Lord Vishnu took birth in human form (avatars) many times to curb evil forces. Rama & Krishna are 2main avatars of Lord Vishnu. In Southern India, Lord Vishnu is commonly known as "Lord Venkateshwara" & in Eastern India Lord Vishnu is known as "Jagannath" (Puri Jagannath).
