I talked to a guy the other day that said he unloaded that car off of the train when new in '69. He said it was the fastest car he ever unloaded, which says a lot considering he unloaded HEMI cars too. Wish it was still a 4spd though.
If the car was still in serious races, still making history, the auto would be fine. But the car is busted out only for nostalgic reasons. So, it should be kept original. But, you know what opinions are like! I guess this fellow is just having a good time with a ONE AND ONLY car! At least it's still being run! Pretty damn cool when you think about it, actually. Now let's see the Grant Rebel funny car back in action!
The thing is still pretty bad ass. It used to be in the shop of a fire sprinkler company I worked for a few years ago in Elkton, Md. The guy that owned the company loved the AMX. Apparently this car is worth some serious jing.
WOW...such harsh comments from guys who have never seen the car in person...I have and trust me the automatic thing was just a test...this car is top notch top to bottom
You take a once historic car, take out the 4-speed and put in an automatic. What do you have now? Basically a clone that's boring to watch. Search YouTube for "197 AMX" if you want to see a fun AMX!
I know that guy

Are you sure you don't mean the paint is ugly? I have never heard anyone say an AMX is an ugly car.
For a better look at an AMX YouTube search > 1968 AMC AMX Burnout

Kearney, Nebraska. The car was based there and did really well in the late 60s/early 70s.

If it was born a 4-speed, it should stay a 4-speed. Still awesome, though.
