  • Jailbait shouldn't have even BEEN in the finale. They should have never gotten past Heaven the Band.....The best competition that year was Catte Adams and Mara Getz in the female vocalist...Could've made a case for either...And the only other decision that was questionable was Barbara Baan beating Micaela...

  • I used to see Jailbait play live at CD's Cafe in Norwalk, CT back in the day. They were a good time, party band and the girls were HOT! I always wondered what happened to them.

  • Yes, they were always a great time at CD's. It's funny to look at all the speculation about Jailbait after all these years but who should have won the final? Let's take a poll.

  • ok does anyone REALLY know why Limited Warranty didnt get huge? try me i just want to see if anyone REALLY knows and who just believes rumors. i know the REAL story...so try me.

  • From what I heard, it was their manager/management. Acting like a big-shot, when your not, will get you nothing among those that REALLY ARE. Was told he rubbed people the wrong way BIG TIME. I guess you could say that's a rumor, but the person who told me got that from one of the LW guys. Don't know which one tho.

You can google the guy & in some cases find where he states LW as "HIS BAND", using it as a promo for himself. LOL

The other reason could be that it wasn't God's plan. ;o)

  • lol. well that is partly true. they got stuck. meaning that they couldnt move on with their careers because of the bind that they were in with record companies and such. it had mostly to do with contract, money, sueings, records, etc. I could elaborate if need be.

out of curiosity...who did you hear it from? who was the person who got it from one of the LW guys?

also which manager are you reffering to?

  • Oooohhh, please elaborate! ;o) But you may wanna do that privately... ya get all kinds on here. lol

  • Jailbait was even without a record contract at the time were the group to have at every major venue in the states. Fact.

  • A fact? Show me. If your gonna be this big of a smartass about something that happened 24-25 years ago, please back it up. Funny, LW put out their OWN record BEFORE Star Search and managed to open for some VERY VERY big names back in the day. Fact.

  • After watching the finals: Jailbait got scre.....

Politics would not let a Jailbait win. Think about it .

  • Please explain. I don't think they got screwed. The song wasn't that great, WAY too cutesy, the girls were too old for that & their name too be honest. LW's song Sensation isn't my fav, but it is much better than Jailbait's. Also while Jailbait aren't bad as singers, the whole "pagent face" poses while singing was VERY wearing and not something you'd see a professional BAND do other than in a video or on Broadway. Only Celine Dion can get away with it cause she has the chops.

  • deos anyone know where I can get or what TV station showing old Star Search episodes, especially 1984, 1985, and 1986 seasons? I would be happy to get the SF and Finals

  • no. i had read in the encyclopedia of tv game shows that he was a finalist in '85 (obviously it wasn't in 85)

  • He might have been a semi-finalist, which would make him one of the finalist. I have the whole shows in which Limited Warranty appear on VHS and have watched them all the way thru, but it's been awhile. The name J.D. Roth sounds familiar to me cause it is probably on one of my tapes from this year.

  • You wouldn't believe the amount of working actors/singers that came out of those specials in the first 3 seasons. They include Tiffany, J.D. Roth, Kristy Swanson, Ami Dolenz, Elisa Fiorillo, Giovanni Ribisi, Lindsay Price, Lara Flynn Boyle, Shanice, Christian Hoff, Julie St. Claire and I'm sure I'm forgetting some names. In the 4th season they began having Junior and Teen vocalists and dancers compete during the regular season but only in those 2 categories. The specials had all the categories.

  • i know who j.d. roth is, that's for sure. (die hard gameshow fan here)

  • It's weird you'd find Star Search in a game show book. It was a talent show. Nobody played a game to win, they just showed off their talent.

  • "star search" itself wasn't in there, BUT there r 3 shows that he hosted that ARE in there, double up, fun house, and masters of the maze.) (and under double up they have a couple extra facts about him including that one.

  • jailbait sucks. landslide for LW.

  • Limited warranty won but went nowhere. Jailbaits re some even without Starsearch was impressive.

They were the group to have anywhere in the country.

    Thats a fact jackass.

