here in ottawa fire arm incidents are common. canada has had several fatal massacres in the last 40 years. i was caught in one, luckily it was mainly a gang fight going on so they were mainly shooting at each other and not at random pedestrians. though 2 did suffer gun wounds and 3 gang members were injured including one who was fatal. i thought it was people throwing fireworks around the corner until pedestrians started running around the corner towards me.
I'm sorry, but if you were 2 watch a wildlife programe about the survival of the strongest, & some dumb, but curious, penguin wobbled into the firing line of a sealion, you'd think "silly penguin got what it deserved." This is just nature's way of making space for people who have the sense 2 survive. Any1 who mistakes a fucking gunshot for scafolding being dropped is a silly penguin.
"HE looked braindead?" She's the one who mistook fucking gunshots for scafolding being dropped. - I'd like to see how these 2 would hold up in Afganistan. "I'd told me Mom I'd been shot & she says don't be stupid, I said it was too late for that, we'd just sat-nav'd ourselves toward a gun yielding socio-path."
@hellbadger84 Because you wouldn't expect to hear gunshots in a quiet residential area where nothing ever happens.. You tend to hear what you EXPECT to hear. Of course, in Afghanistan it would be different. You'd expect to hear gunfire and so you would hear it.
@mahler71 the line, "curiosity killed the cat", has stuck cus it often prooves true. If, like most women, they ignore this advice cus they can't resist being nosey, then it's hard 2feel sympathy. Times I've found myself in danger, was partly misfortune combined with ignorance. That's why education is premoted, so we can be aware/mindfull. If people fail to educate themselves, then they're at risk. Although unfortunate, this is another case of nature punishing the unintuative enquisitives.
more guns = more murders. Or did you think that most of the 50,000 and more murders in America every year were caused by people slinging cabbages at each other? School shootings and workers going postal is so common in America now, that it barely qualifies as news any more. If this is what you want in the UK, then by all means argue that joe public needs more access to weapons, but don't hide behind this 'I've done more research than you' bollocks. So what. It's not a complex equation.
@klinepatsy I agree its not a complex equation. When criminals are handed a disarmed population they take advantage. Does anyone really expect something different?
If your happy to hide behind emotional rhetoric, then i'll 'hide' behind evidence. Thanks for the advice though.
@brucerobert you are a paranoid schitzo, oo the government is after us! oo oo! Is a big hedgehog named Spiny Norman also chasing you, Dinsdale? You're a conspiracy gun nut, mental defective.
@KingofStarfox I may be 'mental defective' but I am not stupid enough to believe that being forcibly disarmed makes me safer.
Spiny Norman, Dinsdale! I would of hoped that a fan of Monty Python would of been a little more open minded and less offensive when addressing a perfect stranger. Oh well, take care.
Peter Sutcliffe (Yorkshire ripper) killed 13 women with a ball hammer, how many ball hammer bans does the UK have at the moment? NONE. And how many people are killed and brutally injured with Ball hammers per year? More than fire arms ;- )
More guns for everyone? Only on youtube do you get such idiotic fucking lunatic comments from braindead numbskulls who believe the government revels in keeping everyone unarmed and vulnerable....More guns=more murders. So everyone should be allowed to carry a weapon? that's a concession to paranoia, and all it does is escalate paranoia and create an even greater climate of fear. Gun crime is only common in the media. Not in everyday life.
@klinepatsy More guns equal more murders, Really? Please send me the research that supports this hypothesis. All the research I have seen concludes that murder rates stay the same or go down when law abiding people have access to guns.
This is life and death, perhaps you could do some reading before you start commenting. Just a thought.
Also, read a history book, around 200m people were killed by there own governments in the 20th century. I would have preferred they were not defenceless.
I assume you are an intelligent person, so please don't tell me you are one of these conspiracists who believes that governments kill their own people?
@darkshadower790 Handgun ban equaled increased gun crime. Whatever the country, murder rates go up after gun controls laws/bans. Every massacre in the US or Europe has been in an area where people were forbidden from having firearms for defending themselves.
Look at the news today and tell me Mexico's gun ban has been a success.
@klinepatsy hurray! The reason so many gun nuts are on here, spamming and trolling about guns all day is because people who like guns are not smart enough to get and keep jobs, hence they have a lot of time on their hands. Good to see a 'real' person commenting here, not an inbred, mentally defective wanker.
Well since your being polite, any website that isn't Wikipedia, yet has decent information on gun laws, gun massacre histories, etc etc. Also, you don't have to search too far on Youtube to find footage of American gun massacres. Look in Britain, there has been 3 big shootings in the past 40 years or so. How many has there been in countries with less restricted gun laws?
