I like to use Ubuntu to crack WEP keys. People bash Windows users who use just about the same programs that linux users use to crack WEP keys. I found that Airowizard was good for crack WEP keys and at times faster at cracking WEP keys then on Linux. but Airowizard is shut down so meh.

backtrack is a unix-based operating system. Like Windows vista, xp, etc...you can either boot it from a disk or run it natively. Basically it contains all the tools necessary to perform offensive security attacks. Only to be used for testing network security though ;)

your most likely using WINDOWS, Vista or XP.

if your using windows like i am, and you want Linux, Backtrack OS on your machine, then download VMWare Player (this program lets you run and use different operating systems on your Windows Machine) its brilliant =)

To find out witch card you shall use write: airmon-ng

Then a list of cards shall pop up!

Defiantly. A few years back I was a big fan of PHLAK before it basically died, I still have the Fat Man version of it even though I don't really use it anymore. Backtrack is like a seriously updated version and it has so many tools! I don't think it has quite as many as PHLAK but I'm sure it probably does.

My last CD image burned wrong so I have to do that again. I still love watching videos of it. But would like to see some variation, maybe a demo of some other tools it has wouldBeNice

Sorry, but does anyone else see that this is not 128bit it is only 64bit. The key is only 10 digits long. Also you don't use de-authentication for WEP attacks, only in WPA when youre trying to grab the 4way handshake. This video shows you doing an arpreplay attack! Is this video trying to mess with all of the Newbies?? And why would you only use what you got in capture-2 and not capture*.cap when running the crack? Give me a thumbs up if you known enough to agree with me.. .

Sorry about that, your right...it is 64bit...I've updated the info section on the video....I did use a deauthentication attack though...you don't only have to use it to crack WPA. And i used Capture-2 b/c capture-1 was incomplete due to the fact that it was the practice file that I used when i did a preliminary run of the Cracking session. Take care.

I havean ALFA Network USB Wlan Card, and i cracked a 128bit network with spoonwep (located on the backtrack 3 cd) in less than 3 minutes. that was my personal record. its so easy, only start kismet before, look for wep secured networks, open spoonwep, type in the mac of the network and the channel, press play and lay back ;)

the WG311v3 uses a Marvell Chipset, so it won't work.

The WG311v2 uses a TI chipest, so according to their site, it works for airodump.

For aireplay, it says:

YES (driver patching required) Possibly No fragmentation attack support.

However, from what I remember the backtrack 3 disk includes this driver.

Also, the aircrack-ng suite is also available for windows, but compatibility is MUCH lower.

If your not getting a lot of bandwidth on the wireless network, the ARP request help generate more packets, and in turn, speed up the IVs that you use to crack the WEP encryption.
