I'll ask you guys at expertvillage, would love to get a reply:
In Bruce Lee's "Enter the Dragon" you see O'Hara holding his own board in one hand as he breaks it with the other. This is the iconic scene when Bruce Lee replies "boards don't hit back".
My question is if this is even possible in real life, or just a film trick? I know that few tricks were used in "Enter the Dragon" - even the beer bottles were real because they didn't have break-away glass at that time.
Two things, karate isn't a real martial art, they never win any fights. Second, why are these karate "masters" fat as fuck, something is wrong there...
@georgethemonkey there are over 18 different karate styles and some of them are quite effective not all but alot are and saying its not a real martial art is incredible insulting and ignorant, and alot of masters 5th degree's and higher tend to be a bit rounded however i do agree about these guys
ugh stupid guy shaolin monks taught me to condition my hands with newspaper take a bunch of newspaper pile it until it gets as fat as a phonebook (or just use a phone book) and hang it on a wall and punch for 1-2 hours a day
For fingers, the ninja would hit them into the ground, then when he was able to do that good, he would fill it with sand, then clay, then rocks. this takes about 5 years to master.
I'm not an athlet but, seriously, DO SOME CARDIO, 20MIN A DAY AT LEAST. you think you will win ONE SINGLE real fight with that weight holding you on your position????????
I think conditioning is good, even if it's just a little bit of conditioning.
Imagine if some attacks you, you punch them and your hand breaks. It's not a good idea to have a broken hand when someone is attacking you. Its just like a soldier's gun breaking as they go to shoot. Or a chef goes to turn on the oven and it doesn't work. Your tools need to work.
hmmm... these guys know how to condition your hands, and on the part about diffrent conditioning your fists for board breaking, only thing i did besides punch walls was mostly do push-ups on my knuckles. trust me. you do that for about a month, and punch a board and you won't even feel it.
but i did knuckle push ups since i was a white belt and didnt have to break a board until my green belt test, so to each his own, i guess.
These guys are true warriors! They don't live in basements or eat Twinkies or anything. They certainly don't play World of Warcraft or have interests in anime, and they definitely have hot, real-life girlfriends. They can win in a fight with just about anybody because of their excellent cardio conditioning and outstanding physical fitness.
Whats wrong with WoW i play and i study martial arts,I play like maybe 30 mins every 2 or 3 days though lol, cause im so busy with martial arts and other sports. btw these guys are cool
if you have ftw in your name i'm 99% sure you're lying about the wow thing, unless you mean you don't play wow because you're playing some other game like spore or whatever you damn kids do
Some of you people need to shut the hell up. Sure these guys may be fat but they can kick your ass. I kno a kid thats 16 and weights 180 and like %20 body fat that can do a blackflip kick it doesnt matter how big you are
well im 165 lbs, at about 5% body fat and i have never taken a karate class in my life. however i compete in boxing, wrestling, and weight lifting. i am also a vetran, and i bet i could kick the crap out of tubby any day of the week.
I have been a practitioner of Taekwon Do for ten years, I train kickboxers. It is a different training style. In boxing, you train to take a hit. In martial arts you train to not get hit, but hit the other guy. Weight lifting? Strength has nothing to do with fighting superiority. Power in fighting is speed+technique+accuracy. The average real life fight lasts for less than 20 seconds, physical conditioning really does not have much to do with fighting, it is how you fight that matters.
apparently someone is jealous and/or nastily fat and cant seem to get over themselves. proof? look no further than my vid, im the redhead. get a life and find a treadmill.
the force required to break a board is about the same required to break a human rib. I weigh 149 pounds and have 6%body fat and am a 2005 state champion in the mens advanced blackbelt devision. Don't let the fat trick you, some of my toughest fights came from people who look big. It doesn't matter how big you are, but how much muscle you have underneath the flab. I bet you two guys wouldn't tell either one of these martial artists to their faces what you just wrote them
i completely agree my sensei is a short fat little thing and boy oh boy i had a suprise landing my fist on his gut HE IS BUILT LIKE A BRICK SHIT HOUSE!! just cos there fat dont mean there unfit!
and i think its the same with skinny or in my case exomorphic (i think thats right) were not weak just thin look at bruce lee he was no arnold schwarzeneggar but he was bloody strong!
I can tell they are both in top physical Condition, They must have excellent cardio to look like that, I bet they can last real long in a fight, Especially the Yellow belt, Damn He looks like about 400 pounds of solid Muscle Mass..BAHAHAHAHAHA..:-X Sorry I couldn't hold it anymore
Nice tip, I'm trying to condition my hands to do finger breaking eventually.

@Allanl3e It's a classic way to break boards. (with your fingers)
You have to condition your fingers first obviously.