@brucerobert yes, if you own a gun the person you are statistically most likely to shoot is yourself and second is a person living with you, people get depressed and angry and guns don't help. I also feel safer disarmed because I live in a community where almost nobody owns a weapon. My right to own a gun is by far outweighed by my neighbours right not to live next-door to a guy with a gun.
Do you think an armed population is a good thing?
@TheCaptainLulz The car has been gutted by bullets, her and her daughter have been badly wounded and you want her to try to run down Ryan in her small Volvo 360, when he could easily step out of the way and kill them both? I think in that situation, with or without our children in the car, we'd both put the car in reverse and get the fuck out of there.
@TheCaptainLulz Yeah but it's a natural tendency you want to get away from danger. The closer you get to the threat the more likely you are to get shot. Distance is your friend.
@TheCaptainLulz you have to realise that the mum was more or less shot in the face with an AK-47 so you can't blame her for wanting to get out of that situation as quick as possible!
@TheCaptainLulz Come off it. She didn't have long to react. It's either save her family or risk being killed. He could have moved out of the way and shot her with a different weapon. Your first instinct is to save yourself, usually through escape or evasion. The only person who could have saved "a bunch of people" is that feeble-minded twat who summarily executed people.
@TalentSpotter83 You are an idiot, would you rather be a subject of the government, or a free citizen, you think the holocaust would have been as bad if hitler didnt bring in gun control first? enjoy being disarmed and helpless
@02dartda you only like guns because your penis is tiny. Any man who likes guns has a 2 inch cock. Real men don't need guns. Only substandard shits like you do.
@KingofStarfox Hahaha fucking idiot, I use guns for target shooting and clay shooting, its a sport just like kicking a ball around a field, should tell the army they dont need guns, tell them to fight the taliban armed with rocket launchers with their fists because thats how a man with a big penis does it! Reply back when you've grown a fucking brain
@TheCaptainLulz i thought that would be the reaction by anyone lol put your foot down and lean down below the steering wheel. at most you hit a tree but at least you severly hurt the guy
@TheCaptainLulz How where they to know he was gonna shoot a shitload of others? They just wanted to get out of his way and not get closer and closer to him.
If those people had been allowed to own guns themselves, then they would have had the ability to stop him.But due to stupid laws here no one had a weapon to fight back with, after this event the silly twats in government made it HARDER for law abiding citizens to buy and own weapons, then after Dunblane they did it again and banned handguns, utter fucking madness, now gun crime is up 80% since '97 and we have more firearm incidents in the UK than the US!! fucking stupid, they've banned toy guns now!
@silver760 Don't talk rubbish! Michael Ryan was a 'law abiding citizen' before this massacre. Was he not ? We don't need more guns on the street you idiot!
@eezy1972 So you enjoy being completely defenceless? You agree that only the state, criminals and the insane should only have access firearms? The utter stupidity of this country where it is illegal to defend yourself and your property by any means just propagates crime, there is no deterrent. The police are usually 15 minutes away, longer if you live in the country and that's if they turn up at all! Being flooded with lawless immigrants doesnt help matters either.
@silver760 So the entire population is now armed. Don't you think that any altercation would now possibly end up in death? You now bring your own unfounded rascist views to the table. All immigrants are armed that enter our country? I would like an intelligent debate with you but you are clearly blinkered and rascist.
@silver760 good point silver760. they should have let the five-year-olds at Dunblane school have handguns then they could have shot the bastard. Alternatively, they could have banned all guns so the fucking weirdos that think it's good fun to shoot things at "gun clubs" can get the mental health care they obviously need.
@silver760 The implication of your statement is that an increased presence of firearms within society would make us safer. Where in the U.S, this patently is not the case as an abundance of firearms within the U.S has not prevent incidents such as the this one from occurring. You must be ingesting some very potent recreational drug if you think the UK has a higher number of gun-related deaths than the US. In fact, it seems that overall gun crime is reducing in the UK.
@TalentSpotter83 Someone is less likely to attack/shoot/rob etc you if there is a possibility that you may be armed.Allowing the populace to own firearms acts as a detterent, even for those that do not want to own firearms, the person who may commit a crime has to weigh up the risks,if their life may be put at risk by a possibly armed victim, they are far less likely to commit the crime.Since the US has allowed concealed carrying recently violent crime has dropped greatly in number.
