religious person.

  • I often see theists argue that religious groups have helped many people, and that this is the reason that religion is good for the world. Perhaps, if we take a step back, we can ask a more pertinent question: Is it not possible that it is people that help people, regardless of religion or ideology?

  • I'm the fan of Christopher hitchens but it's funny that he thinks still he has hair @10:42 I'm glad he's fine now and I hope he stay to guide people for a long time. Viva

  • Tony, you have just been hitchslapped: please crawl into a hole and stay there

  • Of course Tony Blair wants religion to continue. He would go mad if people could think for themselves. It see's religion as a way to raise newly born children into subservient sheep who do what they are told because there God tells them too. Any parent who raises there child with a religion is a pathetic accuse as a parent. They do not love there children!

  • @manz900 Are you retarded?

  • @yano133 No I am not retarded. Tony is a power hungry war criminal. If people were smart enough to think for themselves and figure things out his way of living would change.

  • @yano133 no but you are a fucking delusional moron, asshole

  • Damn. Hitchens hasn't lost a step.

  • @WSilva832 did you happen to know hitchens has cancer?

  • @WSilva832 Hitch = Outstanding.

  • tony blair is a MASON.

  • Of course over 70 percent of the audience was willing to change their minds. We Canadians are open minded and believe in thought evolution as facts are collected.

  • It's going to be a long time before another atheist can fight their corner as well as Hitchens!

  • Arguing with the Devil himself (Blair) about religion is almost futile. It brings to mind the beginning of Bulgakov's classic novel The Master and Margarita.

  • Blair the crusader, your god may forgive you but many wont.

You & Bush can rest in your hell.

  • Blair the crusader, your god may forgive you but many wont.

  • plagarism = hitchens taking from paine ... God does not equal religion...

  • Atheism is a Religion, because you believe, you have faith there is no God without proof. When you die, it is only then you see the truth.

Go back to the definition of faith. Faith is believing in something without proof. Religion is a cause, principle, or system of beliefs held to with ardor and faith. Atheism is defined as the doctrine or belief that there is no God. Therefore Atheism is a religion.

    .

    Allen West 2012

  • @FreedomInAmerica Wrong. Why must religious people try to say that Atheism is a religion? We are merely telling you to prove your claims that a "God" exists in the first place. And since you have no evidence, we dismiss your claims. That is hardly the basis of religion. And whats with this whole "You will see when you die" crap?

You dont know what happens when you die any better than everyone else who is alive. Stop listening to other peoples imagination and claiming its true....

  • @HybridFreak412

    .

It's using basic critical thinking skills. Atheism is defined by Merriam Webster as the doctrine that there is no deity. You guys just don't have the proof. Atheism requires faith, because you believe in something without proof. A religion is merely a doctrine of beliefs. It does not require the belief in a deity.

    .

Our schools have failed to produce children with critical thinkings skills, because there is an art to being Liberal.

  • @FreedomInAmerica How is it a belief when the burden of proof is on those who claim something to be real? We merely say you have no evidence to support a claim of a god. The way youre saying it is implying that we have to provide the evidence for your claim, it doesnt work like that buddy. Thats a fallacious argument. If you cant figure that out then i dont know what to tell you. Its funny that you bring the liberals into this like it really matters what side of the political spectrum your on...

  • @HybridFreak412 It doesn't "work" either way, it's open to interpretation. God can neither be proved nor disproved. In all probability, no god exists. However that doesn't amount to proof that no exists. As such the most logical interpretation is not that no god exists, but that god probably doesn't exist

  • @FreedomInAmerica 100% wrong. Atheism has no doctrine of belief therefore cannot be a religion: it's an absence of theism from the value-systems of an individual. Nothing more.

  • @stamboni316

    .

Atheism is not an absence of theism. Atheism is the "doctrine of a belief" requiring faith that their is no deities. You lack proof, therefore it is your religion.

  • @FreedomInAmerica Your definitions are confused: 'a-theism' is the 'absence' ('a') of 'belief in god/s' ('theism'). Ask any etymologist. The word contains no inferrence on how that absence is achieved, it's a statement of a lack of a specific position not a position in itself. 'Faith that there are no deities' is part of 'anti-theism' which is a position requiring justification but even that contains no doctrine, it's just opposition to a doctrine.

