I don't think she needed to go all out on her extensions here. It kind of ruins the upper body and smoothness for me...but she IS a fantastic dancer. Her Carmen is incredible.
Svetlana is amazing in some roles, especially in La Fille du pharon. i really loved her in that, but Giselle is not her ballet. She has no taste when it comes to this role!
zakharova is SVETLANA ZAKHAROVA thanks to her flexibility and that different that she has from the others.....
we adore her because we admire that she can combine contemporary with ballet in an excellent way....and that she can control her moves, so that her height and flexibility are not annoying.....
Giselle is straining...the queen of the Wilis is making her do this dance. That fact that this is a difficult adagio is important because it shows how strained and upset and helpless Giselle is. She should be pushing her arabesques and extensions because this adagio isn't supposed to be simply beautiful lines.
She is a wonderful dancer, but I think (especially in the Giselle wili scenes) that if the extensions make the dancer look strained, then they should be lowered to maintain the expressive idea.

as much as i like Zakharova, i think she's overdoing the extentions. i'd rather watch someone (like alina cojocaru) with a not-too-high arabesque or developpe that still draws to the dancer's artistry, rather than someone with a freakishly high arabesque that distracts from everything.
@Kata397533 i agree yet disagree at the same time. yes it's distracting, and in a way, it doesn't look pretty anymore, it just looks unnatural... but extensions like that are pretty much what every ballerina aspires to do one day. if i had extensions like that, i'd be doing them all the time, they are beautiful in a freakish way.
@Kata397533 I usually think the higher the extensions, the more beautiful, that's one of the things i love most about Zakharova is her beautiful flexibility but i don't think she over does it... Somova overdoes it... But i really love how high she gets her extensions, in everything, not just Giselle but in all the videos of her. I think the closer to the ear you are the more beautiful it is, but i mean that's just me

Zakharova is undeniably a fantastic and beautiful dancer! The only issue that arises in her variations is her most commonly noted attribute. Her extensions. THEY ARE FABULOUS! But sadly the extension distracts from her artistry. People don't watch her arms & upper body when watching Svetlana dance. Actually, it's near impossible to watch anything but her insane extension. But, this is definitely not her fault. This kind of flexibility (mostly) comes naturally. She's still insanely talented!! :)
She's the embodiment of beauty, poetry and perfection. The best swan, Nikiya and Giselle I've ever seen. Her Giselle always makes me want to cry. Out of this world - simply divine.