@silver760 Hardly, there's the matter of escalation. If someone you know carries a gun. The probability is you'll acquire a better weapon. If someone has a pistol, you'd in all likelihead try and find a weapon such as an uzi or whatever it is. By virtue of what you say, if owning a firearm was such a deterrent then there wouldn't be such a high number of gun-related deaths in the U.S. Making guns more readily accessible only exacerbates the situation. It's common sense.
@TalentSpotter83 men who like guns tend not to have common sense, nor rudimentary intelligence. Perhaps a generalization, but one, in my experience, which bears serious consideration as being true.
@silver760 Furthermore, by restricting guns to the populace you make it much harder to obtain guns. In turn if those that want them have to smuggle them in to the country then it shows the law has worked in that regard. No one is protesing about this issue so it's clear Britain doesn't want guns everywhere. If you don't like it, move to the U.S and indulge in your gun fetish. Last of all, the government hasn't proposed changes to the law either.
@TalentSpotter83 UK legal gun ownership was at its highest in the 80's and we had 400 gun related deaths per year, now in 2010 with practically everything banned and gun ownership down by 30% we have over 2000 gun related deaths per year.I would rather have the ability to protect myself and my property rather than relying on a heavily overstretched police force.Washington recently had to revoke their pistol ban,gun crime actually went DOWN by +50% overnight.Gun ownership acts as a deterrent.
@silver760 Frankly your statistics are incredibly inaccurate and ridiculous. 2000 gun-related deaths per year? The number of gun-crime offences peaked around 2005/06 and have fallen since. Indeed, gun-crime has fallen 17/18% in the 2008/09 period in comparison to the 2007/08 period. The number of gun-related murders numbered 59 in the 2006/07. In 2007/08 they numbered 53 fatalities and in 2008/09 they numbered 38.
@silver760 Where the hell do you get your facts from, when I last looked on Officers Down memorial page 100 U.S officers are killed every year, most by gun fire!! Just Imagine how many people are shot dead in Los Angeles gang capital of the world!!! let alone the entire U.S!!!!!!!!!!!!
@brucerobert but because the right to live on a street where nobody owns guns. This almost never happens, the in the US where there is almost no gun control they have much more gun crime. Because we hardly have any guns here the police don't even carry them and I think that's a good thing given how rare events like this really are.
@nbarrett100 I cant make out what your trying to say but one thing is pretty clear: "No gun control in America"? Really? What State are you talking about? Perhaps its a County within a State? Please enlighten me.
Let me take a wild stab in the dark and say you have done absolutely no research on this subject.
@nbarrett100 Generally speaking their laws and culture are currently very different to ours, that is generally true. The key point you are probably not aware of though is that the areas of the US with strict controls are always more violent than areas with permissive laws. Counter intuitive to our European mindset but true.
Do I think an armed population is a good thing? Sorry to reply to a question with question, but, do you think being disarmed makes you safer?
@brucerobert yes, if you own a gun the person you are statistically most likely to shoot is yourself and second is a person living with you, people get depressed and angry and guns don't help. I also feel safer disarmed because I live in a community where almost nobody owns a weapon. My right to own a gun is by far outweighed by my neighbours right not to live next-door to a guy with a gun.

Do you think an armed population is a good thing?
@MsPregis Hilarious. I weep for your lack originality.
“I do not love the bright sword for it's sharpness, nor the arrow for it's swiftness, nor the warrior for his glory. I love only that which they defend”
“Many that live deserve death and some that die deserve life. Can you give it to them? Do not be too eager to deal out death in judgement. For even the very wise cannot see all ends.”
@brucerobert Because they're tasked to protect us, which is part of the reason why you pay taxes. I much rather trust a trianed professional who will shoot to kill (and usually not miss) than some idiot with an itch to use his guns and end up killing himself and others. If you follow your logic more deeply then we may as well not have an armed forces and simply defend ourselves with whatever we have. Utterly priceless.
@TalentSpotter83 My logic would lead us to disarming the police and army? No, I think that is the logic of the disarmament brigade. I, unlike most people actually recognise the value that firearms can offer in perilous situations.
I also realise that the police can not be everywhere at once. Call me weird but I would of preffered for the gunman in Cumbria to of been stopped before he killed 12 people. You carry on believing that the police can protect you though.
@brucerobert The Cumbria shooting is a perfect example of why it would be wise to allow law abiding citizens to own firearms for personal protection.Cumbria being mostly countryside immediately showed up the polices shortcomings in that their were only a few dispersed over a vast area.If only one other person was armed the situation could have ended long before it did.To completely disarm the public and only allow the law to use weapons for defence reeks of dictatorship,we are defenceless by law
@brucerobert "Why are we so happy to rely on the state to protect us?"
