Now the high schools are just piling the students with homework and information to know for exams. Student's don't have time to care about that anymore. They need to stuff all the information into their brains within a short timespan somehow, and forget about it to make room for the next loads of information coming through. Also, most classes fail at sparking interest.
In a basic public high school, the material we learn is not really focused too much on current affairs. I think the closest to that I took was world history, world geography, humanities, american government, and economics. That's it, those were our choices, and they weren't as extensive as a class universities provide.
I admit I don't know a lot about other countries, their exact locations, their people, language and their leaders, but I do try and learn the best I can. :)

One can agree argue that the other party is stupid, and their own is smart. However it is far more likely that they are both full of smart and stupid people, like any group. Republicans are for smaller-less central government and large and private economies. Democrats are for large centralized governments and small central economies.

They need to stuff all the information into their brains within a short timespan somehow, and forget about it to make room for the next loads of information coming through. I agree with him.
In a basic public high school, the material we learn is not really focused too much on current affairs. I think the closest to that I took was world history, world geography, humanities, american government, and economics. That's it, those were our choices, and they weren't as extensive as a class universities provide.
I admit I don't know a lot about other countries, their exact locations, their people, language and their leaders, but I do try and learn the best I can. :)

I was taught that the war on terror was a righteous act and that it was a strong point in bush's presidency, which is why what I learn in school I allow to stick in my head only long enough for tests.

americans don;t know much about the rest of the world because they simply have been the dominant super power for so darn long that they got used to that whole world revolves around america so all you need to really know is america. this being coupled with biased media (fox) and the fact that many people in the main stream american culture are stubborn to change would of enivitably lead them to be this way

This is true I suppose, but America is not all dummies. Most of the teens he "interviewed" obviously didn't look like scholars. I'm 13, and I could name those people, except the K-Fed dude. Most of the people in my school could, too. You could single out a few Americans that you see on the street to prove your point, but not every American is clouded in ignorance. In fact, a large majority isn't, and other countries need to realize that.

@Vindaver2469 I see you like Kant's ideas. Unfortunate for his pessimistic views, there is no perfect human being that can decide what's best in, say, a monarchy. Because of that, I'd rather have democracy as the best bet. The problem is, most Republicans, I believe, are more active than Democrats due to indecision. It's only because of that and the overabundance of these idiotic Republicans that make America look bad.

keeping yourself updated with the news and event around the world is important, but america is the shitter right now, and families have too much to worry about then what is going on half a world away, because it doesnt effect them directly. bye the way it was never said who those people were or what they did for the world. so im assuming it wouldnt improve my life from knowing them. people in america and the uk and japan are too lazy now adays, but do they have a reason not to be?