  • first off, who are you calling a jackass??? 2nd, I've never seen ANYTHING about Jailbait anywhere else on the net. I don't think Jailbait were bad, that song just wasn't good. They should have focused more on their vocals and LESS on the cutesy routine. Cutesy only worked for Cyndi Lauper cause she was... so unusual, yet so talented. Even Cyndi's music was changing by the time this show was out. Dale & Greg's vocals are very good, they are great singers and the band is just THAT good.

  • for some reason, that doesn't make sense, because i know that christina aguilera was a contestant, and unless i'm mistaken she did win a little bit of cash as a runner-up her week on the show.

  • that's weird, i seem to remember reading somewhere that "fun house" emcee j.d. roth was a finalist in the acting category in 1985.

  • Might have been the '84 or '86 season. If I'm thinking right, the winners for their respective years... say the '85 or '86 winners... were actually chosen in the fall of '84 or '85. There for, the '85 winners were crowed in fall of '84... I think??? Kinda like the Miss America pagent... that years winner is actually chosen the fall before the actual year they reign. ;o)

  • i actually have another question, do u happen to know whether or not j.d. roth ended up winning the grand prize in the acting category when he was on?

  • Is it the same year here? Cause if it isn't, I haven't a clue. lol Just watch till the end of this video and it shows ALL the winners of this year. ;o)

  • This is a bit late but I have answers for you, Wheeloffortunefan999 and booboo900. The first 3 seasons of Star Search didn't have Junior and Teen competitions as part of the regular season. This didn't start until the 4th season. In the 1st season they had a Junior Star Search special (the one Tiffany competed in) and in the 2nd and 3rd season they had Junior/Teen specials. In the 2nd season J.D Roth was the teen actor finalist opposite Kristy Swanson. They lost to Ami Dolenz and some guy.

  • and btw, did the weekly winners in each category win any money?

  • I'm pretty sure they didn't. Just another chance at getting to the finals.

  • They did win money. They explained (in the first 3 seasons) that the returning champion and the challenger each won $1,000 and that week's champion won an additional $1,000. The champion went home with $2,000 every week and the losing challenger went home with $1,000. I don't know how long this went on for but it was definitely the case for the first 3 seasons.

  • Wow, thanks for all the info. ;o) So the guys did get afew bucks before the finals.

  • and i actually knew that barbara bond won the spokesmodel competition, reason being is because an opening of the next season's competition has been posted on soundamerica

  • didn't they have a junior vocalist category??

  • and you kinda had me worried when it cut off after jailbait's performance, i didn't realize that they waited until the end of the show to announce the winners

  • The show was worried about the name Jailbait from the start. They could not win the final.

  • Funny, then why did they make it too the finale????? Why would they let them get that far with such a name... if that's the reason. Oh, and LW had a top 100 hit and top 20 video. Oh and did I mentio the tours with and opening for THE HOTTEST ACTS OF THE 80's??? Do Duran Duran, Tina Turner, Eddie Money, Rick Springfield, Cyndi Lauper... do they ring a bell??? I LOVE LW but I don't think Jailbait were bad at all, just not the right song. LW lost by singing a bad song too. Crap happens.

  • The name was always a problem . They almost did'nt get on. They did finally get on started winning getting ratings letters and lots of fans.

Alas, It was a family show and in the end the name killed them.

For the day they were entertaining at the time they were queens of every major club in NYC.

Regulars at 54 magique, octagon and the Ritz to mention a few. The Calvin klein Crowd.

Shortly after Starsearch they signed to Atlantic Records Came into billboard top forty.Flownto gigs and limo

  • I googled Jailbait. ALOT of junk, but found some members.Says about Abby Lynn, on CDBaby, SHE signed SOLO with Atlantic & had a top 20 on the DANCE charts. Didn't say anything about the band being signed, so I don't know what's goin on there. Both LW & Jailbait seem to have had little success thanks to Star Search. Limos = dime a dozen, kids rent them for prom. Fly in gigs, not a perk, all bands have to repay the record company thru touring. 1st record: all money goes to company. no joke

  • @mscandyo they ,Jailbait did sign with Atlantic. Abby was a Jailbait but not on Starsearch. Infighting and lawyers killed the goose. Typical story..

  • hey, isn't john kassir the guy who used to do the voice of the cryptkeeper?

  • thank you for uploading this!