We do so already when it comes to defence.Which is the point I made.
"I recognise the value that firearms can offer in perilous situations."
Right. I would place my faith far more in the hands of paid professionals who are highly-trained marksmen than some one who owns a firearm for the occasional situation that they would feel compelled to use them. It's a good thing this sort of incident isn't common in Cumbria or UK
@brucerobert Someone here who speaks sense.I cannot see any reason why law abiding citizens should not be allowed to protect themselves and their property.Criminals in the UK are laughing,by law none of their victims are allowed to fight back or own a means of defending their property. The police force is so small and so over tasked its useless,80% of them are unarmed. The armed criminals certainly have the upper hand here.
you wouldnt do that unless you were in the special forces or something like that were you had been trained to react and think fast in those situations
it was the Princess Margarets Hospital in Swindon and not Windsor as stated in the documentary.
many thanks for posting this , I had not seen it before , it was a well put together documentary and had information I was unaware of for the last 21 years and brought back some tearful memories ,

"I'd told me Mom I'd been shot & she says don't be stupid, I said it was too late for that, we'd just sat-nav'd ourselves toward a gun yielding socio-path."
hellbadger84 1 year ago

So what. It's not a complex equation.
klinepatsy 1 year ago
@klinepatsy I agree its not a complex equation. When criminals are handed a disarmed population they take advantage. Does anyone really expect something different?

More guns for everyone? Only on youtube do you get such idiotic fucking lunatic comments from braindead numbskulls who believe the government revels in keeping everyone unarmed and vulnerable....More guns=more murders. So everyone should be allowed to carry a weapon? that's a concession to paranoia, and all it does is escalate paranoia and create an even greater climate of fear. Gun crime is only common in the media. Not in everyday life.
klinepatsy 1 year ago
@klinepatsy More guns equal more murders, Really? Please send me the research that supports this hypothesis. All the research I have seen concludes that murder rates stay the same or go down when law abiding people have access to guns.
This is life and death, perhaps you could do some reading before you start commenting. Just a thought.
Also, read a history book, around 200m people were killed by there own governments in the 20th century. I would have preferred they were not defenceless.

Dunblane Massacre = Hangun Bans.
How many hangun massacres have we had since then?
I assume you are an intelligent person, so please don't tell me you are one of these conspiracists who believes that governments kill their own people?
darkshadower790 1 year ago
@darkshadower790 Handgun ban equaled increased gun crime. Whatever the country, murder rates go up after gun controls laws/bans. Every massacre in the US or Europe has been in an area where people were forbidden from having firearms for defending themselves.
Look at the news today and tell me Mexico's gun ban has been a success.
brucerobert 1 year ago
@klinepatsy hurray! The reason so many gun nuts are on here, spamming and trolling about guns all day is because people who like guns are not smart enough to get and keep jobs, hence they have a lot of time on their hands. Good to see a 'real' person commenting here, not an inbred, mentally defective wanker.
KingofStarfox 1 year ago
I can't believe people are saying everyone should have guns! Are you serious? UK very very rarely has these massacres BECAUSE of these gun laws.
Look at America, Finland etc, at least one or two of these each year.
UK would be exactly the same if everyone had guns

Well since your being polite, any website that isn't Wikipedia, yet has decent information on gun laws, gun massacre histories, etc etc. Also, you don't have to search too far on Youtube to find footage of American gun massacres. Being flooded with lawless immigrants doesnt help matters either.
silver760 1 year ago
@silver760 So the entire population is now armed. Don't you think that any altercation would now possibly end up in death? You now bring your own unfounded rascist views to the table.
MsPregis 1 year ago
@silver760 The implication of your statement is that an increased presence of firearms within society would make us safer. Where in the U.S, this patently is not the case as an abundance of firearms within the U.S has not prevent incidents such as the this one from occurring. You must be ingesting some very potent recreational drug if you think the UK has a higher number of gun-related deaths than the US. In fact, it seems that overall gun crime is reducing in the UK.