  • Oh lord. Have I been hiding under a fucking rock, had no idea Hitchens battled cancer. Was shocked when I saw him in this debate, poor man. Why does such a brilliant mind have to be hit by such tragedy...

  • @foxyswedee

    well, he smoked a lot...

  • @lightsinthesky246 Ah figures. Sad sad

  • That hitchens got cancer instead of Blair is surely proof that there is no god.

  • this is a bad copy, distorted picture and sound, and in loads of parts. Watch the clean original all the way through under... watch?v=LP6R3R_UIH0

  • This is hilarious ... Hitchens is right, religion survives by connecting the status quo to the universe. That is a pretty strong strike against it.

  • I was at this!!!!!!!!!!

  • Hitchens starts at 4:24

  • Hitch doesn't look well :( Hope he overcomes the Cancer

  • Hitchens sound like an old record player. He has nothing to offer in the name of atheism. The quote from Apologia pro vita sua is completely distorted by Hitchens, just as expected .

  • I'm amazed. Christopher Hitchens is fighting his way trough HIS cancer to demolish the world's cancer. How admirable. What a man!

  • Lies and deceit can never be a force of good.

  • Condoms only serve to promote sexual intercourse. The condom is not 100% safe. Thus the promotion of the use of condoms promotes the spread of STDs as people wrongly assume they are 100% safe.

  • @EnglishG3nt "Condoms only serve to promote sexual intercourse"

Are you fucking stupid? Human genetics and biological imperatives promote sex you tard. You think that people will have sex less if condoms aren't present? Well there aren't too many condoms in Africa and they're fucking like rabbits over there, so much for your shitty argument.

As for your argument that condoms aren't 100% effective, neither are seat belts but they both sure as fuck increase the odds of a better outcome.

  • @Shadowlit001 Hmmm... We theist are sooo dumb! The insignificant shit stains who don’t believe in a deity are obviously waaay smarter than the billions of people who make up the rest of the world! If only we would all listen to “smart, educated” spanners like this fuckwit, only than would the world become a better place! A better place... Just like all the communist countries under atheist rule.

  • @Shadowlit001 Dickheads like this twat seriously believe all theists are simpletons. What he doesn’t realise is that atheist are the most narrow minded, most full of hatred and most fanatical people of all. One look through this wankers posts will show you that.

  • @stabblueroo

If you believe in unsubstantiated fairytales then yeah you are a fucking simpleton. You're the narrominded dipshit who doesn't won't listent to facts, logic or reason, you just keep making up bullshit excuses to justify your fucking "faith". Even the word faith is a joke, since it means you can't PROVE your beliefs.

And then you stupid theists try and force your religion on others to "save" them. What a crock of shit. Fuck you and fuck your imaginary god.

  • @Shadowlit001 The problem with what you've said is that some of the most brilliant, intelligent people in the world have been and are religious. And not all "theists" try to force their religion on others. But likewise some of the most brilliant have been atheist and agnostic

Sweeping, unsubstantiated statements don't prove anything, made by advocates of atheism, theism, or in my case, agnosticism.

But NB, those most preoccupied with thoughts of God are religious fundamentalists and atheists

  • 0 dumb-asses have watched this video.

  • "Handed a small baby for the first time, is it your first reaction to think: "Beautiful, almost perfect! Now, please hand me the sharp stone for its genitalia that I may do work of the Lord."

Hitchens is brilliant and clear, even dealing with sever illness. Blair is a dullard next to Hitchens.

  • hitchens is sick but he still owns

  • I can find many wrongs in what Hitchins says, I'm not sure he fully understands the bible or else he does fully understand it but plays on the fact that many people in the audience may not understand and therefore is able to quote or state parts of it but fails to go further and complete the outcome.

However I fear Tony Blair simply can't match him in terms of presentation.

I agree with Hitchins on the Roman Catholic church, their corrupt and that is why the Protestant faith was born.

  • @51wins

Can't help but notice that you don't actually give any examples of Hitchens using the bible inaccurately. I certainly hope you don't think he doesn't understand it on the grounds that he thinks it contains factually inaccurate and immoral teachings... because it simply does.

Also, protestantism can be just as bad or worse than the catholic church. After all, it is based off the same book of nonsense.

