There is an alternative to this type of showing what hell is like is called reading the Bible it describes Hell.There is also this place called Judgement House.

The people who put on these "hell houses" are hypocrites. And, judging from the video, they have other issues as well.
I think what they are trying to accomplish is showing what the world is really like... abortion, suicide school shootings....rape...we all know its there, but to see it in front of you (real, or produced) has a tendency to open peoples eyes wider. this isn't an 'exploration' or for entertainment. They are showing real life, and trying to also show The Way out. trick or treating isn't (for lack of a better term) 'real'.
The Hell House as a whole may indeed serve a broader purpose. I was speaking specifically of the actors involved, who are clearly reveling in their chance to indulge in such "devilish" role-playing.
I maintain that both the actors and the Trick or Treaters are engaging in an exploration of the "dark side," which there is nothing wrong with; in fact, confronting one's fears can have a quite liberating effect on the psyche.

I might add that attempting to underscore the "reality" of abortion, school shootings, rape, and the like is rather moot; we all know that these terrible things happen, and I'm not convinced that amateurish skits help to "open people's eyes wider." Apparently, it's okay for Christian actors on-stage to explore their "dark sides" in a make-believe way, but Trick-or-treaters who want to do the same thing are committing a sin.
The people who put on these "hell houses" are hypocrites. And, judging from the video, they have other issues as well.

I think what they are trying to accomplish is showing what the world is really like... abortion, suicide school shootings....rape...we all know its there, but to see it in front of you (real, or produced) has a tendency to open peoples eyes wider. this isn't an 'exploration' or for entertainment. They are showing real life, and trying to also show The Way out. trick or treating isn't (for lack of a better term) 'real'.

The Hell House as a whole may indeed serve a broader purpose. I was speaking specifically of the actors involved, who are clearly reveling in their chance to indulge in such "devilish" role-playing.
I maintain that both the actors and the Trick or Treaters are engaging in an exploration of the "dark side," which there is nothing wrong with; in fact, confronting one's fears can have a quite liberating effect on the psyche.
You don't think that those Christian actors were having FUN doing it?

I might add that attempting to underscore the "reality" of abortion, school shootings, rape, and the like is rather moot; we all know that these terrible things happen, and I'm not convinced that amateurish skits help to "open people's eyes wider." (In fact, when poorly done, such portrayals make the events at issue seem less significant.)
Besides, even if every person in the world converted to Christianity, there would still be rape, abortion, and murder. There is no "Way out" of reality.

The song is satire, the Hell House itself is not. They've been doing the rounds in America's Evangelical churches for years, and are indeed quite loathsome.
I think this particular performance is by a proper theatre group, with less of a "REPENT HEATHEN!!!!" attitude and more of a "This is what some churches actually do" attitude.

Sorry to which ever branch these hell houses came from (I've certainly never experienced them in Catholicism,) but I sure hope there's an age limit on these things. Psychologically scarring children is not the way to promote the Good Word. I believe God is about love and forgiveness, not vengeance and threats. But in the meantime, let me practice my religion! Why? Cuz I like it and in this country I'm free to do so. This is why I'm American!

That's definitely something to be said for Cathololocism then. I was raised in an extreme fundamentalist Protestant background that promoted this kind of shit- also VERY anti Catholic I'm now a member of a more- accepting- local church. There's no age limit on the hell house that I attended. I had a seizure while I was waiting in line for one and one of the workers told me that it's bc "your soul is damned and God has rejected you."

I know. I saw kids as young as 4 or 5 in line for the Hell House. I'm very glad to know you never encountered it. The other branches of Christianity are much more forgiving than the one I grew up in.

Please pick up a book by Richard Dawkins. We can be "good" without an artificial superpower breathing down our necks and warping our views on ethics.
