The Tragically Hip is splendid. In my opinion, they are one of the finest bands of all time. They make me wish I was born on the other side of the Ambassador Bridge.
Seen em live in Grand Prairie. Wikid show. But Albertans trip me out. Why the fuck is the pisser a popular hangout? Everytime I had to go the shitter it was packed full, not of people pissing,l but standing around BS'ing. DURING the show, wtf.
@insertclevernickname grand prarie!! Great Scott!! thats as bad as brandon or medicine hat, not to mention perhaps rocky mountain house or red deer.. nelson B.C. fit the bill too, lots of funny eggs out west.....
@wildwindsca Agree withed ya up until Nelson, that place is great. Good bud, post card scenery and laid back people. The whole Kootneys is, pretty much my idea of heaven (other than winter, bloody alpine cold) Spent a few years in Nakusp and Edgewood, fairly close.
@timothyevanrichard its actually a "guitar harmonic", where he lightly taps the string just as he plucks it to create a very high pitched sound that is a pure note that corresponds to where he hits it on the fret board. no special petal needed
@Hannah191991 - Check out "Road Apples" from 1991 and it's successor "Fully Completely" from 1992 for some of their best work ... not to say that their other stuff isn't as good but these give a good reference point as to their evolution. They first hit it big in Canada with 1989/90 with the album "Up To Here" and quickly built a reputation from energetic live performances with a charismatic lead singer who was kinda 'out there' !
10geegee10-yep, nostalgic would describe a lot of The Hip's music perfectly. No doubt. All the time with that killer rockin' beat goin' on. Love 'em! Better than The Beatles or The Rolling Stones.
If you need a pish on the bus, or in the car, this is a great song to get your mind off it until you can make it to the toilet - just shake yer head around and get into the rhythm!!!! GREAT SONG!
That is no doubt Gordon's teenage daughter in this video. If I'm wrong I'll be forced to listen to Kelly Clarkson CD's non-stop for 12 hours. At a distinctly high volume.
That's interesting that it makes you feel both old and sad for some reason. The Tragically Hip is one of those great bands that can evoke different feelings and emotions. They're a blues-based band that has the talent to do things like that. Love 'em!

does anybody know what that sound effect is at the beginning of the song?
timothyevanrichard 1 year ago
@timothyevanrichard that is just a guitar but you need the right kind of petal/ synthesizer attached .

@rentamonkey I don't know, it sounds really processed. I bet he's a got just a little bit of delay or chorus effect to get that sound.