  • @blackplatypus

There are loads of examples and a couple I believe in this video (part 2) where he refers to the bible and does quote from it but fails to understand the context and meaning that the quote was taken from. What he states and then explains isn't the correct meaning.

In other words he is either misinterpreting the scripture or playing on the fact that many may not know scripture and therefore won't actually know the contact in which it was said.

  • @51wins

Once again... examples? You can say there are "loads of examples" but you're yet to quote one. Voicing vague complaints about "context" is nonsense when you haven't specified what it is you're complaining about.

Also, I find that invariably when I hear the term "misinterpreting" what is inevitably meant is "coming to a conclusion other than my own" and if that's what you mean, you can hardly expect anyone to take that kind of arrogance seriously.

  • @blackplatypus nice response

  • @blackplatypus Thank you for the call to evidence.

  • ah yes Hitchins who discribed Zionism as a farming experiment in Israel

  • 2/2 Hitchens was literally sitting on the edge of his seat while they were making introductions. Outside, there was a small protest going on. They were protesting against Tony Blair. They were yelling things such as, ''Blair lied! Troops died! Troops out now!''. With small signs showing the same messages. They made us go through metal detectors when we got in. Sadly, no book signing, even though both debaters have new books out. They rushed them outa there fast the second the debate was over.

  • 1/2 I was at this debate, so I can provide a few little bonuses of sorts. Christopher is much skinnier than he looks here. He is wearing the same clothes that he did when he was more than 15 pounds heavier. I don't blame him. He lost the weight so fast, plus he has so much other stuff to do that shopping isn't one of his priorities. But wearing large clothing makes him look sicker and skinnier. The papers he used during the debate are bright green.

  • I am sad to see hitchens like that. I wasn't even able to recognized him.

  • You almost have to think that Blair didn't research who the Hitch was before agreeing to this debate. I mean, Hitchens has been mopping the floor with men much smarting than Blair for years...I think Blair has as much debating skills as my mom. It's like my mom going up against Hitchens... I almost feel bad watching it, but I really want to see Blair get Hitch-slapped...

  • I cant believe I didn't hear about this debate until the night of. Would totally have gone. I hope I did not miss my only chance to see Hitchens live in person. I also can't imagine he comes up to toronto much...

  • how ironic mr. blair to say "do onto others as you would have them do onto you".....

  • That is right, created sick and ordered to be well. Has he got any plan or idea to re-create the world and the human race again himself? Religion is not a problem, fanaticism and luck of dialogue is a problem. Anyway, just my opinion, invite you not to send any confrontational reply, please.

  • This is what the internet does best, bringing the clash of ideas to the entire planet. Everyone should watch this.

  • This has to get soooooo tedious for Christopher Hitchens to have to constantly squash religious folks with such readily available information and arguments.

  • Tony Blair can now truly be considered a victim of the most brutal verbal rape I have ever witnessed. Sheerly outclassed by Mr. Hitchens. Bravo, sir.

  • Jesus this crowd irritates me, bunch of elitish snobby will-laugh-with-everything-to-be-hip douchebags.

  • Blair looks like he's chewing his words, which makes sense - they're full of shit, and go well with his shit-eating grin

    Nice bloke though

  • Is it possible to look any smugger than TB

  • @kusaby99 Simon Cowell! =)

  • Poor Hitch - he lost so much weight.

  • 11:43 Blair must be thinking, "Shit...how can I possibly top that?" Answer: you can't Tony. You're bright in a cunning, animal-like, politician way but you're no match for the intellectually titanic truth-seeker that is Mr Christopher Hitchens- one of the greatest thinkers of our time. I hope so very much that he beats the fucking cancer.

  • @rudeboy80 The western worlds most beautiful buildings, in my opinion is the skyline of New York. America was founded on a separation of church from state, by not-theists. Science has flourished when freed from religion, and millions of non-believers around the world, perform countless acts of kindness everyday, for no other reason than human care. Why, did you say we needed religion?

  • @rudeboy80 All of those things are possible without dogma or superstition.

  • logic - there is no god - wrong

  • logic - there is no god - wrong

  • @dm3678 logic dictates that there probably isn't a god. there's no way to prove there isn't a god because 1. nobody can decide on which criteria defines a god and 2. there are no gods in order to test this criteria on.

i'm virtually certain about one thing though, no "god" any human has every spoken/written about exists. it's all bullshit.
