therse is a super dope hip hop song where "i'm living in a kind of daydream" is sampled it was so long a go but so dope i remember it like yesterday. if some body knows let me know to! Trees Embrace the breeze with ease
Mathis is a great singer but I don't like the way he lingers on words and spreads out the phrases in this version; especially at the end. And I don't like the echo effect. Get out of the bathroom, Johnny!
The Sweetheart Tree is a wonderful album. I inherited the vinyl after my grandmother died, and everytime i listen to it i have to play this song over and over. Love you grandma.
"Somewhat tarnished my image of him." "I still love his voice though." I thought we'd come far beyond this sort of thinking by now. And no, you can't generalize by saying gay singers are the best. person's sexual orientation has nothing to do with anything at all, not his or her art or work or writing or manual labor or anything. It is no more significant than hair color. Of course, once anyone mentions his or her own gayness, conversation stops. Sad. Let's get over it, folks.
One of the greatest voices ever of course. I don't blame you for trying to legitimize homosexuality. I suppose I would too, although it is no more legitimate than any other deviation. It is simply becoming the politically favored deviation. No more significant than hair color? I think otherwise.
What an incredibly beautiful voice Johnny Mathis has. He makes singing seem so effortless. A unique rendition of a marvellous song. Thanks so much for posting the vid. Very much appreciated.
@landrykkb I didn't know this myself until A few years ago, I still love his voice though, I always have loved Misty and Chances Are, PLUS his Christmas Album.
Johnny always adds his own perspective, during the interpretation of his songs, it's as if it were written for him to us...no matter what generation...It transcends time, and history...Music, Photography, Films are all part of THE TIME MACHINE....Peace, love a hug and a smile...VIVA MARIA!
@joevet66- I think Tony Bennett is great but you can't compare those two, besides they are both good in their own right, if i could say that anyone sings it better it would only be Nat King Cole.
Oh thank you for posting these old precious songs....they don't make them like this......the very thought of you......so tender and noone sings like Johnny...love the man. Seen him many times always the same, professional..exceptional, and delightful to hear.......thanks again
@joyou are totally wrong and maybe its because you have not heard the BILLY ECKSTINE version of this. try getting it on U-tube. you will be in heaven. HONEYevet66
This is one of my all-time favorite romantic ballads. And the extremely talented Johnny Mathis does his usual BEAUTIFUL job here! What an exquisite voice the man has! Wonderful version....a million thanks for posting it for us to enjoy! :)
i remember playing this song over and over when i was away from the love of my life.....its a reminder of no matter how long it takes..its a bitter sweet song
In the mid '60's I was at the drive in movie with my girlfriend Donna in my '57 Chevy Bel Air 2dr door coupe when during the intermission, this song played over the wired speaker that hangs on the car window. We were making out when suddenly she gently unzipped my Levi's and gave me my first blow job. I'll tell you that I came like a bucket full of silver dollars on ice!!! I'll never ever forget that special moment... it sure felt good; damn good... absolutely the best BJ I've ever had, Bogart
@cybernautev I wish they would reissue his old albums into CD's. When I was in the Philippines, I bought a cassette tape of Johnny singing theme songs from the movies like Do You Know Where You're Going To, Brian's Song? Does anyone have this as a download? I wanted to celebrate Father's Day by playing this in memory of my father who was a number 1 Johnny Mathis fan.
@cybernautev I don't believe you're correct with the album titles. This was originally on the Heavenly album. It may have been reproduced on future albums but I don't believe it's on The Sweetheart Tree of ID albums.
What a wonderful old song, with words and music written in 1934 by Ray Nobel. It's been sung by many well know singers including the great Billie Holiday. I tried to upload her singing it but the UMG group claimed audio ownership so I had to take it down. Seems buying an audio mp3 of a song only allows us to listen to it not upload it to youtube unless UMG gives permission. Johnny does make this song his own and gives us a fine interpretation here.
two of my favorite versions, besides Johnny's , are Tony Bennett's and raspy voiced Rod Stewart's. The list goes on and on because as you said, this song is wonderful. it is timeless and it is universal. you still got it and thanks for the info about Ray Nobel ( any relation to alfred Nobel?)
I agree. I don't know what it is about this particular song, but as haitiano73 says, "he made it his own" and it's got the most sincere, sentimental, and longing emotion I've ever heard it sung.