TalentSpotter83 1 year ago
@TalentSpotter83 Someone is less likely to attack/shoot/rob etc you if there is a possibility that you may be armed.Allowing the populace to own firearms acts as a detterent, even for those that do not want to own firearms, the person who may commit a crime has to weigh up the risks,if their life may be put at risk by a possibly armed victim, they are far less likely to commit the crime.Since the US has allowed concealed carrying recently violent crime has dropped greatly in number.
silver760 1 year ago
@silver760 Hardly, there's the matter of escalation. If someone you know carries a gun. The probability is you'll acquire a better weapon. If someone has a pistol, you'd in all likelihead try and find a weapon such as an uzi or whatever it is. By virtue of what you say, if owning a firearm was such a deterrent then there wouldn't be such a high number of gun-related deaths in the U.S. Making guns more readily accessible only exacerbates the situation. It's common sense.
TalentSpotter83 1 year ago
@TalentSpotter83 men who like guns tend not to have common sense, nor rudimentary intelligence. Perhaps a generalization, but one, in my experience, which bears serious consideration as being true.
KingofStarfox 1 year ago
@silver760 Furthermore, by restricting guns to the populace you make it much harder to obtain guns. In turn if those that want them have to smuggle them in to the country then it shows the law has worked in that regard. No one is protesing about this issue so it's clear Britain doesn't want guns everywhere. If you don't like it, move to the U.S and indulge in your gun fetish. Last of all, the government hasn't proposed changes to the law either.
TalentSpotter83 1 year ago
@TalentSpotter83 Is this directed at me?
brucerobert 1 year ago
@TalentSpotter83 UK legal gun ownership was at its highest in the 80's and we had 400 gun related deaths per year, now in 2010 with practically everything banned and gun ownership down by 30% we have over 2000 gun related deaths per year.I would rather have the ability to protect myself and my property rather than relying on a heavily overstretched police force.Washington recently had to revoke their pistol ban,gun crime actually went DOWN by +50% overnight.Gun ownership acts as a deterrent.
silver760 1 year ago
@silver760 Frankly your statistics are incredibly inaccurate and ridiculous. 2000 gun-related deaths per year? The number of gun-crime offences peaked around 2005/06 and have fallen since. Indeed, gun-crime has fallen 17/18% in the 2008/09 period in comparison to the 2007/08 period. The number of gun-related murders numbered 59 in the 2006/07. In 2007/08 they numbered 53 fatalities and in 2008/09 they numbered 38.

@brucerobert but because the right to live on a street where nobody owns guns. This almost never happens, the in the US where there is almost no gun control they have much more gun crime. Because we hardly have any guns here the police don't even carry them and I think that's a good thing given how rare events like this really are.

@nbarrett100 Generally speaking their laws and culture are currently very different to ours, that is generally true. I much rather trust a trianed professional who will shoot to kill (and usually not miss) than some idiot with an itch to use his guns and end up killing himself and others. If you follow your logic more deeply then we may as well not have an armed forces and simply defend ourselves with whatever we have. Utterly priceless.
TalentSpotter83 1 year ago
@TalentSpotter83 My logic would lead us to disarming the police and army? No, I think that is the logic of the disarmament brigade. I, unlike most people actually recognise the value that firearms can offer in perilous situations.
I also realise that the police can not be everywhere at once. Call me weird but I would of preffered for the gunman in Cumbria to of been stopped before he killed 12 people. You carry on believing that the police can protect you though.
brucerobert 1 year ago
@brucerobert The Cumbria shooting is a perfect example of why it would be wise to allow law abiding citizens to own firearms for personal protection.Cumbria being mostly countryside immediately showed up the polices shortcomings in that their were only a few dispersed over a vast area.If only one other person was armed the situation could have ended long before it did.To completely disarm the public and only allow the law to use weapons for defence reeks of dictatorship,we are defenceless by law
silver760 1 year ago
@brucerobert "Why are we so happy to rely on the state to protect us?"
We do so already when it comes to defence.Which is the point I made.
"I recognise the value that firearms can offer in perilous situations."
Right. I would place my faith far more in the hands of paid professionals who are highly-trained marksmen than some one who owns a firearm for the occasional situation that they would feel compelled to use them. It's a good thing this sort of incident isn't common in Cumbria or UK
TalentSpotter83 1 year ago
@TalentSpotter83 Thanks for clarifying but what you say is not grounded in good sense or reality.
However, lets assume they are all superbly talented marksmen, what good is it when they take so long to arrive?
Ps. I think you would be surprised just how few rounds our 'highly trained' firearms officers shoot during training in any given year.
brucerobert 1 year ago
@brucerobert Someone here who speaks sense.I cannot see any reason why law abiding citizens should not be allowed to protect themselves and their property.Criminals in the UK are laughing,by law none of their victims are allowed to fight back or own a means of defending their property. The police force is so small and so over tasked its useless,80% of them are unarmed. The armed criminals certainly have the upper hand here.
